Chapter 147: Chapter 147: Why Don’t They Look Alike?

Yu An could freely enter and exit the space, but others couldn’t. So, without waiting for Yu Huang to respond, she vanished on the spot.

"An’an—"

Yu Huang could only watch helplessly as she left. She was powerless to stop her, unable to even slow her down for a moment.

The ability Yu An had just displayed was formidable, but the Jade Pendant was sucking people to an unknown destination. The unknown is always terrifying.

The moment she exited the space, Yu An crashed into a sturdy embrace. She saw Han Li and Xiao Yu, their eyes wide in the howling wind. Before anyone could say a word, the three of them were sucked into the Jade Pendant.

As she was pulled in, the Jade Pendant’s suction abruptly vanished. It then plummeted from midair and shattered into pieces.

CRASH—

The freshly brewed tea on the table was knocked over. Ao Jin stared blankly at the shattered teacup.

Little Serpent poked his head in. "Grandpa Jing, what’s wrong?" 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖

"It’s nothing," Ao Jin said, snapping out of it and smiling at him. "The teacup broke."

"Shattered for safety’s sake," Little Serpent said quickly. "My Female Mother says that if you break something, saying ’shattered for safety’s sake’ will keep you safe."

Ao Jin couldn’t help but chuckle. "Is that so? What an interesting saying. Are you hungry? Grandpa will make you something to eat."

Little Serpent shook his head. "I’m not hungry. But those people in the cellar seem a little bit dead. Do you want to go check on them?"

Ao Jin had taken Little Serpent’s suggestion, tying up the neighboring Beastmen and tossing them into the cellar. He only gave them a little water and meat each day, leaving the group howling with hunger.

Ao Jin waved his hand. "No need. If they have the energy to scream, they’re still alive."

"We’re idle anyway. Come on, let’s go study those potatoes you were talking about."

What Ao Jin didn’t know was that while he and his dear grandson were blowing up the kitchen, his dear daughter, Yu An, was researching how to skydive from ten thousand meters without a parachute and not end up in pieces upon landing.

As soon as they were sucked into the Jade Pendant, Yu An grabbed Han Li with one hand and Xiao Yu with the other, quickly pulling them into her space.

When Yu Huang saw she was safe and sound, her anxious heart finally settled.

Seeing the look on Yu An’s face—one that said she would listen obediently now but would absolutely do it again—Yu Huang was speechless. She decided not to waste her breath on her.

Her target was Han Li, who was clearly out of his element and subconsciously trying to make himself smaller.

"So you’re An’an’s Beast Husband?"

Yu Huang’s scrutinizing gaze swept over him. Han Li instinctively stood up straight and stammered, "Y-Yes, yes, I am..."

He was so frightened he could barely speak, and he quickly shot a pleading look at Yu An.

’An’an, save me!’

’I never learned how to suck up to my mother-in-law!’

Yu Huang’s already furrowed brow tightened. "A stutterer?"

"Of course not," Yu An quickly came to Han Li’s defense. "Female Mother, he’s just really nervous."

"There’s a reason I came to the Beast God Continent alone. It’s not their fault. Female Mother, let me explain..."

After a brief explanation, Yu Huang’s brow relaxed slightly. "So that’s how it is."

It really wasn’t Han Li and the others’ fault. If the people Ao Yin had spent so much to cultivate were easily defeated by a few young males, wouldn’t the Invincible Alliance become a laughingstock?

The Mist Forest didn’t count. No matter how powerful you were, entering it was a near-death experience. Escaping was purely a matter of luck.

Xiao Yu listened quietly while the adults talked. When they finished, he raised his hand to indicate that there was still a Zaizai who needed his Female Mother’s attention.

"Xiao Yu! Your Female Mother missed you to death!"

Yu An swept Xiao Yu into a hug and smothered him with kisses until the little guy was dizzy, his fishtail wagging unconsciously.

Yu Huang already knew that Yu An had five and a half Beast Husbands on the Beastman Continent (Lan Yin and Lan Ying shared a body, so they counted as half), and this Little Merfolk was one of Yu An’s Zaizai.

The little fellow was indeed adorable. Noticing her gaze, he proactively stretched his arms out to her. "Hello, Grandmother. I’m Xiao Yu, Female Mother’s second Zaizai. Would you like to hold Xiao Yu?"

The look in Yu Huang’s eyes softened, and she took the little one into her arms.

"By the way," Yu An asked casually, "where is everyone else? Why is it just the two of you?"

Han Li’s expression stiffened, and an unnatural look flickered across his face before vanishing. "They’re in other parts of the Beast God Continent. An’an, after you were taken, we tried to find our way here. But the Beast God Continent is too big, so we split into five teams to look for you."

"Xiao Yu and I drew lots and got put in the same group. That guy Lan Ying had the worst luck; he didn’t get a single Zaizai. He even wanted to cheat and draw again."

Xiao Yu chimed in, "Female Mother, Beast Father Lan Ying also said that when he finds you, he’s going to hug you and cry."

His expression was normal, and with Xiao Yu backing him up, Yu An didn’t grow suspicious. Her attention was completely focused on what was outside the space.

You exit the space from the same place you entered. This meant that as soon as they left, they would appear in midair and then SPLAT onto the ground, shattering into pieces.

Just as Yu An was wondering what she could throw to the ground to cushion their fall, she caught sight of the Cloud Beasts watering plants out of the corner of her eye.

’Wait a minute—’

’Cloud Beasts aren’t like fluffy white clouds that dissipate when you step on them. They can carry people!’

Calling over the Cloud Beast, Little Thirteen, who was watering a small sapling, Yu An climbed on to test it out. It worked.

The only drawback was that a Cloud Beast would let people slip through when it ran out of energy. But there were many Cloud Beasts, so a relay to the ground wouldn’t be a problem at all.

"An’an," Yu Huang said, her expression difficult to describe, "aren’t you forgetting something?"

Yu An instinctively believed that Han Li and Xiao Yu wouldn’t lie to her, so she took their words to heart. But Yu Huang was different; she could clearly see their panic and helplessness.

Just after finding out what had really happened, Yu Huang saw her silly daughter holding a meeting with the Cloud Beasts.

Yu An: "Huh? What?"

"You can fly!"

Yu Huang looked exasperated. "My beast form is a Phoenix, and your Beast Father is likely the Dragon Clan’s Clan Leader. No matter which of us you take after, you can fly!"

"Right, I still don’t know who you take after with your beast form. This is the perfect chance for your Female Mother to see."

Chu Feng and the others, who were playing with the Zaizai, heard this, and their ears pricked up instantly—

They were curious too!

Yu An rubbed the tip of her nose. "Female Mother, maybe you shouldn’t. My beast form is... um, a little small."

"That’s fine," Yu Huang said in a gentle, encouraging tone. "You’re still young. Your beast form will grow as you do."

Yu An’s eyes lit up. "Really? Female Mother, the first time I transformed, I was only the size of a palm. I thought I was adopted!"

Her previous appearance as a little yellow chick was really hard to connect with a majestic and elegant Phoenix!

Yu Huang chuckled, the curve of her lips this time wider than all the previous times combined.

She thought Yu An was joking. "How could that be? No matter how small a Phoenix fledgling is, it wouldn’t be... COUGH, COUGH, COUGH!"

Staring at the little yellow bird before her, which was indeed only the size of a palm and looked nothing like her own beast form.

Yu Huang felt a little faint.

’Fine, so she’s small. We can just say my daughter has room to grow. But why doesn’t she even look like one?!’
