Apocalypse Villainess? Nah, I'm Nice
Chapter 37 - 25: Acquaintance
Blue smiled shyly, then got up and neatly patted the dust from his pants.
"Long time no see."
Paige Summers scratched her head. "Yeah, it has been. But why are you here today...?"
"Ah, Young Master Monroe told me to wait here for you. He said you were low on food and would probably be coming out in the next day or two." As he spoke, he brought in a large bag that was behind him. "This is all packaged food. Where should I put it?"
"Oh, uh, anywhere inside is fine."
’So he works for Marcus Monroe...’ 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
Paige suddenly felt like laughing.
’Is this some kind of spy-versus-spy situation, or what? A single Hunting Party in the Lower District, and he’s planted more than one informant... Is this how he keeps tabs on the Lower District at all times?!’
’Well, I can’t be bothered with these power struggles.’
In five days, she had come up with a preliminary modification plan, but many details still needed to be refined and confirmed. She was getting a headache from being cooped up and needed to come out for some fresh air.
She stood outside the door and took a deep breath, then noticed that Blue, having set the bag down, was standing in front of her again.
"Is there something else?"
Blue’s face reddened. "Yes, Young Master Monroe said that if it’s convenient today, I should take you to see Master Warren’s new shop."
Paige raised an eyebrow in surprise. "It’s already open?"
"Yes, it opened yesterday. Young Master Monroe said it was best to keep it low-key, and Master Warren and the others agreed. So, they just had a simple ribbon-cutting without any big fanfare. I heard the Young City Lord was very unhappy about it." Blue shifted awkwardly before adding, "Um, I asked around. He’s not there today, so you won’t run into him if you go!"
’Does he know everything...? What a gossip!’
’Hmm, well, that makes sense. I guess his job is to gather intelligence.’
Paige tilted her head, her pretty face looking utterly innocent, but the light dancing in her eyes was far too mischievous. "What makes you think I don’t want to see the Young City Lord, and would go out of my way to avoid him?! I admire him, you know! He’s young, handsome, powerful, and... you know... all that. In short, your sources are flawed!"
She hadn’t even finished speaking when Blue’s expression changed.
His face, which had held a trace of shyness, suddenly darkened, and even his round eyes narrowed into slits.
"Shallow woman! Are your eyes just for decoration, or are you just plain blind!" The arrogant and contemptuous words spilled from Blue’s mouth. He curled one side of his lip, and the delicate-featured boy instantly transformed into a sharp-tongued youth.
Paige’s jaw nearly dropped.
’What the hell!’
’Is this some kind of face-changing act?’
’But that was way too fast. It was like he became a completely different person!’
’Does he have to be so dramatic...’
Seemingly displeased by her stunned expression, Blue suddenly reached out to grab her arm.
Paige was instantly on alert. She dodged in a flash, simultaneously reaching up to pull the headband from her hair. With a slight lift of her forearm, she whipped the flower on its end out toward his side.
Blue didn’t know what to make of it. ’Her aim is terrible!’ he thought.
But in the next moment, the small metal flower swung around his body and returned to Paige’s hand.
In the blink of an eye, the other end of the elastic band was latched into the flower’s petals.
Then it began to tighten, and tighten again.
It all happened so fast that by the time Blue realized what was going on, his forearms were bound tightly against his body!
"Bastard! What are you doing?! How dare you do this to me! If you have the guts, then never let me go, otherwise I’ll make you wish you were dead, but I won’t let you—"
His unfinished words were silenced by a sharp point pressed against his throat.
Paige snorted and mimicked his arrogant chin-lift. "You idiot! Is your head just for decoration, or do you not need it at all? Should I wash out that filthy mouth of yours first?"
"You!" Blue was too furious to speak.
Just then, a soft chuckle sounded from nearby.
"How exciting! I never thought Young Master Monroe’s hidden ace would be you! Sweetheart, want to come out and play with me?"
’Another one? And I didn’t even hear him!’ Paige turned her head, annoyed.
The person was standing at the base of the high courtyard wall. Judging by his posture, with his head twisted around to look at them while the rest of his body was still turned away, he had clearly just climbed over. She frowned. She remembered Marcus Monroe saying that while the wall looked ordinary, he’d had it rigged. A few consecutive footholds would release a current strong enough to knock out an elephant.
’I don’t think he would lie about that, but then what’s happening right now?’
’And that face... She felt like she’d seen it somewhere before...’
"Huh? Aren’t you that... that Warren... something?" Although it was an ordinary, unremarkable face, she had a faint impression of it because he was so fair-skinned. She was certain he was another member of the Lucky Hunters!
