Chapter 110

The moment the voice spoke, both Alex and Jade turned around almost immediately.

Standing there, several meters away under the heavy downpour, was a breathtaking woman dressed in black tactical police gear with the word S.W.A.T.

Rainwater slid down her fitted bulletproof vest while strands of brunette hair clung slightly to her cheeks. But what managed to stand out the most were her eyes.

They were like the purest shade of aquamarine that Alex had ever seen. They were so clear and sharp that it felt like a sin for a human to possess such beautiful eyes.

In her hand was a revolver, aimed directly at Alex’s chest. And behind her was more than fifteen heavily armed SWAT team that stood in the most perfect of formations with assault rifles raised toward them. Some of the officers looked pale beneath their helmet as their eyes flickered toward the totaled street around them with unease.

A car nearby looked like it had just been crushed with a hammer by a giant. The convenience store had two wide gaping hole like a commet had flown right through it. And what scared most of them out of their wits the most, was the craters on the ground! And the corpse of a Chinese man in the distance.

It was as obvious as hell that they had never seen anything remotely close to this in their entire lives. The beautiful female officer calmly swept her gaze across Alex and Jade before speaking in a firm and authoritative voice despite the chaos around them.

"Hands where I can see them! This is the police. You both are under arrest for suspected involvement in homicide and destruction of private property. As you can see, we already have you surrounded from all possible angles, so don’t even think of running."

"Just raise your hands high above your heads and follow us to the station quietly. Any resistance from both of you will be met with lethal force."

Several SWAT officers tightened their fingers around the trigger nervously. Ready to begin shooting if there was any resistance.

’Dammit!’ Alex couldn’t help but curse internally.

Even in his current exhausted state, he knew that he could still forcefully escape if he really wanted to. But the problem wasn’t him, it was Jade.

Right now she had most probably already exhausted nearly all of her primordial essence already. He didn’t know anything about Awakened’s body, and definitely didn’t know how long it took for them to recover most of their primordial essence.

And even if he tried healing her, or carrying her while escaping, there was a genuine chance that both of them would get riddled with tons of bullets midway.

Especially with those damn heavy caliber rifles! God! He hated when people were pointing those things at him.

And even if someway somehow, they managed to escape today, the entire city police force would begin hunting them down immediately afterward. That in itself would create endless problems for them.

Alex exhaled slowly as he continued reasoning with himself.

At the very least if he cooperated for now, the situation would still be infinitely better than being on the run, and watching his properties being confiscated.

Besides...there was still Nyx. That woman practically ruled a large part of the city’s underworld, together with the two other rulers. So he could bet on his life that she would most definitely have a lot of connections with powerful people capable of interfering with police matters.

Alex turned his head slightly toward Jade and said quietly.

"Just cooperate for now. Resisting in our current state will only make things worse. Besides I can assure you that I have a way to get us out of this mess."

Jade stared at him silently for two seconds. Then without arguing, she slowly raised both hands into the air.

The female officer’s face visibly relaxed after seeing that.

"Thanks for choosing to cooperate."

Several SWAT members cautiously approached them afterward. Even while handcuffing Alex, two of the officers looked really tensed, as though they were touching a sleeping tiger that could suddenly wake up at any moment and kill them.

Well... In a way, they weren’t wrong.

Soon both Alex and Jade were escorted into separate armoured police vehicles before the convoy quickly left the destroyed battlefield behind.

About thirty long minutes later.

Inside the interrogation room. Alex sat calmly on the metal chair with sturdy handcuffs restraining both of his wrist against the table. If he wanted to, he could easily break these damn things without breaking a sweat.

The room itself was small and cold. A single bright white light illuminated the entire area while rain continued tapping softly against the windows outside.

Meanwhile seated opposite him was the beautiful SWAT officer from earlier. Up close, Alex could tell she was even prettier than he initially thought her to be.

She looked like she was in her mid twenties with sharp facial features that could earn her a top spot in vogue’s magazine. Long brunette hair, that she had now arranged into a ponytail. And those ridiculously clear aquamarine eyes.

But right now her beautiful face looked irritated. She slapped several photographs onto the table with a loud bang.

"You mind explaining exactly what happened, Alex Walker?" She asked while crossing her arms.

Alex took a brief glance at the photos before leaning lazily against the chair.

"I won’t talk until I get my free phone call and lawyer. I have my rights. So unless you can do that, I’m not answering any thing."

The woman almost had the urge to pull at her hair. But she took a deep breath, and narrowed her eyes.

"You and your girlfriend destroyed half a street...."

Alex corrected immediately.

"I wish, but she’s not my girlfriend, beautiful."

The woman looked utterly unconvinced.

"Fine! You and your partner caused enough destruction to terrify an entire district. Several civilians almost died. We found a dead Chinese man, a damaged building, and witnesses claiming they saw people throwing lightning, jumping dozens of meters into the air, green forcefield, and loud shockwaves."

She leaned slightly closer and continued.

"So how about you stop playing games and start talking?"

"I told you, I would only talk till I get my free phone call and lawyer."

A vein bulged slightly at the woman’s forehead.

"I hope you do realize that your situation is extremely serious right now?"

"And you do realize that I still have the right to remain silent?" Alex replied lazily.

The woman stared at him for several long seconds with a red face, before she finally rubbed her forehead tiredly and stood up from the chair.

"You’re unbelievable!"

She grabbed the files angrily before exiting the interrogation room. Outside the hallway, several officers immediately looked toward her.

One of them was currently interrogating Jade inside another room. The brunette female officer walked over.

