Chasing His Ex: The Tycoon's Hidden Twins
Chapter 109: Lu Fan: Look at My Future Daughter-in-law
Jiang Sifan hadn’t expected Wen Wan to be so worried about him that she would burst into tears.
He was genuinely touched.
He immediately took out a tissue and wiped away her tears, saying, "I’m fine. Isn’t this all thanks to you? If it weren’t for you, I would’ve been in real trouble. See? I’m perfectly okay now."
As he spoke, Jiang Sifan even flexed his muscles playfully.
Seeing this, Wen Wan’s quiet sobs turned into a shy giggle.
Jiang Sifan breathed a sigh of relief when he saw her smile.
He then got into the police car and waved to Wen Wan. "Alright, you should head back. Don’t worry about me."
Wen Wan nodded, watching the police car drive away.
This scene was also witnessed by Lu Fan, who was sitting in a car not far away.
"Is that girl Sifan’s partner?" he asked.
Chen He replied, "Yes, Boss. That girl is in the same class as the Young Master. She used to work part-time in the school library and cafeteria, and she’s also handed out flyers. She excels in both her studies and her conduct."
"Have you investigated her family background?" After hearing Chen He’s report, Lu Fan figured that if a girl spent all her time outside of her studies working part-time, her family must be struggling financially.
Chen He explained, "She’s from Sichuan. I had someone over there look into it. Her family isn’t very well-off. They have four daughters and one young son."
"Sounds like they have a preference for sons over daughters," Lu Fan deduced.
Looking at the well-behaved Wen Wan, Lu Fan thought, ’This young lady wouldn’t be a bad choice for a daughter-in-law.’
’And judging by the way Jiang Sifan just made Wen Wan laugh, that kid must have a way with the ladies.’
"I’m quite looking forward to seeing if he can win her over," Lu Fan said with a smile.
Chen He stated confidently, "Of course he can. The Young Master is handsome and silver-tongued, just like you, Boss."
"Chen He."
"Wh-what is it, Boss? Did I say something wrong again?"
"No. I was just thinking that, for once, you actually said something sensible."
"Ah, this..."
Lu Fan checked the time and said to Chen He, "Let’s go. To Jinling University."
"Right."
Meanwhile, Jiang Silu had just finished her class.
She was packing her things, ready to leave the classroom.
"Silu."
The class president, He Haipeng, called out to her.
Jiang Silu turned to look at him and asked, "What is it, Class President?"
"Um..." He Haipeng stammered, unsure of how to phrase his words.
Jiang Silu was a little puzzled. "Is something wrong, Class President?" she asked curiously.
"It’s like this," He Haipeng explained. "I saw that you’re very good at drawing diagrams, and I’ve been having a real headache with my studies lately. I was wondering if I could ask you for some help?"
Upon hearing this, Jiang Silu smiled. "Of course."
"Then, as payment, can I pay you... 300 yuan per session?" He Haipeng named a price.
Jiang Silu immediately shook her head. "Class President, how could I take your money? Isn’t it normal for classmates to help each other out?"
"I just feel like I’d be taking up your time. Paying for the knowledge would put my mind at ease."
Just yesterday, He Haipeng had gotten two thousand yuan from his mom.
As soon as his mom found out her son was dating someone at school, she had generously given him two thousand yuan and told him to have a good time with his girlfriend.
He Haipeng now had this huge sum of money, but he couldn’t possibly just go up to Jiang Silu with it and say, ’Silu, you don’t have to go see that middle-aged man anymore. I’ve got money here.’
So he had to think of a plan.
After mulling it over, asking Jiang Silu to tutor him seemed like the safest approach.
Listening to him, Jiang Silu once again shook her head and refused. "It’s alright, Class President. You went out of your way to help me with my part-time job before. It’s only right that I help you in return."
"But..." He Haipeng stammered, "But I just don’t want you to... work so many part-time jobs."
It finally dawned on Jiang Silu. She smiled. "Class President, I know you mean well. You’re worried that since I didn’t apply for financial aid, I might be struggling to get by, right? Don’t worry, my usual living allowance is more than enough. Besides, even if it weren’t, I couldn’t take your money."
He Haipeng could only nod dejectedly. "You’re right, I wasn’t thinking things through. I’m sorry."
"It’s okay. You’re just looking out for the well-being of every student in our class." Seeing that it was getting late, Jiang Silu said, "Alright, Class President, I have to go work on my drawings. My project for the competition is due in two days."
"Okay, then I hope you win!" He Haipeng encouraged her.
After Jiang Silu left, he let out a sigh.
’The truth is, I’m not looking out for every student in the class,’ he thought. ’I’m just focused on Jiang Silu.’
’But from the looks of it, she doesn’t seem that interested in me.’
’I wonder if Silu even likes me at all...’ He Haipeng returned to his dorm, feeling disheartened.
Meanwhile, Jiang Silu headed toward the library, carrying her laptop bag.
’Of course I know what He Haipeng’s intentions are.’
’But I’m really not in the right headspace for that right now.’
’Besides, not too long ago, Jiang Sifan was a complete mess over his breakup.’
’Dating just doesn’t seem like a good fit for me.’
’At least, not at this stage of my life.’
Just as she was about to enter the library, her phone screen lit up.
She checked her phone and saw it was a message from Lu Fan.
Lu Fan: "Silu, are you out of class?"
