Chapter 61: Chapter 61: Retreating to Advance

Qin Zhonghui and his wife were speechless. ’Why should we be the ones to give them money?’

In truth, when they had run into them on the road, they hadn’t wanted to bring the couple home at all. The other two had just shamelessly insisted on following them back.

Qin Jiqun and Feng Lan were a typical shameless couple, the kind who would eat you out of house and home!

Qin Jiao had just about finished wiping the mud spots off the floor. She suddenly looked up and said with pleasant surprise, "Oh, Uncle, Auntie, you’re not leaving tonight? That’s wonderful!"

Everyone present was stunned.

Qin Zhonghui and his wife had no idea what their eldest daughter was up to. Su Yun was about to say something anxiously, but Qin Zhonghui shot her a look.

Although they didn’t know what their daughter was planning, the events of the past few months had made them fully realize that their eldest had grown up and become sensible. She had to have her reasons for saying this.

Over on the other side, Qin Jiqun and Feng Lan exchanged a glance. They felt that this sudden enthusiasm from that damn girl, Qin Jiao, was a little fishy.

Feng Lan asked tentatively, "You’re happy for us to stay?"

"Of course! Xiao Shi and I can sleep on the floor. Uncle, Auntie, your timing is perfect! I got into a fight with a girl today. She insisted that I stole her boyfriend, so she’s planning to bring her three older brothers to our house tonight to have a little ’talk’." Qin Jiao held up her fingers and counted seriously, "She said her oldest brother is a butcher, her second brother is a blacksmith, and oh, she also bragged that her third brother is even tougher—that he has a lot of lackeys in this town. I don’t know if it’s true. I feel like she’s just bluffing!"

After she finished, Qin Jiao looked eagerly at the restless Qin Jiqun and his wife. "I was so worried before. What if they really show up with a whole group of people? But it’s great that you’re here now, Uncle! You’ll be able to help out, no matter what. After all, my mom is frail, and my dad’s hand still hasn’t healed."

Feng Lan’s mouth twitched. She gave a dry laugh and said, "You damn girl, always joking. Why would you ever steal someone else’s boyfriend?"

"I didn’t! But that’s what she’s saying, and it’s really annoying. I think she’s probably just trying to scare me, though. She wouldn’t actually come all the way to my house, right?"

Hearing Qin Jiao say this, Qin Jiqun breathed a sigh of relief. He went along with her, saying, "Exactly. Besides, they don’t know where you live."

"Oh, my address? All my classmates know it."

The breath Qin Jiqun had just let out got caught in his throat again.

He and Feng Lan exchanged another look.

The two of them had come to his older brother’s home simply to see how the family was doing.

They also wanted to confirm whether his brother’s hand had healed.

Now they saw that the family had moved into an apartment building—albeit an unheated one, so the rent probably wasn’t too expensive. Waking up early and working late to make and sell steamed buns likely didn’t earn them much, either.

If the family had tried to kick them out, they would have shamelessly stayed put. But they never expected that damn girl Qin Jiao would actually want them to stay.

They could understand if any of the other three family members asked them to stay. ’But not Qin Jiao!’

Feng Lan shot Qin Jiqun a look. Qin Jiqun cleared his throat and said, "Zhong Hui’s place is so small, there’s definitely no room for us. We’ll just go to the guesthouse next door."

Su Yun’s brow relaxed, but her mind was preoccupied with the thought of her daughter fighting with someone over a boyfriend, so she didn’t say anything.

Qin Zhonghui just made a noncommittal sound, his expression unreadable.

But when Qin Jiao heard this, she immediately grew anxious. "Uncle, you can’t leave!"

Seeing her so desperate, Qin Jiqun and his wife grew even more antsy. Just then, they heard someone shout in the hallway. The two of them shot up as if they were sitting on hot needles, grabbed their small bags, and bolted out the door.
