Chapter 74: Make Them Kneel

For a heartbeat, nobody moved.

Nobody breathed.

Then air rushed back into three sets of lungs simultaneously.

A collective exhale swept through the room.

The reaction was different for each of them.

Silas closed his eyes.

Lucien’s tail lashed behind him.

Kaelith slowly unclenched his fists. Deep marks from his fingernails lined his palms.

But beneath those differences were the same emotions.

Relief and Joy.

And the overwhelming certainty that Mirabelle had chosen them.

But she wasn’t finished.

"Choosing a Beast partner should have been something intimate. Something instinctive.

But circumstances denied me that choice.

Which is why all three of you will hear my decision together."

She leaned back slightly against the throne.

"If you can live with me and the other two, then we can build a future together. For ourselves. And for Luchsenstein."

Her golden eyes sharpened.

"But there is something you should understand. If you take this step with me, I will use you like pieces in a game whose rules I dictate."

Silas stared at his female.

For the first time, he truly understood how ambitious Mirabelle was.

How much larger her dreams were than he had ever imagined.

A grim determination spread through him.

Whatever goals she set for herself — he would make certain she reached them.

And he would use every tool at his disposal to ensure it happened.

Mirabelle’s words barely affected Kaelith.

He had already told her countless times that he would do anything for her.

Die for her.

Fight for her.

Challenge death itself for her.

And he had meant every word.

Meanwhile, a strange excitement began to spread through Lucien.

He had always considered himself a player seated at a table full of boring opponents and meaningless games.

But now — the entire world suddenly unfolded before him like a game board.

And he found himself wondering what moves Mirabelle would choose for him.

"This may have started because Berghaim lost a war," Mirabelle continued, "but I will make certain those responsible someday wish they had never started it."

The room grew still.

"As thanks for my noble birth, I will allow others to tell me what to do exactly once."

Her gaze swept over them.

"By accepting you as my mates, I have fulfilled that obligation."

Lucien shot the panther and the hyena a glance.

Those words were directed at them.

And he could tell they landed exactly where intended.

"Never again."

The temperature in the room seemed to drop.

"I will not bow a second time.

So be prepared to bring others to their knees."

Her gaze lingered on Lucien.

"Even if they stand beneath your banner."

Kaelith was next.

"Even if they once stood beside you."

Then came Silas.

"Even if they share your blood.

If you cannot do that, then this is your only chance to leave.

I have no need for partners pursuing their own agendas."

Her voice remained calm.

Far to calm for the threat that followed:

"You are either on my side...

...or you can stand aside and watch as I burn yours to the ground."

The words echoed through the throne room.

"And believe me.

I won’t look back.

Those fires will serve only one purpose:

They will illuminate my path."

Silence followed.

Three males looked up at the female seated before them.

At the ruler she was becoming.

At the force she was about to unleash upon the world.

None of them reacted. Yet none of them looked surprised.

Deep down, they had known this was coming.

Lucien was the first to understand what Mirabelle was truly asking of them.

Loyalty.

Not obedience.

Not affection.

Loyalty.

The kind that survived when interests collided and difficult choices had to be made.

The fox found he could accept that surprisingly easily.

Political alliances came and went.

Power shifted.

Territory borders changed.

A mate remained.

Kaelith’s reaction was even simpler.

Friends. Family. Allies. Enemies.

None of those categories mattered as much to him as the female standing before him.

He had already chosen her long ago.

The rest was merely sorting out the details.

Silas thought the longest.

Family.

The word lingered.

Yet when he imagined standing on opposite sides of a battlefield from those he shared blood with, he felt no hesitation.

The realization should have disturbed him.

Instead, it only confirmed what he had known for some time.

If forced to choose between them and Mirabelle...

He already knew who he would choose.

Mirabelle smiled.

Full of confidence.

"I invite you to stand beside me and discover what happens when someone finally stops accepting the limits this world has placed upon them."

Her gaze locked onto theirs.

"To find out how much of this world can be changed before it breaks.

And whether we can build something better from the pieces."

Not one of the three males looked away.

Not one of them hesitated.

Because somewhere during her speech, they had realized something.

Mirabelle wasn’t asking them to follow her.

She was offering them a front-row seat to a revolution.

Silas spoke first.

Placing his right hand over his heart, he said:

"Mirabelle of Luchsenstein, I choose you before the Beast Goddess as my partner."

With those words, he spoke the ancient vow that bound a Beastman to a female.