"Did the girl say anything?"

The male officer instantly shook his head wearily.

"Nope."

He looked disturbed just remembering it.

"Honestly ma’am... that girl is terrifying."

The brunette officer raised an eyebrow slightly and asked.

"Terrifying? What do you mean about that?"

The man swallowed dryly.

"She barely speaks. All she does is sit there staring at me with those cold eyes like she’s deciding whether to kill me or not."

Even recalling it now made chills crawl across his skin.

"And if I didn’t see everything with my own eyes earlier, I would have thought that all those witnesses were cookoo. A woman shooting lightning from her freaking palms, and a man jumping dozens of meters into the air like he’s some kind of superhero... Still feels unreal up till now."

The female officer didn’t say anything immediately. Because honestly? Even she still found today’s events difficult to fully process. It looked like a scene straight out of an action movie.

After a while, Alex was finally granted his one phone call. The moment the call connected, Nyx’s cold voice immediately echoed through the receiver.

"Who is this? You have exactly one minute to speak before I cut the call."

"It’s Alex. And long story short. I just got arrested for facing the people from the Kade’s."

There was a brief pause before Nyx spoke again.

"Did you tell the police anything?"

"No."

"Good."

"Now listen carefully. Don’t answer any questions no matter what they ask you. Just stay there quietly and wait. I’ll get you out of there soon."

After saying that the line disconnected immediately. Alex stared silently at the phone for a second before placing it back onto the table.

Afterward he simply leaned back into the chair and closed his eyes. Since Nyx said he shouldn’t say anything, then in the meantime it was best he might as well get some good quality rest.

But only a few minutes later, the interrogating room was suddenly yanked open again. But this time however, it wasn’t the female SWAT officer. Instead, it was the chief of police himself who walked inside nervously with sweat covering his forehead.

Behind him stood two figures. The first one was a tall man wearing a dark coat. Who Alex instantly recognized as the same Ascendant Realm Awakened he had encountered after his sweet revenge on Zack.

Standing beside him was a beautiful woman in her early thirties with long fiery red hair, and sharp mature features that made her look like a MILF. Even though she wasn’t releasing any pressure yet, Alex could still feel the same dangerous pressure he felt around the suited man, and the Chinese man in the previous timeline.

It was another Ascendant Realm expert.

The chief of police immediately looked toward the cops around and commanded.

"Everyone out this minute."

The officers blinked in confusion.

"Sir?"

"I said OUT!" The chief barked immediately.

"This matter no longer concerns ordinary law enforcement like us. The two of them are classified as special humans."

The officers quickly exited the room. Soon only Alex, the chief, and the two Awakeneds remained inside the room. The male Ascendant Realm expert looked toward Alex and squinted his eyes, before his expression changed to one of surprise.

"... It’s you."

The man sighed softly.

"I honestly never even expected that it would be you of all people and your partner that would be responsible for causing this level of destruction... Luckily no innocent civilians died."

He then folded his arms and continued speaking.

"The only casualties found at the scene were one dead Vanguard Realm Awakened and one unconscious Early Realm Awakened."

Alex chuckled weakly.

"So what now?"

The man looked directly into his eyes. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶

"From this moment onward, your case falls under our jurisdiction instead of the normal police force. And normally as you might have noticed Awakeneds are allowed to live however they want. Society itself makes certain exceptions for people with abilities since we need all the help we can get.. "

"But there is one iron clad rule." His voice turned colder. "Awakeneds are forbidden from killing people wantonly or causing massive public damage."

Alex suppressed a yawn while rubbing his eyes. The mental strain from time travelling was really exhausting. Besides the man, the beautiful mature woman mistook Alex’s unexpected behavior for disrespect and frowned deeply.

"How dare you not take this seriously?" She asked coldly.

And the very next second, a terrifying pressure suddenly exploded out of her body, causing the chief of police to instantly fall to his knees with blood leaking out of his nose.

Alex himself felt the massive weight crash onto his body. It felt like a damn mountain was pressing down on him. But still, he endured it.

The Ascendant man frowned almost immediately and said.

"Claire. Enough. Have you forgotten that there’s also a normal human in this room. Besides he holds a fairly high position."

The woman clicked her tongue irritably before retracting her aura, making the pressure vanish instantly.

The chief of police wiped his bleeding nose while breathing heavily to steady himself.

The male expert then sighed tiredly before continuing.

"Until our investigation is complete, both you and your partner will have to be detained temporarily."

Alex frowned slightly.

"Detained where?"

"Detained in special holding cells, specifically designed to keep Awakeneds below the Ascendant realm."

Before anybody could say anything the interrogation room door suddenly swung open forcefully. A police officer stumbled backward nervously.

"H-Hey! You can’t just walk in there, miss!"

But the person completely ignored him and walked forward. The sound of her heels echoed against the floor as Nyx calmly walked into the room. Behind her was Doris who was busy lazily chewing a gum while glancing around curiosly.

The moment Nyx entered, the entire atmosphere inside the room quietly changed. Today she wore a black coat that perfectly accentuated her curvy figure while her long midnight black hair flowed down her back. Her cold amber eyes swept across the room before landing directly on Alex, causing a hint of relief to flash within them.

The male Ascendant Realm Awakened immediately narrowed his eyes slightly and asked.

"What brings you here Miss Nyx? I thought you were supposed to be at home enjoying some warmth, instead of coming all the way out here through this heavy rain."

Nyx’s gaze remained fixed on Alex before she finally spoke.

"I’m here for my man."
