"Besides, Dr. Wynter’s acupuncture took so long, and Grandma still didn’t wake up. It’s possible this has something to do with her..."

Seraphina Sutton tried to pin all the blame on Wren Wynter.

Helen Sawyer swept a disdainful gaze over her and sneered, "Whatever you say about her, at least she didn’t make Grandma’s condition worse! If you don’t leave now, don’t blame me for getting rough."

With that, she shoved Seraphina Sutton out the door.

"Godmother..."

"Don’t you dare call me godmother again. I don’t have a daughter like you. You’re a jinx! Isn’t our family in enough chaos already?" Helen Sawyer bitterly regretted ever taking her in as a goddaughter.

’One won’t let me call him Kaden, the other won’t let me call her godmother. Why is everyone treating me like this?’

’How am I any worse than Wren Wynter?’

’In what way am I inferior to her?’

Seraphina Sutton’s hands gripped her purse tightly, the venom in her eyes impossible to conceal.

After kicking Seraphina Sutton out and returning to the hospital room, Helen Sawyer’s resentment toward her only intensified.

At first, she had been cordial to Seraphina since she was Asher Lynch’s wife, and had even taken her in as a goddaughter.

Who would have thought she would end up harming Old Madam Xavier.

Although she didn’t have much affection for Old Madam Xavier, it would still look bad if word got out.

Helen Sawyer’s phone rang.

She answered a call from Lana Xavier. It seemed to be something urgent, as she left the room in a great hurry.

At that moment, Seraphina Sutton appeared at the door.

She glanced at the unconscious Old Madam Xavier on the bed, took a deep breath, and walked back inside with her gift.

She placed the gift on the bedside table, sat by the bed, and took out a pair of nail clippers to trim Old Madam Xavier’s nails.

"Grandma Xavier, you probably don’t know this yet, do you? Kaden and Wren Wynter have signed divorce papers. Finalizing the divorce is just a matter of time. You can’t stop it. I know you don’t like me, but I will find a way to marry Kaden."

Seraphina Sutton’s lips curled up, a glimmer of shrewdness and longing in her eyes, as if she could already see herself in the midst of a crowd, being respectfully addressed as Mrs. Xavier.

’That position should have been mine from the start.’

’Kaden Xavier and I are in love. Why won’t anyone around us just let us be happy together?’

Seraphina Sutton busied herself around Old Madam Xavier for over half an hour, but Kaden Xavier never showed up. Gradually, her patience wore thin.

"Water..."

Suddenly, a weak and feeble groan came from the hospital bed.

Seraphina Sutton immediately stopped what she was doing and hurried to Old Madam Xavier’s side.

’She’s actually waking up now!’

Seraphina Sutton was overjoyed. She quickly pressed the call button to summon the nurses and doctors.

Helen Sawyer, who had left to take a call, returned just then. Seeing Seraphina Sutton, she immediately furrowed her brows and said with displeasure, "Why are you still here? Get out!"

"Godmother, Grandma’s awake!"

Seraphina Sutton ignored Helen Sawyer’s harsh words. Covering her mouth in excitement, her eyes welled up and her face twitched with emotion.

The moment Helen Sawyer heard Old Madam Xavier was awake, she rushed forward to check. To her surprise, she really had woken up.

The nurses and doctors who rushed in at the sound of the alarm also began examining Old Madam Xavier’s condition.

"Godmother, Grandma’s finally awake..."

"Heavens be praised, heavens be praised. My mother-in-law has finally woken up." Helen Sawyer clasped her hands in prayer. Then, as if remembering something, she called Kaden Xavier, who was at the office.

"Kaden, get to the hospital, your grandmother is awake!"

"Okay, I’m on my way."

The voice on the other end of the line sounded calm, but the joy within it was unmistakable.

Before long, Kaden Xavier arrived, only to find that Wren Wynter didn’t seem to be there.

