The moment Alex stepped inside, his eyes immediately landed on Nyx. Just like always, the woman looked breathtakingly beautiful.

She sat behind a massive executive desk wearing a dark form fitted business suit that perfectly highlighted her curvaceous figure. Her long black hair cascaded over one shoulder while her cold amber eyes were focused on some important looking documents spread across the desk.

Even while working, she radiated this overwhelming presence that spoke volumes about her status.

Andre even subconsciously lowered his gaze slightly. Meanwhile Nyx slowly looked up. The instant her eyes landed on Alex, they softened for a fraction of a second before they turned back to normal.

"So it’s you. I wasn’t expecting you to finally come to the company today. I assumed that you would be busy attending lectures."

Then she shifted her eyes toward Andre briefly before returning to Alex.

"So, who is the person beside you?"

"Firstly, this is Andre. And I would like to put him in the logistics department as the assistant manager."

Nyx leaned back against her chair and studied Andre closely. It was as if she was looking into his very soul. Andre managed to stand his ground, though a bead of sweat rolled down his neck.

"Are you sure about that? Listen, I know you now have the power to bring people since you’re technically a major shareholder with the largest shares, you’re even supposed to take on this chairperson position so that I can fully concentrate on my other companies but are you absolutely sure that this person can bring value to the company?"

"Yes I am absolutely and positively sure. He is someone with a lot of potential and I believe that it’ll be a waste to see that potential being given somewhere other than here."

Nyx calmly stared at him before finally letting out a sigh.

"Alright. Since you see some sort of potential in him, then fine. The logistics department has even been lacking a certain... discipline lately. If he is yours then he is BluePeak’s. Andre, go to the HR floor on the 30th and tell them I sent you personally. You will start your work officially as the assistant logistics manager tomorrow at eight in the morning, sharp. Do not make me regret listening to my man’s recommendation."

Andre bowed deeply, first to Nyx and then to Alex.

"Thank you chairwoman. Thank you, Mr Walker. I’ll make sure that I do this work to the best of my ability...."

Just as he was about to finish, Nyx’s cold voice suddenly cut through the room. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

"You are excused, Mr Andre. I have some private matters I wish to speak with Alex over here."

Andre immediately nodded.

"Of course."

He gave Alex one final grateful look before leaving the office quietly. The next moment the doors clicked shut, leaving Alex and Nyx all alone in the vast, silent office.

Nyx leaned her chin against her hand while staring at Alex with something that looked like... Amusement!

"So, care to explain why you decided to go start a massacre against the Black Mambas gang?"

"Wait, how did you know all about that?"

Nyx gave a small smile.

"Alex, there’s very little that happens in this city without me hearing whispers about it. But if you must know, then I’ll tell you... I have various spies stationed in most of the major gangs in this city. After all, I plan on using them to overthrow their leaders and add to my faction, thereby increasing my power in this city."

"Fortunately, one of my spies happened to be there when you were wreaking havoc in the Black Mambas hideout, though luckily, he was one of those people that managed to survive. And after you left, he managed to call and tell me about what my man had just done."

"Though thanks to your help even if you didn’t know it, I was able to easily salvage some very important loot from the Black Mambas and force all of them that survived to join my faction. As we speak, they are currently being trained to be loyal only to me."

Alex first looked at Nyx with a bit of shock before recovering. It was moments like this that never failed to surprise him of just how cunning Nyx was.

Just as he was about to say something, Nyx’s expression suddenly changed. Her brows furrowed and without any form of warning, she turned slightly and vomited into a nearby trash bin close to her table.

Watching her retch, Alex’s entire body suddenly stiffened like a deer caught in headlight.

’A woman suddenly vomiting early in the morning especially after having sex sometime ago could only mean one damn thing... Oh no.’

If he remembered correctly, in his previous life, Emily had started out exactly like this when she first became pregnant! So that meant Nyx might be pregnant with his child.

At first he wanted to dismiss it, but the fact that he had sex with her that night before he got his ass handed to him by Doris the next day served as some sort of proof that she might really be pregnant with his child.

’SYSTEM!’ Alex screamed in his mind with a mental voice filled with panic.

[What?! I was sleeping!]

The chibi immediately appeared on his shoulder with her tiny eyes wide, looking just as shocked as he was.

[A-Alex! Calm down! I... I don’t know! Maybe I made a mistake?!]

The chibi immediately sounded guilty.

[Look, human biology is complicated sometimes, okay?!]

Alex genuinely felt cold sweat forming on his forehead as he watched Nyx slowly straighten up while wiping her mouth with a handkerchief. She looked a bit pale.

No no no. Please no! This could not be happening!

Yes, as much as he would love to have his very own child especially after finding out painfully that in his past life those two kids from his stupid wife Emily were Zack’s children, Nyx would most definitely kill him if she finds out she might be pregnant.

After hesitating for several painful seconds, he finally forced himself to ask carefully.

"Nyx..." He started with a trembling voice as he took a tentative step toward her. He felt like he was approaching a time bomb. "Since... Since when did this start? The vomiting?"

Nyx leaned against her desk breathing heavily. She first looked at the wastebin with a look of pure disgust, before looking back at Alex with a confused face the moment she noticed his pale expression.

"Why do you look like you’ve just seen a ghost, Alex?" She asked indifferently, though her voice was still a tard bit on the weak side. "And about the vomit, I think it started today. The first time was about twenty minutes before you walked in."

Alex immediately felt his heart stop. Today! She started vomiting today! You know what? It was official. Nyx had a strong chance of being pregnant. Damnit! If he had known he would have used protection that night. He could imagine how angry Nyx would be when she found out. He could even see a big possibility of her sending her awakened subordinates to come kill him.

But then Nyx casually added.

"I guess it must have been something I ate yesterday." Nyx continued calmly. "Now that I think about it, that seafood dish that I ate last night before sleeping did taste slightly strange. I guess it had to do with the fact that it was a day old food since my chef left for a family emergency and I grabbed whatever was left in the fridge."

Alex stared at her without blinking as his brain began rebooting. Food poisoning?

’System.. could she be right? Is it really food poisoning?’

The chibi peeked through her fingers, looking hopeful.

[It’s... It’s highly possible! I mean it makes more sense than suddenly getting pregnant when she wasn’t in her ovulating window that night. I think the seafood must have gone a tiny bit bad]

Alex took a deep breath of relief as his heart rate slowly descended from heart attack levels to normal levels.

"Yeah," Alex muttered while wiping sweat from his forehead. "I guess eating all that day old seafood must have given you food poisoning. You should... uh... You should really get that checked out by your private doctor."

"No need. Since it’s just something as minor as food poisoning I think it’ll be better if an Awakened who’s technically a healing Awakened, heals me."

"But where are you going to find a healing.... Oh! You mean me? Okay, sure."

"But before I heal you I need you to trust me and close your eyes while keeping your mouth open."

"Why?" Nyx said while giving him a suspicious look.

"Just do it, please. I promise I won’t do anything weird, okay."

She continued to look at him suspiciously before complying with his demands.

’System, open the shop,’ Alex commanded mentally.

A translucent screen instantly popped into existence before his very eyes, visible only to him.

Immediately she drank it, she felt the dull pain in her stomach instantly disappear. Even the feeling of wanting to vomit had mysteriously vanished.

Nyx felt as good as new and looked at Alex with a surprising gaze.

"Your ability is really potent. But I thought that for an Awakened, all you just have to do is place your hand on the spot you want to heal? So why did I have to drink something?"
