Back to the 1980s: Becoming the Villain's Lucky Wife
Chapter 301: Eating Strawberries
Qin Zhonghui saw that the boy was about the same age as his own daughter. Since the boy was innocent even if his mother was a mistress, he didn’t give him a hard time and just nodded.
Chen Feng placed two lunch boxes on the table opposite them and called for his mom to come eat. His gaze swept over Qin Jiao, who was reading beside him, before finally landing on Xiao Shi, who was leaning against her. He turned, pulled a few plums from his pocket, and offered them to Xiao Shi. "These plums are really sweet. Want to try one?"
Without any prompting from the adults, Xiao Shi shook her head and said, "No, thank you. We have strawberries at our house."
Once you had a large patch of strawberries growing well, they actually had a very long harvest season. And with the environment inside the space—something even modern greenhouses couldn’t compare to—Xiao Shi had plenty of cherries and strawberries to eat. Who would want sour-looking plums?
To other children, fruit might be a luxury, and plums a rare treat, but to Xiao Shi, they really weren’t anything special.
Most importantly, that boy’s mother had been awful just now. Although Xiao Shi didn’t quite understand adult matters, she instinctively disliked Li Xiaomei and certainly wouldn’t take anything Chen Feng offered her.
Chen Feng felt a little awkward but didn’t say anything, simply taking the plums back. Li Xiaomei, however, was not pleased. She sneered, "Your family? A bunch of bun sellers? You can afford to eat strawberries?"
Strawberries were so expensive these days, and they weren’t easy to find. The last time Shen Zhengfeng brought some back from North City, they had gotten crushed during the trip, but Li Xiaomei was still thrilled and had deliberately taken them to her office to show off while she ate.
Xiao Shi blinked her eyes. "We can too afford them. Not just strawberries, we have cherries, too. And they’re both super sweet and yummy."
Li Xiaomei snorted. ’This little girl is so annoying,’ she thought. ’Thank goodness I had a son.’
Qin Jiao put down her book, then took out some washed strawberries and cherries from another lunch box beside her. She handed them to her parents and Xiao Shi.
"Mom, Dad, Xiao Shi, have some fruit for after our meal."
There were so many strawberries, all huge and vibrantly red. Watching the family of four enjoying them with such relish, Li Xiaomei suddenly lost her appetite for her own boxed lunch.
Qin Zhonghui and Su Yun had traveled far from home before, having left to work as migrant laborers with their fellow villagers in their younger years. As for Qin Jiao, she had been to many places in her past life. So, they were all quite calm. This, however, was the first time Xiao Shi had ever traveled so far. She was bursting with excitement, constantly pressed against the window to stare at the new sights.
"Sis! Look, quick! That building is so tall! And that mountain, it looks like a person lying down!"
The little girl’s face was flushed with excitement. She had become much more lively and outgoing than before. Her features had also started to blossom; she’d put on some healthy weight and had shot up in height.
Her older sister was a great beauty, and it was clear that when Xiao Shi grew up, she would be one as well.
Li Xiaomei had already climbed onto the middle bunk. "So uncultured," she remarked snidely.
’In her past life, Qin Jiao had spent a considerable amount of time around Li Xiaomei. The woman was an expert at putting on an act. In all those years, Qin Jiao hadn’t once suspected that she and Shen Zhengfeng were involved.’
’No, the two of them had been carrying on a secret affair for ages. They were just too good at faking it, keeping everyone else in the dark.’
’But the current Li Xiaomei had yet to become Mrs. Shen and hadn’t started her performance. Or maybe she just felt it was beneath her to put on an act for the Qin Family. That was why she was so openly displaying her snide and materialistic nature.’
’Of course, according to the plot of the original book, this woman was her future mother-in-law. She would despise Qin Jiao for her rural background and make her life a living hell in every way imaginable.’
