Born as a Witch
Chapter 444: Crystal Planet
The morning sunlight filtered gently through the Grove, casting long shadows from the Spirit Tree’s massive roots. Lira had been tending to her newly planted saplings, humming softly as she checked the delicate leaves and roots, when a shimmer caught her eye.
The portal, quiet for so long, quivered faintly in the distance — a gentle ripple at first, like sunlight dancing across water. But the shimmer grew, pulsing with a strange, urgent rhythm. Lira froze, feeling a tug in her chest she had never experienced before.
From deep within the trunk of the Great Spirit Tree, a voice rumbled, low and wise, echoing through the Grove:
"Lira... another world calls for you. The threads stir beyond your own."
Lira leaned closer to the portal, curiosity and anticipation fighting against the cautious part of her mind. Even without star dust, without any preparations, she could feel the pull — stronger than any she had experienced before. It was a gentle tug at first, then insistent, as though the world itself wanted her to step forward.
"Another world..." she whispered, her hand hovering over the shimmering surface. The air around it tingled, alive with energy, and for a moment, she could feel the faint heartbeat of a distant land calling to her.
Renkai approached quietly, sensing the tension. "Lira... are you feeling that?"
She nodded, eyes fixed on the shimmering portal. "Yes... something’s different this time. It’s... urgent. I can’t explain it, but it’s pulling me in."
Rose, who had been tending the herbs nearby, looked up with wide eyes. "Be careful... the last time the portal shimmered, it was unpredictable."
"I know," Lira said softly, feeling the hum of energy through her veins. "But... I have to see. Something is happening there, and I think it’s important. Even without star dust, it’s calling me."
The Great Spirit Tree’s branches swayed slightly, as if nodding in encouragement. "Trust your instincts, child. But remember — the threads are delicate. This call will test not only your strength, but your choices."
Lira took a deep breath, feeling the weight of responsibility and the thrill of adventure mingling in her chest. Her companions watched silently, their presence grounding her as she stepped closer to the shimmering portal. The pull deepened, enveloping her senses, and for a fleeting moment, the Grove seemed to fall away, replaced by the unknown.
She tightened her grip on Renkai’s hand. "Ready?"
He nodded firmly, eyes full of trust and determination. "Always."
With one final glance at the familiar greenery of the Grove, Lira stepped forward. The shimmer engulfed her, bright and warm, and the pull of the other world carried her away — toward adventure, danger, and discoveries beyond anything she had yet imagined.
...
The brightness hit them like a wave. Lira squinted, shielding her eyes with her hand, while Renkai crouched beside her, blinking furiously. The hard ground beneath them felt unfamiliar, rough with sharp edges that glimmered in the intense light.
When Lira finally lowered her arm, the sight before her stole her breath. Every surface sparkled and refracted the light in a thousand colors. Crystalline structures jutted from the floor and ceiling like natural towers. The walls shimmered with embedded minerals, veins of gold, amethyst, and jade running in impossible patterns. Even the air seemed to hum softly, vibrating as though charged with the energy of the world itself.
"This... where are we?" Renkai muttered, his voice low, half in awe, half in caution.
Lira shook her head slowly, her eyes wide as she took in the strange beauty. "I don’t know... it feels like... everything here is alive," she whispered. She bent down, running her fingers over a crystal jutting from the floor. Warmth radiated from it, tingling through her palm. "Even the minerals... there’s energy in them. Elemental energy, I think."
Around them, smaller shards floated in midair, spinning gently like slow snowflakes, catching the light in kaleidoscopic patterns. The space itself seemed impossible — cavernous, yet open to what felt like a vast sky above, though it shimmered like a liquid crystal dome.
Renkai helped Lira to her feet, his eyes scanning the area for danger. "Stay close. This is... unlike anything we’ve ever seen."
A soft voice echoed around them, neither male nor female, resonating with the hum of the minerals. "Welcome, travelers. You have crossed into the Realm of Shimmering Threads."
Lira and Renkai exchanged a glance. Lira felt a thrill running down her spine. The pull of the portal had been strong for a reason — and now she understood why. This world was unlike any she had visited, filled with energy, life, and possibilities she could barely imagine.
