Beast World: From Villainess to Cub-Raising Chef
Chapter 32: Bai Su Turns Out to Be Little Wolf’s Biological Mother
Bai Su nodded. "Yeah, I’ve slimmed down a bit. It’s healthier."
Lu Tingyan didn’t say anything more upon hearing this. He offered a couple of perfunctory replies and left in a hurry.
Bai Su looked down at her figure, then glanced in the direction Lu Tingyan had left and tutted.
The System suddenly spoke up. ’You don’t have to be so hung up on whether he’s the female lead’s future man. He has nothing to do with the female lead right now; he’s technically single. There’s no conflict at all if you have a child with him.’
Bai Su: ’Morally, it’s not an issue, of course. But what I’m afraid of is the female lead’s halo effect.’
The System couldn’t help but whisper, ’How do you know you don’t have a female lead’s halo?’
Bai Su: ’I do?’
System: ’Not at the moment, but you can snatch it back.’
Bai Su was taken aback. ’Snatch it back? What do you mean? The female lead’s halo was never mine, so how can you call it snatching it back?’
But the System suddenly started hemming and hawing. ’N-nothing... It’s nothing. Uh, my system needs to upgrade, so I’m going to sleep. G’night, g’night.’
Bai Su raised an eyebrow, a glint in her eye, but didn’t press the matter further.
"Ouch!" She suddenly felt a sharp sting on her scalp and quickly clutched her head as she turned around, only to see the little munchkin standing behind her on the second-floor staircase, having ambushed her from behind.
Bai Su said with an amused laugh, "What are you up to?"
Bai Xiaolang laughed sheepishly. "It’s nothing. I just saw you had a white hair, Director-Mom, so I pulled it out for you."
Bai Su didn’t think much of it and ruffled his little head. "Alright, go on and play. It’s your day off from duty today. Just let the little kittens and Little Tiger help out in the shop."
Bai Xiaolang nodded obediently and turned, pattering up the stairs.
At the landing of the stairs, he opened his hand. In his palm lay several long, soft strands of black hair.
He then plucked a strand of hair from his own head and placed it with the others.
Watching Bai Su busy herself downstairs, a glint appeared in Bai Xiaolang’s eyes. He sneaked over to the public phone on the orphanage’s second floor and made a call to Lu Tingyan. "Come pick me up in a bit. I need to go to the hospital."
Bai Xiaolang trimmed Bai Su’s hairs until they were about the same length as his own.
Just as Bai Xiaolang had instructed, Lu Tingyan parked his car at the foot of the mountain.
While the shop was busy, Bai Xiaolang slipped out the back door, scurried down the mountain, and deftly climbed into Lu Tingyan’s car. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
He raised an eyebrow. "Why are you going to the hospital? Are you not feeling well somewhere?"
Bai Xiaolang tossed Bai Su’s hair to him. "I secretly took these hairs from your clothes. Didn’t you say you suspected I was your son? Fine, let’s go to the hospital and get a paternity test."
The corner of Lu Tingyan’s mouth twitched. "There’s no need. I already had a test done with your hair. You are indeed my son."
A glint appeared in Bai Xiaolang’s eyes, and he turned his face away coldly. "Your test doesn’t count. We’re doing it again. I want to witness the process and see the results myself, to make sure you don’t cheat."
His hand, gripping the seatbelt, tightened slightly, betraying a hint of nervousness.
Lu Tingyan just assumed his complex feelings were because he couldn’t accept the sudden appearance of a father and didn’t think much more of it. "Alright."
Bai Xiaolang secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
When they arrived at the hospital, Bai Xiaolang personally handed the two hair samples to the doctor.
The little guy, barely tall enough to reach their hips, had a serious and composed expression on his face, which thoroughly amused the doctors and nurses. They couldn’t stop themselves from wanting to squish his pale, tender little cheeks and his cute, fluffy ears.
The Federation’s technology was advanced; the paternity test results were ready in less than ten minutes.
Bai Xiaolang blocked the entrance to the doctor’s office, preventing Lu Tingyan from entering. "You wait for me at the door. I’ll go in and ask the doctor myself."
Lu Tingyan: "?"
Bai Xiaolang: "To keep you from using your eyes to threaten the doctor into lying for you!"
