Captain Xavier, Your Wife Has Signed the Divorce Papers
Chapter 20: I’m Going to Pursue You
The next day, Wren Wynter went to work as usual. She ran into Felix Vance just as she was walking into the airline building.
"Dr. Wynter, good morning!" Felix Vance greeted her with a smile.
Wren Wynter gave a faint nod in response.
"Dr. Wynter, you’re looking well today. Seems like you’ve fully recovered. I heard you were sick a few days ago, and I was so worried about you!" Felix caught up to her, falling into step beside her.
Wren remained silent, but Felix, walking beside her, didn’t seem to mind and continued to look for something to talk about.
"By the way, Dr. Wynter, what kind of food do you like? I know a great restaurant. Would you like to go check it out together this weekend?"
Wren stopped walking. With a faint, polite smile, she tactfully declined, "I’m sorry, Captain Vance, but I’ve been very busy lately. I don’t have the time."
"No problem, no problem. We can go whenever you have time, then." Felix asked with a cheerful grin, "So what are your hobbies? Watching movies? Shopping? Or something else?"
In response to his plainly obvious intentions, Wren’s pupils dilated slightly. She asked offhandedly, "Does Captain Xavier know you’re pursuing me?"
Felix answered truthfully, "He knows."
At that moment, Felix was completely unaware of the massive marital strife his words had just caused. By the time he found out, he would be regretting it to his very core.
Upon hearing this, a subtle ripple of emotion stirred beneath Wren’s calm exterior, and a scornful smile touched her lips.
If Kaden Xavier truly loved her, with that damnable possessiveness of his, there’s no way he would agree to let Felix pursue her.
What was she even humiliating herself for?
Masking the bitterness she felt, Wren maintained a proper smile. "Captain Vance, thank you for your interest, but I just want to focus on my work right now. I hope you find someone you’re fond of soon."
"Hey now, you need to have some work-life balance."
Felix was about to say more when Seraphina Sutton happened to walk over. When she saw Wren and Felix standing together and talking, a cryptic glint flashed in her eyes.
"Captain Vance, Dr. Wynter, good morning. You’re both here quite early," Seraphina Sutton said, glancing from Felix to Wren and back again. "Captain Vance, are you pursuing our Dr. Wynter?"
Felix didn’t shy away from it, admitting it openly. "That’s right! Starting today, I’m officially pursuing Dr. Wynter!"
The words had barely left his mouth when Kaden Xavier stepped out of the elevator. He overheard what Felix said, and his face instantly darkened.
He glanced at Wren and Felix. They weren’t standing particularly close, but Felix’s eager demeanor made him extremely uncomfortable.
"Kaden, you’re here." Seraphina Sutton walked over to Kaden Xavier as soon as she saw him. "Captain Vance and I were just talking. I had no idea he had feelings for Dr. Wynter. Don’t you think they look good together?"
Kaden shot a cold glare at Felix. His deep eyes held a possessiveness he himself hadn’t noticed, and he unconsciously radiated a suppressive pressure.
For some reason, Kaden’s stare sent a chill down Felix’s spine. "Kaden, I was just saying hello to Dr. Wynter..."
"You have a flight mission today. Are you all prepared?" Kaden’s calm words unexpectedly carried a chilling undertone.
"Prepared, all prepared," Felix said hurriedly. Was it his imagination? Why does it feel like Kaden is unhappy?
Kaden ignored him and turned to Seraphina. "Seraphina, let’s go."
"Okay." Seraphina Sutton answered obediently, gave Wren a nod, and followed him.
From beginning to end, Kaden Xavier didn’t spare Wren another glance, as if she were a complete stranger.
Wren lowered her gaze, her eyelashes hiding her expression.
Felix scratched his head. "What’s with Kaden today? He’s so grumpy."
"Captain Vance, I have work to do. Excuse me."
"Hey, Dr. Wynter..."
Felix tried to call her back, but Wren was already walking away. He watched her retreating figure and stroked his chin.
Interesting. The more she acted this way, the more he wanted to win her over.
The morning was busy. Just before noon, Kaden Xavier and Seraphina Sutton came to the flight clinic for their medical check-ups.
This was a routine pre-flight examination, and Wren handled it with strict professionalism.
"Captain Xavier, heart rate normal, blood pressure normal."