She knelt down again, touching the nearest crystal. Her elemental senses tingled, connecting with the raw energy flowing through the stones. It was powerful, pure, and strange — different from anything she had felt in the Grove or on the portal paths. She could feel potential for growth, for learning, and for creation.
Renkai crouched beside her, watching silently. "Are we... safe?" he asked.
"For now," Lira said cautiously, standing and brushing off her clothes. "But something tells me we were brought here for a reason. This world... it’s calling us. And whatever it wants, it’s going to be a test."
Above them, the crystals pulsed faintly, as though acknowledging her words. Lira inhaled deeply, feeling the hum in her chest match the rhythm of the shimmering world around them. She smiled slightly at Renkai. "Ready for another adventure?"
Renkai nodded, gripping her hand. "Always."
And together, they began to step forward, into the dazzling, mineral-born world that had awaited them beyond the portal.
...
Lira and Renkai stepped cautiously over the glittering ground, their boots crunching softly against shards of broken crystal. The brightness was still strong, but their eyes were adjusting. All around them, trees—if they could even be called that—rose from the mineral floor. Some were spiky, jagged and sharp, like giant shards of quartz thrust into the sky. Others were circular, spiraling like stacked rings of crystal that refracted light into small rainbows. A few were cube-shaped, perfectly symmetrical, looking more like sculptures than living things.
Lira stopped in awe, running a hand along one of the spiky trunks. It hummed faintly at her touch, vibrating with energy she could sense with her elemental magic. "These... they’re alive," she whispered, more to herself than to Renkai. "Not like normal plants, but... they respond."
Renkai crouched beside a circular tree, running his fingers along its smooth rings. "I’ve never seen anything like this. How can they grow like... crystals?"
Lira’s eyes sparkled with excitement. "I don’t know... but I want to learn. Maybe there are seeds, or energy patterns we can take back to the Grove." She looked around, scanning the ground carefully. Between the crystal roots, she spotted small glowing orbs, pulsing gently. They seemed like fruits or pods, but their radiance made them feel almost magical.
A sudden chirp echoed from above. Lira looked up and froze. Small creatures flitted between the crystalline branches—tiny beings with translucent wings, bodies glowing faintly like the crystals themselves. They darted quickly, curious but cautious. One hovered near Lira, inspecting her closely before zipping off.
Renkai whispered, "They’re... beautiful, but watch your step. The ground here is unstable in places." He pointed to a patch where crystal shards jutted sharply, forming an uneven maze. One wrong move and they could easily get cut.
As they continued walking, Lira couldn’t resist touching everything. She pressed her hands against a cube-shaped tree, feeling its energy pulse through her. Sparks of warmth and life ran along her fingertips. "This is incredible," she breathed. "I can feel the essence of this world... it’s like the crystals themselves are a form of magic."
Renkai laughed softly, shaking his head. "I thought the Grove was magical... but this... this is something else entirely."
They walked further, discovering new formations at every turn. Some crystal trees bent and twisted in impossible angles, forming natural tunnels that refracted light into dazzling beams. Others were hollowed out like houses, with glowing interiors that hinted at life inside.
Lira paused by one particularly tall, spiky tree. Small orbs of crystal littered the base, glowing in soft purples and blues. She carefully picked one up, feeling its warmth in her palm. "This could be used for potions," she murmured. "Or... maybe even a new kind of growth for the Grove."
Renkai watched her quietly, noting the way her eyes shone with curiosity and wonder. "Just don’t overdo it," he said softly. "We still don’t know the dangers here."
Lira nodded, placing the orb gently into her satchel. She looked around, taking in the forest. Every tree, every crystal, every tiny glowing creature—it was a world unlike anything she had ever seen. And the pull that had brought them here felt stronger now, urging her forward.
"Come on," she said, tugging Renkai gently. "We need to explore more. There’s so much to understand, and I can feel there’s something waiting for us deeper in this forest."
Together, they stepped further into the crystalline forest, unaware of the soft, watchful eyes hidden in the shimmering branches above—creatures curious, cautious... and perhaps protective of their strange, radiant home.