Jiang Silu: "I am." 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
Lu Fan: "I was just passing by. You mentioned last time that your roommates really liked the pastries and milk tea from my chef, so I brought some over."
Jiang Silu was surprised. She hadn’t expected Lu Fan to personally deliver pastries and milk tea just because of a casual comment she’d made.
It might seem like a small thing, but to her, it was a matter of attitude.
And attitude is what women care about most.
It made Jiang Silu feel that Lu Fan genuinely cared about her, that he was quietly paying attention to every word she said and every little thing she did.
She glanced at the laptop bag in her hand. ’Having a pastry and chatting with Dad for a bit shouldn’t take too long.’
So she replied: "I’m at the library entrance now. I’ll head toward the school gate."
Lu Fan: "No need to come over. Just wait there."
So Jiang Silu waited obediently at the library entrance.
Just then, Lu Yao and Song Miaomiao, who were behind her on their way back to the dorm, spotted her.
Lu Yao asked curiously, "Lulu, what are you doing at the library entrance? Are you waiting for some cute guy?"
"N-no..." Jiang Silu explained awkwardly, "I’m waiting for my dad."
"Uncle Lu is coming over?!" Lu Yao’s eyes lit up with excitement.
To be honest, even though she now knew Lu Fan was Jiang Silu’s father...
...every time he was mentioned, Lu Yao’s girlish heart would still flutter.
’Sometimes I even dream at night,’ she thought, ’and wish he wasn’t Jiang Silu’s dad. That would be so great.’
Of course, Lu Yao wouldn’t dare have any improper thoughts now.
She wanted to avoid the cringey "I see you as my roommate, but you want to be my stepmom" joke later.
Jiang Silu replied, "Last time, I mentioned you guys liked the pastries and milk tea, so he’s personally bringing some over."
"Wow, Lulu, your dad is so good to you," Lu Yao said, filled with envy.
Song Miaomiao nodded in agreement from the side. "Yeah, your dad is really good to you."
Hearing them both say that, Jiang Silu felt a bit shy, but deep down, she was bursting with happiness.
Girls, after all, always enjoy a bit of quiet comparison.
As they were talking, a brand-new Maybach pulled up to the library entrance.
Lu Fan got out of the car.
Lu Yao immediately waved, greeting him enthusiastically, "Hello, Uncle Lu!"
"Hello," Lu Fan smiled. "What a coincidence. You’re all here?"
"Haha, Lulu said you were bringing us pastries and milk tea, and I got so excited! Uncle Lu, your chef is seriously amazing. After I tried those pastries last time, I thought they were the best thing I’d ever eaten in my entire life," Lu Yao said excitedly.
Hearing this, Lu Fan took out boxes of pastries and milk tea from the car. "Well then, you’ll have to enjoy them again today. If you finish them and still want more, just have Silu tell me, and I’ll have someone deliver more."
"That’s great! Thank you, Uncle Lu!" Lu Yao exclaimed.
Although the quieter Song Miaomiao didn’t express herself as boldly, she also said admiringly, "Thank you, Uncle Lu. We were just saying how well you treat Silu. We’re all so jealous. Our parents would never make a special trip just to bring us food."
"Haha," Lu Fan chuckled. "Well, your parents aren’t in Jinling. If they were here, I’m sure they’d often bring you tasty treats too. There isn’t a parent alive who doesn’t love their child."
Listening to Lu Fan’s words, Jiang Silu couldn’t tell if he was being sincere or just polite.
’If Lu Fan had known about me and my brother eighteen years ago, would he have chosen to take responsibility back then?’
’No one could say for sure.’
’But for now, everything Lu Fan has done shows that he really cares about me.’
’And he always goes out of his way to make me look good in front of my classmates.’
This also made Jiang Silu happy.
Seeing the laptop bag in Jiang Silu’s hand, Lu Fan asked, "Silu, are you heading to the library to work on your drawings?"
Jiang Silu nodded. "My design project is due in two days, so I need to hurry up and put the finishing touches on it."
"Then why not go to the hotel?" Lu Fan was a bit puzzled. "I already had the lobby manager reserve a room for you for the whole week."
"I... I’ll go at night." Jiang Silu blushed. "I was afraid that if I went too early, I’d waste electricity and water... I wanted to save you some of the hotel’s daily operating costs... And... the room is too big. I’m a little scared being there by myself."
She had looked it up online before; the cost of keeping a presidential suite for one day was equivalent to the cost of several regular rooms.
That’s why Jiang Silu planned to work on her drawings there at night and stay in the library during the day.
Hearing her touching reason, Lu Fan didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
Of course, Jiang Silu’s sentiment was a good one.
Lu Fan comforted her, "Don’t worry about it. It’s not a waste of money, and you wouldn’t be saving much anyway."
He looked at Lu Yao and Song Miaomiao. "Why not have your roommates stay with you? There are plenty of rooms, so you won’t disturb anyone even when you’re taking a break. It’s much better than the school dorms, where everyone knows the second you turn on a light."
"Plenty of rooms?" Lu Yao asked curiously. "Uncle Lu, are you talking about a B&B?"
"No, I’m talking about the presidential suite."
"What?!!! The! Pre-si-den-tial! Suite!" Lu Yao shrieked excitedly.
At her side, Song Miaomiao was also stunned speechless.
’Our roommate, Jiang Silu, has been staying in a presidential suite these past few days?!!’
They didn’t even want to say "I’m so jealous" anymore.
