Chapter 20: To The Residence of Giants! Part-2.
The journey through the darkness of the night was extremely nerve-wracking and intense.
Not only did Zephyr have to occasionally stop every half an hour to thoroughly check the area in front for threats, but he also had to keep rechecking behind himself just to prevent some bizarre monster from stalking him.
Zephyr knew that if laser beams can rain in this place and even piranhas can fly, then any kind of bizarre phenomenon is possible.
Some stalking predatory monsters tailing behind him for kilometers is not a far-fetched delusion; it is very much possible.
’Just thinking about that gives me the creeps...’
Furthermore, he had to keep an eye on the star constellation in the sky, so stopping once in a while was necessary for him.
The threat of monsters was indeed big, but the environment itself was also a major issue in this place.
Not only was the entire desert covered in ash, but the air was also polluted and impure; breathing too much of it was harmful for the human body and could lead to severe lung problems.
And that wasn’t even the biggest problem.
Zephyr’s biggest worry, though, was the possibility of encountering toxic gases.
His body was very strong and highly resistant to physical damage, but if he encountered poisonous gases that could easily ignore his external defensive capabilities, it would be game over for him right there.
’Only after coming to this world do those ugly gas masks seem to look cuter to me now...’
’Sigh... It would have been so much better if I had one of them with me at the moment...’
Although he hadn’t encountered any toxic gases as of yet, even if there was just a small chance of encountering them, Zephyr did not want to gamble on it.
His luck was already in the negatives, and he wasn’t sure when the goddess of luck, who hated him so much, might throw another disaster at him, so he wanted to be prepared for it.
Alas, in this empty desert where even tenacious creatures like mosquitoes and cockroaches couldn’t survive, Zephyr had no way of finding supplies that could help him overcome disasters.
All he could do was stay vigilant and move with extreme caution.
’I seriously would have collapsed from stress and brain overload after just a few hours if not for my enhanced body...’
Keeping a vigilant eye on everything around yourself is a very stressful and exhausting task, and normal humans can only do it for a few minutes at most before letting their guard down.
Only trained specialists like special forces’ commandos can do this kind of intense, mind-shattering work without getting tired for days!
Although Zephyr now had physical capabilities far beyond any human being, he was still just a normal civilian in terms of mental capabilities and had never trained for survival situations like these.
’This game world is really sinister... thankfully Mr. Question Mark gave me their blessing or I would have joined the list of dead players long ago after being thrown in this abominable sea of ash!’
Monsters and environmental issues weren’t the only things troubling Zephyr, though.
His main issue at the moment was reaching the residence of giants before morning came.
Once it’s morning, a new photon worm bombardment will start instantly, and right now, Zephyr does not have any more snake monster meat to stack new buffs upon himself.
[Blue_eyed_sea_otter: I am genuinely surprised that the anchor is able to keep moving without flinching even once... if it was me, I would have become paralyzed from fear due to the dark and gloomy environment of the area...]
[Rolling_Crocodile: Indeed, there’s no knowing what might jump out of the darkness and start attacking you out of nowhere... The anchor has balls of steel to be able to keep moving in such an eery, quiet, and dark environment...]
[Invincible_Bob: I slept early today just to see my invincible Tank God, and I am overjoyed to see he’s still struggling hard and hasn’t lost hope of survival! Keep Fighting! All hail the Mighty Tank God!]
Without realizing, it had already been more than a day since Zephyr came to this world, and people that had gone offline in the morning were once again starting to appear in the stream!
Looking at the familiar names chatting with each other in the comment section, Zephyr felt much more relieved and less lonely in this dead silent land of death and horror.
*Step!* *Step!*
Just as the number of people in the livestream started to increase, Zephyr suddenly noticed that the sound of his own footsteps changed abruptly.
He stopped in his tracks immediately and squatted down to examine the ash beneath his feet, but he found nothing odd.
’That’s strange... The sound my footsteps made just now seemed louder, as if I had stepped on some solid surface, but the ash beneath my feet is still the same loose and uneven...’
’Then why the sudden change-’
As if to answer Zephyr’s question, a faint distant sound entered Zephyr’s sensitive ears, causing all of his danger senses to become active in an instant!
*REEREREREHEKEKEKEKEKEKEREREEREKEKEKEK!!!*
The sound was very uncomfortable to the ears; it was as if someone were scratching on a chalkboard with their nails and were making a very irritating noise on purpose.
"It’s getting closer?..."
A look of doubt appeared on Zephyr’s face for a second, but it didn’t take long for him to realize the severity of the situation.
The sound was getting clearer and clearer as seconds went by, clearly showing that whatever was producing those weird noises was approaching him.
[Perfect Stealth!]
Zephyr did not dare to take a risk and immediately lay down on the ground before covering himself with the big shield.
He only left a small space open to see what was coming, and sure enough, something really did come flying in his direction; it was not a snake monster, and it was not a flying orb-type piranha group.
It was a completely new monster that Zephyr had never seen before!
