Chapter 1196: Chapter 1194: Unprecedented

Mr. Wycliffe was arranging some matters when someone suddenly knocked on the hospital room door.

Both of them were slightly startled. If it were the Doctor, they would usually push the door open after knocking twice, caring little about whether the patients needed privacy.

Moreover, there’s frosted glass on the door, and the person outside is not wearing a white Doctor’s coat.

As the housekeeper walked towards the door, it was already pushed open, and in came three individuals that were unmistakably Federation Government staff.

The one leading took out a badge, "FBI..." After surveying the room, his gaze quickly landed on Mr. Wycliffe.

The butler blocked their approach to Mr. Wycliffe, "I’m sorry, Mr. Wycliffe isn’t well right now, it’s not suitable for him to meet with you..."

The FBI investigator laughed softly, "I suspect your immigration paperwork is problematic. If you don’t cooperate with the investigation, according to regulations, you will be deported by midnight tonight..."

They would likely be transported to the International Port, left there waiting for the first departing passenger ship to leave the Federation after dawn.

It was just one sentence that left no room for refusal.

Mr. Wycliffe coughed twice, drawing everyone’s attention. He looked at the butler, "It’s okay, I believe they won’t take much of my time...", then he looked at the three, "Am I right?"

The lead investigator laughed and stepped in.

He looked around, even picking up Mr. Wycliffe’s medical report from the nightstand and flipping through it right in front of him.

The butler was about to say something but was stopped by Mr. Wycliffe.

He knew that without a search warrant, these individuals could only stand here and ask questions; they weren’t entitled to flip through anything in this room, representing the fairness of Federation’s legal procedures.

If you miss a point, you’ll miss it all. But now, not knowing why these people came, showing toughness followed by appropriate concession on foreign turf would allow both parties room to ease tensions.

"Seems like your health really isn’t good...", the investigator laughed, tossing the report back onto the nightstand.

He turned to face Mr. Wycliffe, "Not long ago, a group of people attacked one of our stations, resulting in four deaths and fifteen injuries."

"These people thought they could escape, but ultimately they were captured alive!," the investigator dropped a sensitive keyword.

Capturing alive meant they could speak; Mr. Wycliffe frowned, raising his hand to hold his chest as the feeling of palpitations surged again. He closed his eyes and bowed his head.

After three or four seconds, he took a relieved breath and lifted his head again.

He looked at his butler, "I need some water."

The butler, after two seconds, glanced around the room and headed towards the hospital room door, "As you wish, sir."

As he watched the butler leave, the investigator continued, "Among them was a leading figure who gave us a very intriguing name during confession - your name, Mr. Wycliffe."

Mr. Wycliffe shook his head while leaning back against the bed. There was something... sharply intense about him when he lifted his head.

It’s hard to describe, like an old alpha wolf staring at you.

You can sense his past toughness, but now in front of people is merely an elderly man with serious heart disease.

"There isn’t only one person named Wycliffe in this world, and he doesn’t have direct evidence against me; I’ve been framed." The elderly’s tone of retaliation wasn’t strongly intense.

Not like a cat whose tail has been stepped on, fluffing up and jumping in a "Let’s see how fierce you are" manner.

Plain yet powerful.

The investigator laughed, glancing around again, and finally back at Mr. Wycliffe, "So today I’m just here to have a look. If we had direct evidence, it’d be the military coming now."

He changed the tone, "If you saw the President’s speech, you should understand that the dignity of the Federation is not to be provoked. Whether or not you are the mastermind behind the terrorist attack, we must make you understand our resolve."

"No matter if you are an individual, an organization, or a country, once you cross the line, there will inevitably be a bullet from the Federation shot into your head!"

Mr. Wycliffe looked at him, "Is this a threat?"

"It’s a kind reminder, and also a warning!"

The investigator paused for a moment, "We may require your cooperation in our investigation at any time, for now, don’t leave the city, and when we need to find you, you must be able to be found by us."

"Alright, I’ve said what needs to be said. I’m sorry for disturbing your rest, Mr. Wycliffe, good night!"

