Chapter 889: King Jingyao Is Going to Marry Lin Hua
"How could there be none?" Old Wang was quite indignant: "Jingchuan, do you see me as such an easygoing person?"
Well, Secretary Wang couldn’t say.
Old Wang was infuriated: "Jingchuan, does your silence mean you think I’m easygoing?"
The secretary immediately smiled along: "How could that be? You are the most respectful to women, and you are the one who defends Miss Lin the most now. Given the situation, naturally, you will care for and protect her."
These words seemed like a compliment, but in fact, they were speaking on behalf of Lin Hua. Wang Jingchuan knew well that Lin Hua probably didn’t have that intention; she just wanted to use Mr. Wang’s power to avenge Feng Sheng. She didn’t care about her own reputation and situation, and she likely never thought about marrying Mr. Wang.
Logically, a veteran like Wang Jingchuan would have long lost the sense of empathy, but the reason he could stay by King Jingyao’s side all these years was because he had some vigor that matched King Jingyao quite well in their cooperation, like softness complementing hardness.
Wang Jingchuan had known Lin Hua for a long time, understood that she had been waiting for many years, and Mr. Wang also quite admired her. He felt it was a pity for Mr. Wang to miss out on her. At this juncture, letting her go wouldn’t be... Moreover, he genuinely sympathized with such a woman; she was supposed to be happy.
After they chatted for a while, King Jingyao fell into silence, looking at himself in the mirror, and sighed quietly: "Jingchuan, if it were the past, I would have married Lin Hua without a second thought."
Secretary Wang, being very perceptive, instantly understood. This call wasn’t about emotions but a test. Mr. Wang was already considering marrying Lin Hua and giving up Jiang Chaoge, but he was probing at this small undercover agent for confirmation.
Wang Jingchuan had been following Little Gu for a few days. Although Little Gu never said much, he occasionally heard Secretary Tang whispering about a major project starting in Jiangcheng in the latter half of the year, involving an important medical project, which Professor Bo would be focusing on. Little Gu would also go there.
The secretary, being meticulous, pieced it together and understood the situation.
He felt fortunate and admired it even more.
Before he even reported, Mr. Wang came knocking. Mr. Wang made this mistake at just the right time.
Wang Jingchuan smiled serenely: "Mr. Wang, rest assured and focus on nurturing the marriage. As for your status and other matters, you have so many capable people around you; why worry about being constrained by the Jiang Family?"
King Jingyao’s hand trembled, wanting to pursue the topic, but being a stable person, and considering that little rascal, he stopped himself with resolve. Luckily, he received the assurance from Jingchuan, and Old Wang felt his blood boil—
He finally didn’t have to deal with that woman Jiang Chaoge anymore, although he couldn’t be too ruthless.
He’s incredibly smart. If Jingchuan suggested some potential with Xichen, he’d drag it out to cover his tracks, while with Lin Hua, he could start developing things in secret. After all, you needed at least a couple of weeks to cultivate feelings before getting married... (Old Wang didn’t feel rushed at all.)
After hanging up, Old Wang felt a bit pleased. His quick decision was also due to what that little bastard told him—that he sacrificed himself and let go of Lin Hua... Well, now he’d gotten her back.
Although a bit unscrupulous, he truly didn’t want to miss out.
Feeling invigorated, Old Wang left, putting on his watch while whistling as he went downstairs.
During breakfast, the household staff was exceptionally cautious. Noticing Mr. Wang in a good mood, they also caught a bit of the joy and became bolder, chatting with a cheerful touch.
King Jingyao set down the newspaper and smiled: "You’ve got quick news. Well, you’ve all worked hard these days; everyone will get two months’ extra salary. Record this generosity under Lin Hua’s account—she’s always been generous to you all."
One bold servant stepped forward, "Is Miss Lin going to be the mistress now?"
King Jingyao paused, then laughed: "You clever little thing."
He hesitated before saying, "Don’t scare her about future plans, and don’t spread it around—or I’ll have to skin you all."
The servants naturally agreed, becoming even more jubilant.
Mr. Wang treated people well and was generous. Initially, they thought Jiang Chaoge would become the mistress—something that worried them—but now with the amiable Lin Miss stepping in, how could they not be happy?
King Jingyao gave his instructions, and a clever servant said, "Of course, we won’t spread it. We never gossip about Mr. Wang’s affairs."
King Jingyao nodded in satisfaction, taking a sip of milk, and glanced upstairs, lowering his voice: "Don’t wake her; let her sleep a bit longer. Have her call me when she wakes up."
A servant held back laughter: "Yes, Mr. Wang."
King Jingyao looked at them, cleared his throat: "No special treatment; don’t scare her."
Finishing, he adjusted his tie. Initially, he was heading straight for the office but ended up going upstairs to the guest room instead.
Lin Hua was still asleep, in a deep slumber, wearing a man’s shirt.
He sat by the bed, silently watching her, noticing how much weight she’d lost. His heart ached, so he gently touched her cheek, giving a faint, bittersweet smile—
Although she lacked nothing financially, living with only her mother, and with Feng Sheng’s incident, her situation wasn’t good. She’d need some proper care ahead, to regain some weight.
After watching her for a while, he finally left for work, feeling content.
In the car, he closed his eyes for a nap, as he had been up late last night, only resting around three in the morning. Old Wang wasn’t young anymore, and as if short of disturbance, Madam Wang called.
King Jingyao lazily answered: "What’s the matter, Madam Wang, calling me this early?"
The other side, Madam Wang had heard the good news from Jingchuan but didn’t reveal it directly. "Jingyao, I had a dream last night—our family grew an iron tree at the entrance, and it bloomed, then in the morning, there were some joy birds outside. I thought your father and I had no such joy, so I’m asking if you have some good news."
King Jingyao listened to his mother make up the story and chuckled: "Did Madam Wang hear Jingchuan’s little report?"
Madam Wang feigned ignorance: "How could that be? Didn’t you dismiss Jingchuan?"
"Not at all; he’s loyal to two sides," King Jingyao lazily laughed, "Madam Wang surely got some news from him—Jingchuan’s very lively now."
Madam Wang took the opportunity: "Also, having spent much time with your sister, he’s not as stodgy anymore."
King Jingyao continued to chuckle, his voice low and steady. Madam Wang, knowing her son, sensed his genuine joy, causing her eyes to redden.
Madam Wang, strong all her life, knew her son was outstanding since childhood. Though she wasn’t indulgent, she felt her son deserved the best. Jiang Chaoge never matched up to her standards; she always favored Lin Hua, and as for Anxi, she’d scold her son for being old and improper.
