Beast Taming: My System is Bugged
Chapter 249 - 246: I Believe It Is
For Cyan Treasure’s Mastery of Wood Escape to create something out of thin air, it would require an extremely high Skill Level, one that had integrated the Great Dao itself.
At its current Entry Level, it needed an original Grass Seed as a medium to replicate more Grass Seeds using Life Energy.
The previous super fire-resistant root had been a material Gu Ming purchased in the city. He brought it home and, with the help of the system’s "ramblings," concocted a future version of a fire-resistant Grass Seed.
Once he obtained the Rootless Wood, Gu Ming likewise sensed an opportunity for it to serve as a Grass Seed.
It was a subtle intuition, nothing tangible, yet it filled him with the certainty that there was a chance.
"Cyan Treasure, have you ever heard of Rootless Wood?" Gu Ming started the conversation, preparing to tell Cyan Treasure a story.
Cyan Treasure’s gaze fell on the half-charred, half-new bud in its master’s palm. Hearing his words, it looked up in confusion, flicking its forked tongue.
It didn’t know.
’What is Master trying to say this time?’
Cyan Treasure shook its head.
Gu Ming described the scene after this morning’s Demon Fiend invasion in detail, explaining how the Rootless Wood was born from the void, descended from the sky to the ground, and tore the entire land apart, vividly showcasing its Space Ability and destructive power.
Upon hearing this, Cyan Treasure’s eyes suddenly lit up, its little tail swaying from side to side. It was clearly interested.
It immediately asked in its serpentine tongue:
"A Rootless Wood that amazing... where would I have to go to learn its abilities?"
Gu Ming smiled. "Good question. This very bud in my hand is the legendary Rootless Wood."
As his words fell, Cyan Treasure was dumbfounded.
’This new bud doesn’t have the slightest spatial fluctuation. How could it possibly be "rootless"?’
It was clearly born from the local soil, only sprouting after being charred by the Demon Fiend and falling to the ground.
With its Grass Element Perception Ability, it could easily sense that this piece of wood was closely connected to the native land.
’This is the homeland that birthed and nurtured it. It can’t possibly be the rootless tree Master is talking about.’
"Cyan Treasure, you have to trust my judgment.
"If I say this is the Rootless Wood, then it is the Rootless Wood.
"You must understand that it had already died completely in the battle during the Demon Fiend invasion."
"Died?" Cyan Treasure tilted its head, utterly bewildered.
"That’s right. Can’t you feel it?
"It has shed its past identity through absolute death.
"Sense it again, carefully. It has now been reborn with a completely new identity."
"Perhaps you know that it once had a homeland, that it once had roots. But after being reborn from destruction, it is now a tree without roots.
"Because the soil of its home was burned to ash, and all of its Life Power was completely corroded away.
"It is the Rootless Wood. It is a new shoot that has bloomed from a place of utter despair. It is the Seed of Rootless Wood Grass, destined to strike back against the Demon Fiends. Do you believe this?"
Gu Ming pocketed the Rootless Wood and quietly waited for Cyan Treasure’s response.
Cyan Treasure was still full of questions.
But it was willing to believe the story its master was weaving. After all, it was a Little Cyan Snake in its Juvenile Stage that enjoyed listening to stories.
When Gu Ming saw Cyan Treasure nodding repeatedly, several bullet comments popped up from the system:
Time Dragon Cyan Treasure senses the will of this wood. It realizes this is the body of the Rootless Wood, which has been subjected to Possession by the local hope and obsession, and has been reborn from a desperate situation.
Although this wood is still a Rootless Wood, its inside is now a soul with roots. It is a mutated Spirit Wood.
If this wood is used as a Grass Seed to practice the Mastery of Wood Escape, its rooted nature might act as a safeguard, allowing one to escape the side effects of the Demon Fiend’s corrosion.
Seeing this, Gu Ming once again took out the half-dead piece of wood.
The new green bud on the other end of the deadwood was now emitting a fresh aura. With Cyan Treasure’s affirmation, it grew even more vibrant and lush.