The corner of Lu Tingyan’s mouth twitched. "I have no interest in fabricating such a clumsy lie for someone who isn’t even my biological son."
"Anyway, you’re not allowed inside!" With that, Bai Xiaolang went into the office himself, shutting Lu Tingyan outside the door.
He quickly scrambled onto the chair opposite the doctor’s desk and sat down obediently. "Doctor, how is it? Are we biologically related?"
The doctor looked at the report in his hand and said, a little strangely, "You are biologically related, yes, but this genetic test is wrong... Isn’t Major General Lu a Snow Wolf? And a male? This genetic profile..."
Bai Xiaolang only heard the first sentence. He instantly clambered onto the desk and grabbed the doctor by the collar. "Biologically related?! Really, truly biologically related?!"
The doctor, startled by him, nodded numbly. "Yes, biologically related. Of course, you are. The test report says so in black and white. But... did you perhaps bring your mother’s hair by mistake? This..."
Bai Xiaolang cheered and jumped for joy on the spot, his mouth grinning from ear to ear.
The door creaked open. Lu Tingyan stood at the entrance, arms crossed. "So excited to be my son?"
Bai Xiaolang’s smile vanished. He shot Lu Tingyan a disdainful look. "What’s it to you?"
Bai Xiaolang scrambled down from the desk and snorted coldly at Lu Tingyan. "Wait for me, I’m going to the restroom."
Lu Tingyan, of course, had no objection.
Bai Xiaolang went to the restroom and soon noticed Lu Tingyan’s adjutant, Yodel, secretly following him.
A trace of disdain flashed in the little guy’s eyes. After entering the restroom, he used his small frame to climb out the window of another stall. His expression was grim and steady, a stark contrast to the innocent cheerfulness he’d shown in the office moments before.
He crouched to the ground and sniffed, following the scent from before until he found the laboratory.
The people in the lab were busy at work.
Bai Xiaolang used his Level 5 Skill, "Absolute Invisibility," to enter the lab.
This was a skill he had comprehended a few days ago. After eating Bai Su’s food, his body had gradually recovered, allowing him to awaken the Invisibility skill. He even showed faint signs of breaking through to Level 6.
Once inside the lab, Bai Xiaolang followed the scent to find the hair samples left on the analysis bench that hadn’t been put away yet. He silently swapped Bai Su’s lock of hair for one of Lu Tingyan’s.
After doing all this, he turned and left.
His current Level wasn’t high enough, and he wasn’t proficient enough with his Invisibility skill; it could only be maintained for a brief thirty seconds.
After swapping the hair, he made his way back to the restroom stall through the ventilation ducts.
’He knew that big scoundrel, Lu Tingyan, was surely very suspicious. The doctor would definitely tell him about today’s test results.’
’As long as Lu Tingyan ran the test again, he would notice something was amiss.’
’He had swapped the hair precisely to prevent Lu Tingyan from investigating Bai Su.’
’He was the only one who needed to know the previous result.’
’If they re-tested it, the doctor would just think his assistant had grabbed the wrong test report.’
Bai Xiaolang stayed in the restroom for a good while before coming out.
Lu Tingyan was in the office talking to the doctor, his brow furrowed so deeply you could kill a fly in the crease.
The doctor’s demeanor was animated as if he were trying hard to explain something.
Bai Xiaolang cleared his throat and pushed the door open. "Major General Lu, what are you doing?"
A glint appeared in Lu Tingyan’s eyes. "Nothing. Since the results are out and you know them, are you satisfied now? Let’s go."
Bai Xiaolang didn’t say anything and followed him out of the hospital and into the car.
Lu Tingyan: "The fact that you are my son is beyond doubt."
Bai Xiaolang: "Whatever. It doesn’t stop me from not acknowledging you as my dad."
Lu Tingyan: "..."
Bai Xiaolang: "My only home is the orphanage, and my only family is Director-Mom. Don’t even think about tearing us apart."
"Tear you apart?" Lu Tingyan looked at him, his gaze holding an unreadable meaning. "How do you know I’m here to tear you apart, and not to join you?"
"Oh, no difference. You’re not welcome." Bai Xiaolang was completely unyielding.
Lu Tingyan pinched the bridge of his nose. "Is Bai Su really that great? Weren’t you scheming to drive her away before? That time at the mountaintop orphanage, I saw right through you."