Only the mating itself would make the bond complete and grant him the right to stand at her side as her true partner.

His golden eyes never left hers.

"I will bring darkness to your enemies."

The shadows at his feet stirred.

"I will cast night across every horizon your gaze falls upon."

His voice deepened.

"And when the world kneels beneath your feet, it will be your light they remember shining above it."

Kaelith spoke next.

"Mirabelle of Luchsenstein, I accept you before the Beast Goddess as my partner."

A grin tugged at the corner of his mouth.

Wild.

Fearless.

Completely sincere.

"Let me be the weapon in your hand."

His fingers curled slowly into a fist.

"And I will deliver every victory your heart desires."

The air seemed to grow colder for a brief moment.

"Whether it lies in this world..."

His crimson eyes gleamed.

"...or waits beyond the veil of death itself."

Lucien was the last to speak.

He stepped forward and bowed his head.

"Mirabelle of Luchsenstein, I take you before the Beast Goddess as my partner."

When he looked up again, there was something dangerous hidden beneath his usual charm.

"I will help you turn the future you dream of into reality."

His tail swayed slowly behind him.

"I will help you bend opportunity, circumstance, and fate itself until they align with your vision."

A faint smile touched his lips.

"And for all those who earn your displeasure..."

The smile sharpened.

"...may your dreams become a nightmare they spend the rest of their lives trying to escape."

The moment Silas spoke the words that bound him to her before the Beast Goddess, something happened that Mirabelle had not expected.

For a brief moment, the panther Beastman seemed to glow.

A faint yellow aura flickered around him.

The dust dancing through the throne room, glittering in the light of the setting sun, suddenly began to gather.

It swirled.

Twisted.

Then formed the outline of a massive panther.

The creature settled behind Silas and regarded her with calm, calculating eyes.

The scent of wet earth filled the room. Of rain clouds gathering on the horizon. Of a storm that had not yet broken.

The smell wrapped around her. Teasing her.

Curious and playful, like a predator deciding whether to pounce.

When Kaelith spoke his vow, crimson light erupted around him.

His silhouette glowed blood-red.

Again the dust responded.

Darkening.

Gathering.

Until the shape of a red hyena emerged behind him.

The beast sat upon its haunches, tilted its head, and stared directly at her.

Warm stone.

Sunlight on desert rock.

The scent flooded her senses. Unlike Silas’ storm, this one embraced her.

Wrapped around her shoulders like a lover’s arms.

Yet somehow the earth and rain remained as well. Neither scent chased the other away.

Then Lucien finished his oath.

Emerald light flowed across his body.

Elegant. Bright. Alive.

Behind him appeared a fox formed from shimmering green dust.

The fox looked smug.

Which was particularly offensive because it wasn’t technically real.

At least, Mirabelle desperately hoped it wasn’t.

It sat gracefully for all of three seconds.

Then its tail began wagging excitedly.

Mirabelle had to bite the inside of her cheek.

Mirabelle fought the urge to laugh. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

She inhaled deeply.

And suddenly she was standing in a pine forest at dawn.

Fresh air.

Needles warmed by the first rays of sunlight.

The scent danced around her, weaving itself effortlessly into the storm and sunlight already surrounding her.

For a moment she thought she was hallucinating.

Then a far more alarming realization struck her.

Something was happening.

Something that absolutely should not be happening.

Firstly because it was objectively bizarre.

And secondly because she had never heard of it.

Not once.

Not in conversation.

Not in the memorys.

Not in any of the hundreds of books she had spent the last three days devouring.

’Is this a skill?

Oh my god. Oh my god.

OH MY GOD.’

The urge to leap from the throne, point at the glowing spirit animals, and start celebrating was almost overwhelming.

But she resisted.

Barely.

But she couldn’t dwell on it.

This was important. A serious moment.

Three males were pledging themselves to her as partners.

And meanwhile she was busy having a private existential crisis over magical dust animals.

’Priorities, Mirabelle!’

Priorities!

She could panic later.

Subtly, she pinched the inside of her arm.

The sharp sting helped.

A little.

And she desperately needed to focus.

Because now came the truly difficult part.

Slowly, she rose from the throne.

Her dress flowed around her like liquid sunlight.

Like water.

Like molten gold.

The three males followed her every movement as she descended the steps.

One by one.

Until she stopped in front of Kaelith.

The hyena looked up at her.

She extended her hand.

Uncertainty crossed his face.

Still, he reached out and took it.

"Come."