"Come, Cyan Treasure. Refine it. Make it your Grass Seed."
Gu Ming said, handing the bud to Cyan Treasure.
Grass Element Pet Beasts using Grass Seeds to fight on the battlefield was already a common tactic in the Beast Taming Realm, and the method for refining Grass Seeds was no secret either.
The Refining Technique they used was quite simple; even Zero-star Pet Beasts could learn it. It was called the Cyan Grass Refining Technique and aimed to use a gentle, grass-like Power to slowly refine the seed and imprint it with one’s own mark. The process was quite troublesome, often taking a week or more.
Because of this, Pet Beasts with High-star Potential would learn more efficient Refining Methods.
The same was true for Cyan Treasure. It hadn’t learned the Cyan Grass Refining Technique. Instead, it directly used the power of its Mastery of Wood Escape to perform the Refinement.
This was a more direct approach, allowing the bud to become a Grass Seed akin to a source of its own power.
Cyan Treasure coiled its body around the half-charred, half-new piece of wood, wrapping it up completely.
Then, a green Power erupted from its entire body, and it began the Refinement with a great surge.
Up to this point, neither Gu Ming nor Cyan Treasure had sensed any spatial fluctuations from the bud.
But the legend of the Rootless Wood was now deeply imprinted in Cyan Treasure’s mind.
It began to believe that this was a tree reborn in a desperate situation, a tree that had lost its home and had no roots.
It yearned to strike back against the Demon Fiends that had invaded its land, and it hoped that the Pet Beast refining it would one day help it get its revenge.
Cyan Treasure agreed to its request, so the entire Refinement process was extremely fast.
Layers upon layers of green light enveloped Cyan Treasure’s body. In less than half an hour, the Refinement was complete, and it had absorbed the bud into itself.
Teacher Zhang, who had been secretly observing from the side, had heard Gu Ming’s entire story about the Rootless Wood.
He didn’t comment on the significance of such a teaching method. He only felt that the bond between Gu Ming and Cyan Treasure was incredibly deep—a friendship, or perhaps even a familial bond, that many would find hard to understand.
This stirred a strange sense of emotion within him.
’This is the passion of youth,’ he couldn’t help but sigh to himself.
Once the Seed of Rootless Wood Grass was inside Cyan Treasure’s body, Gu Ming asked, "Do you sense any spatial fluctuations?"
Cyan Treasure was about to say, ’How is that possible?’ when it was shocked to feel a transparent ripple emanate from within its body.
At that moment, even Cyan Treasure was stunned.
"See? I told you to believe me. This is the Rootless Wood."
Cyan Treasure was stupefied. It really could feel a faint spatial fluctuation, one that existed within the Seed of Rootless Wood Grass.
The seed had only just been refined, and its core Power was still minuscule. It couldn’t yet display its full strength and would need a large amount of Life Energy to be nurtured and grown before Cyan Treasure could use it completely.
This process would consume a considerable amount of precious Spirit Medicine.
Teacher Zhang, who had accompanied Gu Ming all the way back to the school, also sensed that extremely faint spatial fluctuation as he got out of the car.
If he hadn’t been watching intently with his Divine Sense, he would never have noticed it at all.
He couldn’t help but stare at Cyan Treasure in utter astonishment, his gaze fixed on it as if trying to see right through it.
Without a doubt, that spatial fluctuation came neither from the Foundation Establishment Platform nor the Sea of Consciousness. It came from the "Rootless Wood" that had just been refined inside Cyan Treasure’s Dantian.
Teacher Zhang slapped his forehead, almost thinking he was hearing and seeing things.
But as it turned out, Gu Ming had really pulled off something huge.
"How in the world did you two do that?" Teacher Zhang couldn’t help but ask.
As a Beastmaster teacher from the nine-year compulsory education system, he was completely baffled.
Gu Ming spread his hands, a look of innocence on his face. "You saw it yourself. That’s just how we did it."
"I don’t get it. I really don’t get it at all." Teacher Zhang shook his head, feeling a generation gap between himself and Gu Ming. He couldn’t comprehend his methods.
