Kaden Xavier frowned.

Nathaniel Quinn was there, his face contorted with rage, his eyes blazing.

"Wren Wynter, did you do this? Cole..."

Spotting Kaden Xavier, Nathaniel Quinn was taken aback for a moment and reined in some of his aggression.

"What’s going on?" Kaden Xavier asked, his voice low.

Wren Wynter methodically put away the last needle, sterilized it, and placed it back in its case before turning to face him. "What is it that I’m supposed to have done?"

"Still playing dumb!" Nathaniel Quinn’s face flushed with anger. "Did you call the police on me? Did you have Finn Wynter pressure the Quinn Group? Wren Wynter, do you really think your lover can go up against me?"

"Cole, it’s a good thing you divorced a woman like her."

Kaden Xavier fixed his gaze on him. "What happened?"

"Cole, you don’t know?" Nathaniel Quinn turned to Kaden Xavier, looking as if he’d suffered a terrible injustice. "This vicious woman, she reported me to the police for assault! And now, all the projects we were collaborating on have been canceled."

Wren Wynter scoffed. "Nathaniel Quinn, don’t you know what you’ve done?"

"What did I do?" Nathaniel Quinn said, full of self-righteous bravado. "I was just playing a little joke on you, getting a bit of revenge for Seraphina! Do you have to be so petty?"

"A joke?" Wren Wynter stood up and walked toward Nathaniel Quinn, her steps firm and deliberate. "Injecting my aunt with an overdose of potassium chloride, causing her to go into cardiac arrest and nearly die... that’s what you call a joke? Petty?"

"In that case, perhaps I should play a little ’joke’ on you, too?"

She had always thought that while Nathaniel Quinn had a devil-may-care attitude, he was fundamentally a decent person with a moral compass.

But now, it was clear he was utterly merciless.

Hearing this, Kaden Xavier’s expression grew grim, his eyes darkening. "Nathaniel Quinn, how could you do something like that?"

Nathaniel Quinn’s eyes darted around, but his tone remained defiant. "Wren Wynter, stop making things up! I have no idea what you’re talking about..."

"You don’t?" Wren Wynter pulled out her phone and brought up last night’s security footage. "This is you, isn’t it? This watch... it’s the only one of its kind in all of Rivenport. Do you need me to pull up the purchase records?"

Nathaniel Quinn’s face went pale, but he refused to back down. "So what? I was just trying to scare you. Who knew your aunt was in such bad shape? Besides, she’s fine, isn’t she? They saved her, right?"

"Nathaniel Quinn!" Kaden Xavier barked. "You’re playing games with a person’s life? Don’t you know that’s against the law!"

"Cole, I..." Nathaniel Quinn panicked. "I was really just joking! Besides, her aunt’s fine, isn’t she? Didn’t Mason Shaw save her? It’s not like anyone actually died..."

Kaden Xavier took a deep breath and looked at Wren Wynter, his tone softening. "Wren, since she’s okay now, how about... you contact them to drop the case? Money is no object. After all, blowing this out of proportion won’t do anyone any good."

Wren Wynter stared at Kaden Xavier in disbelief, her eyes filled with disappointment. "Kaden Xavier, do you have any idea what you’re saying? How much money do you think a human life is worth? In your eyes, are the lives of ordinary people that cheap?"

She paused, her voice turning frigid. "If you insist on helping Nathaniel Quinn, then we’ll see you in court. We’ll die before we drop the charges."

Kaden Xavier had been raised from a young age to be the heir to the Xavier Family, taught to be ruthless.

He was not a soft-hearted man. In his eyes, any problem that could be solved with money wasn’t a real problem. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

But now, as he met Wren Wynter’s cold, beautiful eyes, he felt an inexplicable, sharp pang in his heart.

Kaden Xavier took a deep breath. "I’ll take him to turn himself in."

"Cole!" Nathaniel Quinn’s eyes flew open.

’We’re brothers! We grew up together! How can he send me to prison?’

"I already told you, I was just joking! And the woman didn’t even die!"

"Shut up!" Kaden Xavier snapped, shooting Nathaniel Quinn a cold glare. "I will personally answer to the victim and her family for what he has done."

"I hope you keep your word," Wren Wynter said, unmoved. She picked up her bag, ready to leave.

Just then, Finn Wynter walked in.

He was dressed in a perfectly tailored suit, his hair impeccably styled, exuding an aura of calm, formidable power.

His brow furrowed slightly upon seeing the scene in the hospital room, but he quickly regained his composure.

"Wren, it’s all been handled." Finn Wynter didn’t even glance at Kaden Xavier or Nathaniel Quinn, speaking directly to Wren. "The Quinn Group’s three main partners have formally terminated their contracts. Their other investors have all pulled out, and their bank loan application was rejected. Also, I discovered that the Quinn Group has been engaging in tax evasion for the last three years. I’ve already filed a formal report with the tax bureau under my name."

Nathaniel Quinn’s face paled. He pointed a trembling finger at Finn Wynter. "So it was you! You! You’ve gone too far! Cole, that’s him! He’s Wren’s lover!"

Finn Wynter finally turned to look at him, his gaze as cold as if he were staring at an insect. "Nathaniel Quinn, you still dare to slander Wren and me. I warned you to stay away from her. Since you’re courting death, don’t blame me for not holding back."

Nathaniel Quinn trembled with rage but was rendered speechless.

Finn Wynter’s gaze shifted to Kaden Xavier. "Mr. Xavier, I hear you want Wren to drop the charges?"

Kaden Xavier remained silent.

"I’d advise you to save your breath," Finn Wynter sneered. "Your Xavier Family may be rich and powerful, but our family is not to be trifled with. We will see this through to the very end."

He took Wren’s hand. "Wren, let’s go."

Just as they were about to leave, Nathaniel Quinn suddenly roared, "Then do it! I’m not afraid! Kill me if you’ve got the guts! I’m telling you, the Quinn Family is not to be messed with!"

Finn Wynter glanced back at him, his voice dripping with contempt. "Nathaniel Quinn, you should be more worried about your family’s company. If I’m not mistaken, by tomorrow morning, the Quinn Group’s stock will have hit its lower limit. As for you..."

"With conclusive evidence of assault, you can wait for your prison sentence."

With that, he led Wren Wynter out of the hospital room.

Nathaniel Quinn watched Wren and Finn Wynter’s retreating figures, so furious he was practically hopping mad.

"Cole, aren’t you going to do something about that woman?"

"What am I supposed to do? Wren and I are divorced."

Kaden Xavier’s reaction was indifferent.

He’d heard about what happened to Grace Wynter from the nurses at the front desk before he’d even arrived at the room. He had intended to offer Wren some words of comfort, never expecting Nathaniel Quinn to be the culprit.

"Cole!"

Nathaniel Quinn started to say more, but Kaden Xavier had already strode over to Old Madam Xavier’s bedside and sat down.

"Aren’t you curious about their relationship?"

Kaden Xavier said nothing.

"Cole, you’re not going to just abandon me, are you?"

Kaden Xavier remained silent.

Nathaniel Quinn’s friendly overture was met with a cold shoulder. Realizing he was making a fool of himself, he left in a sullen huff.

Before he left, he couldn’t resist one last parting shot. "Cole, are you really going to throw away our brotherhood for Wren Wynter and some nobody?"

Kaden Xavier rubbed the bridge of his nose. A moment later, he pulled his phone from his pocket and made a call.

"Find out who that man with Wren Wynter is."
