 The third incarnation was somewhat an exception as Randy found out that they seemed to lack a definite persona, or rather the persona they exhibited was too robotic and apathetic. As avatars, they represent his will. In the future, when they find themselves in danger, he could sense it through feedback and determine whether to intervene at any given time.
 That would ensure the safety of his avatars overall. With the addition of the sentient tome and its support function, he could effectively aid them without showing his face unless absolutely necessary.
