Chapter 43: Corridor of Broken Dreams. Part-3.

With the help of his inhuman physique, Zephyr moved fast, endured tremendous pressure, and managed to cross half of the corridor in just a few minutes.

But those few minutes felt like an eternity.

Aside from the voices and the powerful mental attack waves bombarding the entire corridor, one of the greatest reasons why Zephyr felt eager to leave fast was the fact that he could sense hundreds of presences in that place.

Although Zephyr’s skill ’Perfect Combat Sense’ gave him the ability to be immune to fear and mental attacks in most cases, Zephyr also had the ability to sense presences due to this skill’s effects.

And because of having such good perception, Zephyr could feel extremely powerful presences everywhere around him in that dark corridor.

Every time he disobeyed the entity trying to influence his mind, those powerful and distorted presences got one step closer to him for some reason, and the pressure on him increased.

It was a nerve-wracking experience that Zephyr certainly didn’t want to experience ever again.

’Sigh... I wonder how long this corridor is...’

Zephyr didn’t know that he had completed only about half of the corridor as of yet, and things were about to get even more tricky from here onwards.

*Tak* *tak* *tak* *tak*

’This voice again... and it’s much closer this time!’

Zephyr suddenly felt danger in his heart, and his instincts screamed at him to step aside.

Without hesitation Zephyr jumped away from the spot he was standing on and rolled aside toward the wall on the left!

*SHMMMMM!!!!!!*

A water droplet-shaped object the size of a car came flying and crashed straight on the spot that Zephyr was at earlier.

*Splash!* *Sizzle!* *Sizzle!!*

The dark object turned out to be some kind of acidic liquid, and the moment it touched the ground, a massive crater was formed as the ground was evaporated almost instantly by that insanely potent acid!

But to Zephyr’s shock, the crater in the ground healed on its own almost immediately!

It was as if a crater was never even made in that place and it was all just an illusion; the crater faded away out of existence on its own, and the ground reverted back to its form instantly!

If not for the fact that Zephyr was immune to mental attack, he might have even thought that what he saw was likely just an illusion or a hallucination.

But as his mind was in perfectly fine condition and he was immune to being influenced by illusions, he likely didn’t see anything wrong.

There was something that had fired a strange acidic liquid at him.

’The aura of that acid was strange... similar to the monsters I saw outside in the sea of ash... could it be that there’s miasma mixed in that acidic liquid?’

’If that’s true, I can’t let that acid even graze me slightly or it would be game over for me...’

Xinran had already told Zephyr that miasma was an extremely potent power that could corrupt anyone and make them its pawn.

Zephyr knew that his body was strong, but he was likely not strong enough as of yet to be taking gambles against miasma and corruption!

He was just a normal human being; just a small bit of miasma would rupture his body apart from inside out!

*Tak!* *Tak!* *Tak!* *Tak!*

The voice appeared again, but this time the acid attack didn’t happen; instead, the voice seemed to have come even closer as it was getting clearer and clearer with each passing second.

’It’s coming from ahead where I need to go... ugh... I don’t have a good feeling about this...’

With a look of helplessness, Zephyr decided to keep using his stealth to the maximum as he got up from the ground, placed his back against the wall, and started moving very slowly and cautiously.

’The walls here are made up of bones of a powerful being; weaker monsters likely penetrate through them and can’t attack me by breaking them apart...’

’It would be much safer to stick to it and keep my eyes focused on the area around me...’

*Tak!* *Tak!* *Tak!* *Tak!*

As Zephyr moved forward at snail’s pace, the strange voice kept echoing in the dark corridor as the source of that noise drew closer and closer to Zephyr with each passing second until, eventually, Zephyr finally saw ’it.’

’Wtf is that thing!?’

From the darkness a creature that looked like a horribly disfigured fish stepped out.

The creature had weird skinny wooden legs that bent and moved in abstract forms, and every time they hit the ground, the noise of ’TAK’ would ring out.

The creature’s body looked like that of a fish, but there were hundreds of maggots constantly slithering around all over its nonexistent skin.

Muscles and bones were sticking out of the body everywhere, and internal organs were hanging in random places or were being dragged on the ground.

There were hundreds of eyeballs hanging like pendulums of a clock on the monster’s body!

Only its head resembled a fish; the rest of its body was disfigured to the point that it was impossible to comprehend what was going on with that creature.

Just looking at that creature was enough to upset a person’s stomach and cause severe vomiting.

Zephyr even felt his body tremble in sheer disgust from just the presence of that creature, and goosebumps appeared all over his body.

’Stay calm, don’t move, let it pass.’

Zephyr put a hand on his mouth to stop himself from making any noise, stuck himself to the wall like plaster, and remained motionless while using perfect stealth to the maximum.

*Tak* *Tak* *UUUUAAWWAAAGGHHH!!!*

The monster suddenly vomited a lot of water-droplet-shaped acid and shot it in all directions at random.

One of them barely missed Zephyr and almost blew his cover.

Thankfully the monster turned out to be blind with no sense of smell whatsoever; the only sense it had was sensing sound, and as Zephyr kept himself quiet the entire time, the monster couldn’t locate him and left soon after.

’Phew~ It finally left!’

Zephyr took a breath of relief as he wiped the sweat from his forehead and started moving again.

’I have no idea what that f*cked-up creature was, but I have no interest in knowing about it, so I must not think too much about it, or it might harm my mind. I just want to get some water and get the f*ck out of here!’

’I must be the most unlucky person in the world... just for some water I have to survive horrors beyond human comprehension on a daily basis... sigh...’
