Chapter 283: Chapter 283: One More Thing to Finish

"Where are the rest of the people...?" Norman was the first to launch himself at them as soon as they landed, desperately clutching Cassias’ sleeve.

There was a wound on his temple, still bleeding.

Zerra and Cassias fell silent. They didn’t know what they should tell him...

However, Norman could already make his own conclusion from the two people’s complicated and sorrowful faces. There was no lack of wounds and blood on Zerra and Cassias’ exposed skin.

He gathered himself, standing straight and turning to the people present. His desperation seemed to echo in everyone’s hearts.

"ANITA, YOU DEMON. COME OUT HERE!" He screamed hoarsely, as hard as he could, dashing forward with bloodshot eyes.

"Are you two still going to stop me?" He growled when two ability users came to block him from going inside the tent.

They sighed and finally let him in.

The moment the team leader announced that the rope had fallen down, everyone was shocked. No matter how he tried to assure everyone that it was fine, they were still filled with doubts.

The ability users just didn’t voice out their suspicions.

They were also a little worried about the ability users who had fallen down while wearing the ropes. Wouldn’t they fall down to their deaths? Unfortunately, the team leader didn’t even give them a detailed explanation.

"The ropes had nearly touched the bottom of the cliff," he explained. "They should be fine with so many people waiting for them down below."

After that, the team leader ordered people to fetch some ropes from the base. However, their speed was extremely slow. Even after a long time, no one had returned to bring back the ropes.

In a fit of rage, Norman even intended to break into the team leader’s tent. The ending was expected; he failed. Instead, they smashed his head with a dull weapon, resulting in the injury on his temple.

Mateo had no choice but to step forward and dragged Norman away, trying to reassure him. Azir was about to do the same, but fortunately, he noticed the reckless teenager’s intention and stopped him.

"They are deliberately doing this, don’t you know?" He remarked indignantly. "It’s impossible for two ropes to just fall like that! Did the people holding the ropes get their heads kicked by donkeys at the same time?!"

"This is a deliberate scheme! There were so many people who were holding the ropes!" Azir kicked and trashed, yet he was no match compared to Mateo’s strength.

At this moment, Azir was already released by Mateo and currently running toward the couple. Before he could flung himself to Zerra, Cassias stood in front of her.

Azir stuck to him like an octopus, gasping, "I-I thought... you all died..."

On the other side, Norman had come out again after he didn’t find Anita.

The team leader had sent her back to the base, disguised as the team who was retrieving the ropes.

Perhaps, they didn’t expect that there would be survivors among the group who had come down. As such, when the team leader came out of the tent, he was taken aback upon seeing Zerra and Cassias.

Soon, his face turned aghast. He turned around, wanting to go back inside and pretend he hadn’t seen them, but Norman caught him first.

Although the team leader was stronger, Norman had the advantage of catching him off guard. As such, the team leader was currently sprawling on the ground.

The loud noise attracted everyone’s attention.

"You were inside enjoying your snacks while others were sacrificing themselves for the damned base." Norman scoffed, obviously looking for a place to vent because Anita was gone.

With that, he pulled the tent, showing everyone exactly what he had said. There was a lot of food inside, even some rare drinks like fruit juice and wine.

Their eyes changed the moment they saw such a scene, wide and full of disbelief. There was no lack of accusation in everyone’s eyes.

Did the base treat their lives as child’s play?

The team leader was full of panic, and it was unknown who started it first. They all swarmed toward him.

When Azir asked about the fate of other people who had gone down to the bottom of the cliff, they all heard it. The people were dead, including the strange woman that Anita had brought with her.

"Listen... to... I... explain..." The team leader gasped, however, his voice was drowned by the sound of people cursing.

If they had been the ones who had gone down, they would have perished by now. They weren’t sure whether the team leader would kill them, and with some people provoking behind the scenes, they were all incited to act first out of fear.

In the end, the team leader and those who supported him died under the ability users’ onslaught.

"Zerra, how about Uncle and Auntie?" Azir pursed his lips, and soon, he regretted asking. If something had happened to them, he might have dug out her wounds.

"They are fine." Zerra smiled.

"Really?" Azir muttered skeptically.

"Yeah, let’s go back to the base now. We still need to do one thing before we leave." Her eyes turned cold at the thought of Anita who had escaped the scene.

They all rode back to the base, followed by Mateo’s group. Norman was still distraught.

"We will definitely take revenge on that witch," Mateo reassured him. "Her heart is truly black. We should have let her die inside that zombie animal’s mouth."

Norman clenched his fists, and he let out a breath.

The first thing Zerra and Cassias did upon arriving was to find the middle-aged man—one of the base leaders who had told them about the mission.

He was one of the people responsible for it. They didn’t directly barge in. Seeing Zerra and Cassias didn’t instantly enter the room, Mateo had to restrain Norman for a bit so that he wouldn’t break the door recklessly.

"Are you sure that they will really die? I am putting my life on the line for you, Anita!" The middle-aged man’s annoyed voice rang out.

"You didn’t believe me? That woman is powerful. She definitely would bring them down. They had intended to leave, anyway. Compared to a powerful entity like that woman who is willing to stay, you can easily choose, right?" Anita’s voice rang out after that.

However, before the middle-aged man could respond to her, the door was slammed open.

They all instinctively turned toward the door. The look of annoyance on their faces morphed into horror.
