Chapter 53: Chapter 53: Bai Su Reaches Level 4

Bai Su didn’t feel like talking anymore. She just lay down on the bed, closed her eyes, and began to absorb spiritual power.

Now that she knew the children were her own cubs, at least she wasn’t completely in the dark.

In the original story, the children and their mother went to their graves without ever knowing they were related by blood.

Quick as a flash, Bai Xiaolang clamped a hand over his mouth. "But we didn’t eat it! Mama, we’re hungry. We want to eat your cooking..."

Bai Su was instantly wracked with guilt. "Okay, okay, I’ll go make you something right now. Just tell me what you want to eat!"

Bai Xiaolang winked at Bai Xiaoshe. Behind them, the little cat cubs and Little Tiger snickered.

Holding the children, Bai Su hurried to the kitchen, rolled up her sleeves, and started preparing their food.

Bai Xiaoshe watched her bustling figure from behind. He opened his mouth to speak several times, but always ended up silently closing it.

Watching from the side, Bai Xiaolang covered his mouth to stifle a laugh and called out to Bai Su, "Mama, Little Snake wants those hot and sour quail eggs you made last time! He loves all kinds of eggs!"

A flash of embarrassment crossed Bai Xiaoshe’s face. He quickly blurted out, "I do not!"

He shot an angry glare at Bai Xiaolang before looking back at Bai Su, as if trying to salvage the situation. "Make it or don’t, I don’t care. Anyway, I... I can just eat the canned food!"

Bai Su couldn’t help but laugh. "Alright then, I won’t make the quail eggs. We’re out of eggs anyway."

A flicker of disappointment crossed Bai Xiaoshe’s eyes, but he forced a calm expression and turned his head to the side to sulk.

Bai Su brought mouth-watering chicken, lemon shrimp balls, and sweet and sour pork ribs to the table. They were mostly Bai Xiaolang’s favorites, and she had made generous portions of each, serving them in large bowls.

Standing to the side, Bai Xiaoshe couldn’t help but feel aggrieved.

Bai Su suddenly leaned over and kissed his cheek. "Alright, don’t be angry anymore. Look, what’s this?"

She placed a bowl of prepared hot and sour quail eggs on the table, right in front of him.

"Wow!" Bai Xiaoshe’s mood brightened instantly. His eyes sparkled as he stared at the big bowl of quail eggs, his face beaming with excitement.

When he noticed Bai Xiaolang and Bai Su watching him, his face flushed red. He forced himself to sit down calmly. "Hmph... I-It’s not like I care about them."

Bai Su said, "But I made so many. It’ll be such a waste if you don’t eat them. Could you help me eat a few, please?"

Bai Xiaoshe barely managed to suppress the smile tugging at his lips. "Well, fine," he said, feigning reluctance.

The little cat cubs and Little Tiger also washed their hands and got to the table. They sat excitedly in their chairs, waving their arms and legs, looking just like baby birds in a nest, chirping to be fed.

Bai Su then brought out the rest of the dishes: steamed fish with scallion oil, curry beef brisket, lotus leaf chicken, and soy-marinated beef.

Suddenly, a small scratch on Bai Xiaolang’s neck caught her eye.

Bai Su leaned in closer, her brow furrowed slightly. "Little Wolf, what happened to your neck? Did something scratch you?"

A guilty look flashed in Bai Xiaolang’s eyes as he quickly covered his neck. "Oh... probably a mosquito bite. I must have scratched it by accident."

Bai Xiaoshe glanced at him, but when Bai Xiaolang shot him a sharp, warning look, he silently shut his mouth.

Seeing this, Bai Su’s heart ached even more. "This is all my fault. I’ve been so neglectful of you. Tonight, I’ll bring some incense to your room. Burn some of it to repel the mosquitoes."

Bai Xiaolang nodded obediently. "Thank you, Mama."

Bai Su ruffled his hair. "My little cubs are still so small and frail. You need your mama to look after you."

Just as they were all about to dig in, a knock suddenly came from the door.

Bai Su froze for a second, then got up to open the door. She saw Bai Ruxin standing there with a Lion Beastman.

They did not look friendly.

’Strictly speaking, Bai Ruxin was her aunt.’

In her memory, Bai Su was a huge, fat girl who struggled just to walk. Her thighs had been thicker than Bai Ruxin’s waist, her features were squashed by rolls of fat, and her chin was so thick she resembled a Hippo Beastman.

But the female before her had almond-shaped eyes and rosy cheeks, skin whiter than snow, and lips as red as cherries. The way her eyes moved held an alluring charm she seemed completely unaware of. She was a completely different person from the one in Bai Ruxin’s memory.

Aside from her voice, there was almost no resemblance whatsoever!
