Paige Summers and Sheldon Reid had been wandering this massive underground cavern for two full days, but they still hadn’t found an exit and were on the verge of despair.

The only progress was that Sheldon Reid’s injuries had improved, and he was now able to use a little of his strength.

After thinking it over, Paige Summers had no choice but to say, "Let’s go back to the crevice and try to figure something out."

Although she didn’t want to reveal her storage space, under the circumstances, if she didn’t craft some tools, there was no way she could climb up herself while also carrying Sheldon Reid.

Of course, even with tools, it wasn’t a guaranteed success. The physical exertion required would be immense. All they could do was try.

Sheldon Reid, however, shook his head.

Whether they could climb out of the crevice was a secondary concern. The key issue was the high probability of an ambush waiting for them up top.

Gryphon Lowell of Norgate... judging from this incident, the man was even more cunning than the intelligence reports had described. A person like that was typically highly suspicious. He would definitely have his men watch the crevice for a while, at least until he was certain they weren’t coming out that way.

Going up now would be walking right into a trap.

The only way to rendezvous with their own people was to find another way out.

But two days had passed, and they’d made no progress at all...

In one of the caves, an exhausted Sheldon Reid leaned against the wall. "Let me think a little more."

Paige Summers glanced at him but said nothing.

After resting for a moment, she got up and began to carefully inspect the area around the cave entrance.

They had now reached the deepest part of the cavern system. They had hoped to find a clue to an exit, but after wandering around, they found themselves surrounded by earthen walls, with no leads whatsoever.

’Is it possible there really isn’t another way out?’

As she thought this, Paige Summers’s hand, which was tracing the earthen wall, suddenly froze.

Footsteps were coming from their direction—a messy, chaotic shuffle!

Damn it!

Zombies, and a lot of them!

They could have shown up at any time, but of course they had to wait until they were cornered here... ’Are we about to be trapped like rats in a cage?!’

Paige Summers had no time to think. She quickly retreated into the cave. "Get up! A huge horde of Zombies is coming!"

After shouting this to Sheldon Reid, she took her stance at the cave entrance, Crossbow in her left hand and long knife in her right, ready for battle. She looked as if she could hold the pass against ten thousand men.

The path in front of their cave had a solid wall on the left and another passage on the right. It was wide enough for about four or five people to stand shoulder to shoulder, making it surprisingly spacious. Over fifty meters away, there was a corner to the left. If the Zombies were coming, they would have to pass through there.

Two days of exploration had allowed her eyes to adapt to the darkness. Now, she could see what was coming even without a light.

So, she stared unblinkingly at the corner, raising her Crossbow.

When the first Zombie appeared with a clumsy shuffle, she reacted instantly, firing a poisoned Crossbow Arrow.

The bolt, whistling through the air, plunged powerfully and accurately into the Zombie’s right eye!

The tremendous force sent it reeling backward.

A THUD followed, as it seemed to crash into the Zombie behind it.

Paige Summers seized the opportunity and shot forward...

Crossbow and long knife in tandem!

Her transitions between them were already seamless.

A second, a third... in the blink of an eye, six Zombies lay on the ground.

Their originally dry, ashen-green bodies soon turned a shade of purple.

But this did nothing to deter the Zombies behind them; they continued to surge toward Paige Summers relentlessly!

For Paige Summers, the fight was getting harder and harder.

As far as she could see, the number of Zombies was staggering—more than the total number she had killed over the past few days!

She had taken the initiative by striking first, but the Zombies that appeared later were progressively stronger.

For instance, one of them was incredibly strong. It picked up the body of a previously killed Zombie and tossed it with ease, as if it were nothing more than a sack of rags!

Fortunately, it wasn’t very fast!

Paige Summers took a few steps back and immediately fired a bolt into its body.

But the one that appeared right after it was not so simple.

It was abnormally fast!

Almost as fast as Paige Summers herself.

She didn’t even have a chance to raise her Crossbow and could only fight it with her long knife!

Even so, the situation was perilous, with one close call after another.

Just as its claws were about to rip the sleeve on her arm, a gunshot suddenly rang out! It was followed by a loud BANG... and after its head was blown to pieces, the Zombie collapsed to the ground.

Paige Summers glanced back. As expected, Sheldon Reid had come out to help.

However, the gun’s recoil was quite strong.

After that one shot, his arm throbbed with pain, and he couldn’t lift it again. He had to rest for the moment.

Thanks to his help, Paige Summers was able to catch her breath.

The next few Zombies weren’t too difficult, and she managed to handle them.

Her one-sided slaughter seemed to agitate and anger the Zombies. Roars of varying pitches and lengths rose and fell throughout the passage.

It had to be said, this could almost be considered an attack in itself.

The sound made Paige Summers’s eardrums ache!

But amidst the cacophony of roars, she faintly caught a sharp, piercing sound.

It wasn’t constant, but whenever it appeared, the Zombies’ formation seemed to change...

After it happened several times, Paige Summers finally noticed it. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

And a possibility occurred to her!

’Could it be... a voice commanding the Zombies?’

A wave of excitement washed over her.

What she hadn’t told Sheldon Reid was that she had a faint feeling that the other exit might be related to this High-level Zombie.

A feeling wasn’t proof, but she strongly believed her intuition wasn’t baseless!

But in the current situation, if she wanted to find that Zombie, she would first have to kill all the ones blocking her way.

The slaughter felt endless!

Paige Summers had no idea how many Zombies she had killed.

With Sheldon Reid providing cover, she had already gone through two boxes of crossbow bolts, and both were now empty. Her right hand, the one holding the knife, was even beginning to tremble slightly!

Just then, that sharp, piercing sound appeared again!

This time, its pitch was clearly different from before, becoming extremely high and strident!

Paige Summers’s heart skipped a beat. ’It feels like an ultimatum!’

Sure enough, just after she killed another Zombie, a black shadow shot out from somewhere in the horde like a bolt of lightning, lunging at Paige Summers!

Paige Summers dodged to the side, then engaged its sharp claws with her long knife.

This time, she was truly giving it her all!

Although she couldn’t gain the upper hand, she wasn’t on the verge of defeat, either.

Paige Summers knew very well that her opponent was a Zombie, but when she got a clear look at its face, she couldn’t help but be surprised!

Aside from its ashen skin, slightly bulging eyes, and the dark circles around them, the young Zombie looked almost like a normal human!

Its skin wasn’t as dry, its mouth wasn’t hanging open drooling, and it was wearing human clothes. She even noticed its eyeballs moving, and they seemed to hold a hint of human emotion.

She couldn’t help but try shouting, "Hey! Stop! Let’s talk!"
