Cursed Immortality
Chapter 1176: Playground of the Undead (1)
After the Death March was unleashed by the hidden existence of the Undead Skyfall Canyons, the Sagittarius Continent ceased to belong to either Life or Death.
What followed in the days after was not war but extinction as the undead tide did not wane, nor did it thin with slaughter, or slow with exhaustion, for it knows none of these limitations.
The battlefield that once stretched between emerald radiance and crimson dusk became a wasteland of ceaseless movement. The soil cracked open endlessly as rivers of black mist coiled through ruined trenches, and every corpse, fresh or ancient, answered the infernal decree of the Undead Skyfall.
But the most terrifying truth soon became clear. No one could leave the Great Continent of Sagittarius!
Legendary Kings attempted to tear open spatial passages; teleportation arrays were activated; secret escape artifacts were crushed in trembling hands; and even their life and soul vitalities were invoked, but all failed in the end.
It wasn’t like they couldn’t use the space law, or space rejected them, but the space itself had turned into a loop. No matter which direction they fled, no matter how far they tore through the sky, they would eventually find themselves back beneath the looming skull-shaped phenomenon, still within the borders of Sagittarius!
Now everyone has realized that this wasn’t just a phenomenon; it was a cruel cage that let others in, but no one could escape!
Words have already spread quickly through Soul Star Watches, and messages spread across the Middle Plains, making the Great Cosmic Continents tremble with shock.
On the Great Cosmic Continent of Aries, the Life Faction’s upper echelons descended into chaos. Nearly ninety percent of their frontline commanders, generals, and elite legions were trapped in Sagittarius.
Emergency councils were convened, and reinforcements were considered, but were immediately halted when they realized that entering was possible while leaving was not, especially after encountering the terrifying might of the Undead Skyfall legions.
No one dared gamble the rest of their strength anymore, and those who had already entered were almost abandoned.
The Universal Zodiac Bank froze multiple war investments and shifted to defensive consolidation. Mercenary contracts were revised overnight. Risk coefficients were recalculated with unprecedented severity.
The Neutral Faction increased border surveillance, recalled wandering forces, and sealed key trade routes. Rumors of an ancient entity within the Undead Skyfall Canyons awakening sent waves of paranoia through every major power.
Moreover, the Neutral Faction also took full advantage of being the only faction with fully intact power and secretly started to take over the rich territories of the Life Factions.
As for the Dead Faction’s strongholds on other continents, they were no better, if not worse. Their primary military backbone, Vampire elites, necromantic legions, and dark aristocracy, were also trapped. Their bases elsewhere stood half-empty.
Internal power struggles began simmering almost immediately, and those who knew the greatly depleted strength of the Dead Faction took full advantage of their plight.
In the end, both factions had sought domination over Sagittarius, and now both were bleeding in silence while no one dared interfere directly, and those who saw it as an opportunity couldn’t sit still either.
But in the entire Legendary Plains, a name whispered in every corner was the same, and it was engraved in their hearts.
Undead Skyfall Canyons, a true forbidden region that had just reminded the world why it bore that title!
---
The Great Cosmic Continent of Sagittarius, which was once a bloody battlefield between Life Faction and Dead Faction, was no longer a battlefield that resembled war. But now it has turned into a graveyard of cultivation for the Undead!
Even the once infamous Valley of the Sunless Dusk was nothing compared to the current Sagittarius Continent.
The plains were now an endless procession of rotting forms marching beneath a perpetually darkened sky. Tattered armor clanked rhythmically. Skeletal cavalry roamed in packs. Towering corpse abominations stitched from dozens of fallen warriors lumbered across shattered fortifications.
The undead did not build camps or fortify as the Dead and Life Factions did; instead, they roamed and hunted anyone who was not already one of them, becoming prey.
Scattered survivors who failed to reach fortified sanctuaries were devoured within hours. Even Legendary Rank experts found themselves overwhelmed if isolated.
Moreover, the most terrifying thing about the legions of the Undead Skyfall Canyons were with every death, they strengthened the tide, and every fall replenished their undead armies.
It was no longer just conquest; it had become assimilation, as the once-proud battlefield of Sagittarius had become an undead playground.
On the other hand, the imposing armies of Life and Dead Factions had become refugees without any way to escape the terror of Undead Skyfall legions!
---
On the eastern half of the continent, beneath layers of death-ridden grounds, unexpectedly radiant fortification and colossal light-element pylons. It was called the Sanctuary Bastion that was established by the Life Faction or whatever was left of them.
Gone were the forward assault formations and the triumphant war drums, for now, there were powerful concealment barriers stacked upon powerful light and defensive barriers created by the Alchemy Kings of the Alchemy Guild.
The remaining Holy arrays purchased from the Cardinal Spirit Temple, which were supposed to help the Life Faction in destroying the Dead Faction, now also pulsed constantly, purifying waves of creeping death mist, becoming a lifeline for the Life Faction and a living survivor of the current Sagittarius Continent.
Wounded soldiers filled every chamber. Supply reserves dwindled carefully.
Moreover, across the continent, within the reinforced inner territories of the Blood Domain, the Dead Faction had done the same for the Castle of Crimson Dusk, no longer projecting dominance. It had become a fortress under siege.
Vampires and liches who once commanded armies now rationed blood essence and death crystals. Even the Blood Doom King had sealed multiple castle wings to conserve power despite his overwhelming advantage.
Necromancers dared not summon additional undead, for fear they would turn, while the Ghost Race, and remnant of the Fiend Race, were even more miserable as they were forced to become cannon fodder.
Moreover, the Dead Faction was already planning on abandoning the Blood Domain and fled because the forces of the Undead Skyfall Canyons were relentlessly attacking the Castle of Crimson Dusk and could breach at any moment.
Nonetheless, both factions had arrived at the same humiliating reality; they were surviving, not winning!