The three quickly left the room, running into the returning butler carrying water.

The butler politely stepped aside, took a glance at the backs of the three, and returned to the room.

"Sir, do we need to leave?"

Mr. Wycliffe shook his head, sipping a bit of water from the cup, "Leaving now would instead cause trouble, and besides, my health isn’t enough to support leaving here shortly."

"They won’t do anything to me. Someone will speak on my behalf."

Right now, bearing hundreds of millions in debt, he’s the last person others can afford to have anything happen to.

No one can have an accident, except him!

The three people at the door arrived at the parking lot and entered the car; the leader casually threw the FBI badge he had shown earlier into the car’s glove box.

Besides this badge, there were various other credentials, and a gun inside.

The car quickly started up and merged into the traffic.

The person sitting in the passenger seat suddenly said, "I don’t quite understand why we should remind him."

The driver didn’t hold back; they all belonged to the Security Committee, which actually had many factions.

Like the native faction, these people were passed down since the Security Committee was first established; they don’t lean towards any political stance, maintaining absolute neutrality.

Although not the largest force in the Security Committee, their strength is the strongest.

Then there’s the ruling faction; people from the Conservative Party and Progressive Party, they all have their own people in the Security Committee.

Just like the current President, he represents the Progressive Party by sending some people to key positions in the Security Committee.

After the President steps down, many offices in the Security Committee belong to the President, namely the ruling faction.

Can’t just let the new President reorganize the entire Security Committee when he takes office, right?

So, apart from some key positions that will be replaced, others inserted by the previous term will be marginalized.

They will do the dirty work, then wait for the next candidate with the same political stance to come to power, and regain some opportunities.

The three people in the car belong to the Progressive Party camp, also known as the ruling faction, after all, the President is from the Progressive Party.

"Now’s not the time; he can’t exert his maximum value yet. This might be another deal; it has nothing to do with us."

"Just do what we’re supposed to do, and try not to get involved in other things..."

This task was arranged by an Action Director, who has a very good relationship with Truman. He suspects there’s more inside information here.

But as an executor, he doesn’t need to know so much.

Actually...he guessed right.

From the moment Wycliffe entered the country to the scar-faced confession, he was already locked on.

When it came to how to handle this person, Truman’s suggestion was to hold off first.

He doesn’t have significant value now; he’s just an international speculator, perhaps with some hints of a violent group behind him, but that’s about all the value he has.

Taking him down now wouldn’t have much meaning or effect; therefore, reminding him to bring psychological pressure while leaving him as a dormant time bomb is very much in line with Truman’s views.

When the Federation needs to do something, and it’s not easy to open up the situation, nothing is more effective than finding and capturing the planner of a terrorist attack and interrogating extremely important insider information.

Say who is the bad guy, who is the bad guy, even if not a bad guy, they’re still a bad guy!

Soon these people reported back, and then the message was sent to Truman, who just glanced at it and burned the note.

This trail is temporarily put on hold.

He’s increasingly fond of this feeling; it’s even like it’s triggering his collector’s fetish!

Putting everything useful and valuable neatly in places he considers appropriate.

When he needs something, he can easily pick out something suitable and throw it out, then solve all the problems!

A few days later, after Wycliffe underwent a consultation with experts, he received a fairly pessimistic result.

He could die at any moment now; his heart is "aging" at a very rapid pace, losing vitality; only with consistently high medical maintenance costs can he keep living.

No one wants to die, and Wycliffe is no different; he doesn’t want to die either.

Actively scraping together money can only let him live longer in a relatively safe environment; the Doctor’s suggestion to him is to first use medication to maintain his current condition.

When medication becomes difficult to be effective, it will be time for surgery.

Also, the Doctor told him if it’s time for surgery, he must find a heart suitable for him, ready for transplant surgery any time.

Which means putting someone else’s heart into his chest!

He asked the Doctor at the time how much success rate such surgery has, but the Doctor told him that on monkeys, mice, and pigs, the success rate is around twenty percent, but on humans... there are currently no precedents.

Wycliffe might be the first person in the world to attempt a heart transplant!

But this is definitely not good news!