"Where’s Wren?"

"Oh, you mean Dr. Wynter? She had surgery this morning. She’s still in the operating room and won’t be done for another half an hour."

Kaden Xavier nodded slightly.

The doctor carefully examined Old Madam Xavier’s condition.

"Mr. Xavier, Old Madam Xavier’s condition has stabilized for now. Generally speaking, once a patient regains consciousness, it’s a very good sign. There shouldn’t be any major issues."

"Okay, thank you." Kaden Xavier’s eyes burned, and he fought back his emotions as he nodded.

But then he remembered Wren Wynter saying that Old Madam Xavier didn’t have much time left, and a wave of melancholy washed over him.

’Perhaps, to extend Grandma’s life, I could ask Elder Hawthorne for help.’

The team of nurses and doctors left the room, leaving the three of them gathered around Old Madam Xavier’s bed.

"Why are you here?" Kaden Xavier asked, looking at Seraphina Sutton.

"I wanted to see Grandma. What happened last time was my fault. I didn’t understand the situation clearly. Kaden, I feel so guilty. I haven’t been able to sleep well at night, so I wanted to come and see if there was anything I could do to help."

Helen Sawyer crossed her arms and looked down at her. "We’d be lucky if you just didn’t make things worse. If it weren’t for that Miracle Doctor Wallace you brought last time, my mother-in-law would have recovered already."

"Godmother, I already explained. I was deceived too! I just had good intentions..." Seraphina Sutton’s eyes were red, tears welling up as she bit her lower lip pitifully. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

Seeing that the two were about to start arguing again, Kaden Xavier impatiently pinched the bridge of his nose. "That’s enough! Grandma just woke up. She needs to rest."

Seraphina Sutton fell silent. Helen Sawyer grumbled a few words under her breath but also tactfully shut up.

Half an hour later, Wren Wynter came out of the operating room. Hearing that Old Madam Xavier had woken up, she changed out of her scrubs and rushed to the Old Madam’s room.

"Grandma!"

Wren Wynter stopped at the doorway, breathless.

Old Madam Xavier was sitting up in bed, holding a glass of warm water.

"Wren, you’re here."

That long-unheard voice was like music from the heavens to Wren Wynter’s ears.

Her nose tingled, and fighting back tears, she threw herself into Old Madam Xavier’s arms. Her voice was muffled as she said, "Grandma, you’re finally awake! I was so worried about you."

To Wren Wynter, Old Madam Xavier was one of the few rays of light in the darkness.

When she was struggling to get by in the Xavier family, walking on thin ice, the old woman had been her rock, the one who gave her what little warmth she had.

If Kaden Xavier was her obsession within the Xavier family, then Old Madam Xavier was her attachment to it.

Old Madam Xavier lovingly stroked her hair. Her large, wrinkled hands were even thinner after her serious illness.

"Silly child, I made you worry. Grandma knows everything. You saved my life. Thank you."

Wren Wynter shook her head and looked up at that aged yet benevolent face. "Grandma, saving you is what I’m supposed to do. Let’s not say thank you, okay?"

"Alright, alright. Our Wren is the best."

Old Madam Xavier seemed to be in good spirits. Having just woken up, she didn’t appear to have any physical discomfort.

Watching the heartwarming interaction between the two, Kaden Xavier found his lips curling into a smile and his gaze softening.

Standing to the side, Seraphina Sutton ground her teeth in anger. ’I was the one taking care of Old Madam Xavier when she woke up! Why won’t she even spare me a single glance?’

"Wren, there’s something Grandma wants to discuss with you."

"What is it?"

"I’m not used to living in the hospital. I want to go back to the old residence tomorrow."

"No!" Wren Wynter refused decisively. "Grandma, you just woke up. There are still too many uncertainties. If any other complications arise, the hospital is the safest place to be."

"Dr. Wynter, how can you say that? Aren’t you just jinxing Grandma?"