She finished recording Kaden Xavier’s data.
"Flight Attendant Sutton, heart rate normal, blood pressure normal."
Seraphina Sutton, sitting on the examination bed, said softly, "Thank you, Dr. Wynter." Then, she looked at Kaden. "Kaden, I’m a little hungry. Let’s go get something to eat in a bit."
Kaden nodded. "Okay."
"Would you like to join us, Dr. Wynter?"
"No, thank you. I still have work to do," Wren said without looking up.
Just then, Felix Vance walked in holding a small cake. "Dr. Wynter, I brought you a cake. The cake from this shop is especially delicious..."
He stopped mid-sentence when he saw that Kaden and Seraphina were also there. After a moment of surprise, he said, "Kaden, Miss Sutton, you’re here too."
Kaden stared at the cake in Felix’s hand. His jet-black eyes were ice-cold, his chiseled jaw was tense, and his entire body was enveloped in the imposing aura of a man in power. "Felix, don’t you have to train the interns today?"
"I do."
"Then what are you waiting for?" Kaden shot him a look.
That single glance made Felix flinch. He didn’t dare to breathe too loudly. "Dr. Wynter, remember to eat it. I’ll get back to my work now." With that, he put down the cake and scurried off awkwardly.
Sigh! Why does Kaden’s attitude toward him feel so strange today?
Seraphina bit her lip. Before she could speak, she met Kaden’s warning gaze. She wisely swallowed her words and left the room, clearly resentful.
Kaden stood in front of Wren for a long moment, then picked up the cake and casually tossed it into the trash can. "It’s dirty. I’ll buy you one tonight."
Leaving her with those words, he sauntered out as if he were just taking a leisurely stroll.
Wren wanted to curse him out for being insane, but she swallowed her words when she saw a nurse approaching.
He didn’t object to Felix pursuing her, so what’s this all about now?
Meanwhile, Joy Lynch arrived at the hospital, carrying a lunchbox. She found Ho-ran Park’s department.
Ho-ran Park was in his office, looking at medical records. He was wearing a white coat, his signature shaved head particularly conspicuous in the office. Underneath the coat, he was dressed in simple, unadorned sportswear.
"Ho-ran!" Joy Lynch walked in with a smile.
Ho-ran Park looked up, a little surprised to see her. "Miss Lynch, what are you doing here?"
"I brought you lunch." Joy placed the lunch box on his desk. "I made it myself. You should try it."
Ho-ran Park glanced behind her, his attention not on the lunch box at all. "Did Wren send you? Is she not feeling well?" 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
"No, Wren is perfectly fine." Joy stood across from him, opening the lunch box as she replied. "Hurry up and eat. I even made my specialty today—honey-glazed ribs! They’re delicious!"
Ho-ran Park was polite but distant. "Miss Lynch, I appreciate the thought. If there’s something you need my help with, you can just ask. There’s no need to go to all this trouble."
"But I don’t need help with anything."
"Then what is this...?" Ho-ran Park gestured at the lavish lunch box.
"Are you dense? Can’t you tell? I want to pursue you!"
Joy’s bright, almond-shaped eyes stared intently at Ho-ran Park, her bluntness catching him completely off guard. Instantly, all the other doctors in the office looked over, and a few even started to hoot and holler.
"Dr. Park, looks like romance is blossoming for you!"
"Yeah, Miss Lynch is so beautiful, and so thoughtful too."
"Dr. Park is a lucky man."
"Please watch what you say, everyone, so as not to damage Miss Lynch’s reputation." Ho-ran Park addressed the crowd in a refined yet humble tone, then turned back to Joy with impeccable composure. "Miss Lynch, thank you for your kind intentions, but I am not interested in you."
It was a direct rejection, yet he didn’t lose an ounce of his gentlemanly demeanor.
Rejected, Joy’s entire posture slumped, and she looked up with a pitiful expression on her little face. "You don’t like me even a little bit?"
"I do not!"
"Alright then. In that case, I definitely can’t let you go now! I, Joy Lynch, have never failed to get someone I’ve set my sights on! I’m going to win you over!"
Ho-ran Park was speechless. He awkwardly packed up the lunch box and said earnestly, "Miss Lynch, we’ve only known each other for a few days. You should direct your affections toward someone else. We’re not a good match. Please leave."
