Ho-ran Park was dressed in a white lab coat. He was tall and slender, a little on the thin side, with a distinguished air. While not strikingly handsome, he had the kind of academic good looks that grew on you.

He waited quietly for Wren to finish crying before speaking, his voice gentle. "We never blamed you. You know how he is—a sharp tongue but a soft heart. The truth is, he’s been waiting for you to come back all these years."

Wren composed herself, took a deep breath, and said slowly, "Yes, I’ve made up my mind. As soon as I’ve dealt with things here, I’ll go back to him and apologize."

"I’ll go with you when the time comes." Ho-ran Park’s lips curved into a slight smile, his eyes full of affection.

"Okay, thank you." At his words, a warmth spread through Wren’s heart.

In her heart, her mentor and the others were like family. But she had once hurt them for someone who wasn’t worth it.

"Go on, get some rest. Let’s get you discharged as soon as possible."

"Okay."

She had just pulled the covers up when there was a knock at the door.

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK—

Joy Lynch and Crystal Nash came in.

Crystal Nash placed a fruit basket on the bedside table and asked with concern, "Wren, are you feeling any better?"

"I’m about to be discharged, and you still came all this way. Doesn’t your Hugh Hale keep you on a tight leash?"

Crystal’s expression froze for a moment before she forced a smile and said nonchalantly, "He’s busy. No time."

"Right, what lawyer isn’t busy?" Wren seemed to remember something and suddenly looked up at Ho-ran Park. "I forgot to ask, what are you doing at this hospital?"

"People from the Xavier Group kept coming to the lab, trying to invite our mentor for a consultation. But you know he doesn’t like to get involved in these things, so he sent me to check it out."

Wren nodded in understanding. That certainly sounded like her mentor.

Joy Lynch hurried over to Ho-ran Park and boldly took his hand. "I’m Wren’s best friend, Joy Lynch. I’m a flight surgeon, too."

Startled by Joy’s bold move, Ho-ran Park instinctively pulled his hand back, though his demeanor remained gentlemanly. "Hello."

Wren and Crystal exchanged a look, wishing they could pretend they didn’t know her.

But catching her best friend’s pleading look, Wren had no choice but to say, "Joy and Crystal are my best friends. Why don’t you exchange contact information? That way, if you can’t reach me, you can get in touch with her."

Joy secretly made a finger heart at Wren.

"Alright."

And just like that, Joy got Ho-ran Park’s contact information.

Crystal’s enchanting eyes curved slyly. She waved a hand and said, "I’ll pass. My man keeps a tight rein on me. If he found out, I’d have a lot of coaxing to do."

"Alright." Ho-ran Park nodded. "Wren, I have to get back to my department. I’ll come see you off when you’re discharged tomorrow."

"You go ahead and..." At a pleading gesture from Joy, Wren swallowed the rest of her sentence.

"You should call our mentor when you have a chance," Ho-ran Park added.

"I will."

She wonders if he’ll even pick up.

After Ho-ran Park left, Joy clutched her phone, her pretty face flushed with excitement. "Got it!"

"Joy, Ho-ran has never been in a relationship before," Wren reminded her. "So, you know, take it easy."

Ho-ran wasn’t the most handsome among her mentor’s students, but he was honest and kindhearted—someone you could truly trust.

"Don’t worry! The moment I saw him, I knew it was destiny!" Joy clasped her hands to her chest, looking just like a smitten fangirl.

"You’d better actually land him first, old girl!" Crystal said, flicking a lighter open and shut as she playfully threw cold water on the idea.

"There’s no one Joy Lynch can’t win over," Joy declared confidently.

Wren shook her head, exasperated.

The three of them chatted for a while longer before leaving.

The next morning, Wren packed her things and was discharged from the hospital.

When she got back to the villa, she found a pile of her things by the front door. They weren’t particularly valuable, but they were things she’d never been able to bring herself to throw away.

"Throw all this out. I don’t like these colors."

Just then, Seraphina Sutton’s voice drifted out from inside the villa.

Wren’s face fell. She dragged her suitcase and stormed into the villa. When she saw the mess Seraphina had made of the villa, a wave of fury washed over her, nearly taking her breath away.

"Who let you in here?" she asked, reining in her anger.

"Dr. Wynter, you’re back!"

Hearing Wren’s voice, Seraphina turned around with a faint smile. She moved to take Wren’s arm familiarly, but Wren pulled away.

"I asked you a question. Who let you in here?" Wren’s voice rose, her eyes turning colder.

Seraphina flinched, shrinking back. She weakly clutched her skirt, putting on a pitiful, wronged expression.

"Kaden was worried about me living alone. He said it wasn’t safe and told me to move in with you. If you mind, Dr. Wynter, I can just leave."

"Throw all this stuff out. And throw her out with it," Wren ordered the household staff, her voice cold. Her expression was surprisingly similar to Kaden Xavier’s.

Seraphina hadn’t expected Wren to be so ruthless. She scrambled to protect her belongings. "Dr. Wynter, Kaden was the one who told me to live here! You can’t kick me out!"

"Didn’t you just say you’d leave if I minded? How has this suddenly become me kicking you out?" Wren retorted without a shred of pity.

Seraphina’s face went pale, and she gripped the handle of her suitcase, humiliated and furious.

"Are you all deaf?"

This was the first time Wren had ever lost her temper with the staff.

The staff members exchanged glances, not daring to disobey Wren’s order. They hastily grabbed some of Seraphina’s luggage and started tossing it outside.

"Don’t throw them out! Stop! Kaden told me I could live here! What right do you have to throw my things out!" 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

Seraphina tried desperately to stop them, but she was outnumbered and couldn’t do anything by herself.

Suddenly, a voice cut through the argument.

"What is going on here!"

Kaden Xavier appeared in the doorway, his handsome face etched with a frosty expression.

When he saw Seraphina on the floor, his pupils constricted. He lunged forward, helped her to her feet, and pulled her behind him protectively.

"Kaden, it’s my fault. I shouldn’t have intruded on your life with Dr. Wynter. I’ll just go."

Seraphina started to drag her suitcase toward the door, tears streaming down her pale, innocent-looking cheeks.

"Seraphina, what are you talking about? And why are you here? Didn’t I have the driver take you to the apartment at Azure Dragon Bay? How did you end up here?"

Kaden put a hand on her suitcase, a look of confusion on his face.

"Pfft." Standing at the door to her room on the second floor, Wren couldn’t help but let out a laugh. "Looks like someone got ahead of herself. Did you really think you could just move in?"

Seraphina was mortified. She clenched her fists, so embarrassed she wanted the ground to swallow her whole. She looked up, forcing a smile at Wren. "Dr. Wynter, I’m sorry. I misunderstood. My apologies for the disturbance."

Seraphina snatched her suitcase back and walked around Kaden, heading for the door.

"Ma’am, what should we do with these things?"

"Throw it all out. Someone else touched it. I find it filthy."

"Wren!" Kaden snapped.

Seraphina’s already pale face went deathly white, and the sound of her sobs drifted in from outside.

"Wren, why do you always have to make things difficult for Seraphina?" Kaden’s lips were pressed into a thin line, his displeasure obvious.

"If you don’t want me to make things difficult for her, then stop parading her in front of me!" Wren bit out each word, leaving no room for compromise.

"My relationship with Seraphina isn’t what you think..."

Wren cut him off. "I don’t care. And you can get out too, Captain Xavier!"

As she spoke, she grabbed something off the floor and threw it at Kaden Xavier.

Not that kind of relationship! He was already arranging a place for her to live! What’s next? Is he going to be the father of her child? But she didn’t care anymore!
