Chapter 5779: Chapter 4802: Murderous Intent on a Rainy Night (End)

This time, the noose wasn’t around his hand, but his neck. Doctor Manhattan seemed to have made no modifications in this regard, and Arkham Batman experienced the full execution process, just being hanged like that.

However, after dying, he could transform into a soul and continue to linger in the arena, even switch to the first-person perspective of different teammates. He felt this feature was quite good, allowing him to watch his teammates complete the game firsthand.

But the annoying part was that other teammates’ souls could also stay, and they could communicate with each other. Constantine said smugly, "How about it? Wasn’t I fast? I should be the first to complete the seal."

Arkham Batman really wanted to avoid talking to him. He came up to Rorschach and said, "Thanks for taking the hit for me. I admit I misunderstood you before. Maybe I could invite you to the Presidential Palace for a chat."

Rorschach seemed very frustrated, unable to hear what Arkham Batman was saying. He said, "We’ve completely screwed up; the devils are going to win. It must be because one of us did something wrong that we didn’t receive Christ’s mercy..."

Arkham Batman sighed. Rorschach could never escape from his own world. Even switching to a religious channel didn’t help, as his mind was filled with the devils defeating Christ, fearing that his invincible Lord Jesus Christ might be harmed due to someone among them being sinful.

One might say Arkham Batman finally felt somewhat grateful that he ranked with Constantine because when it came to sin, even if he wasn’t a president approved by Rorschach, he absolutely couldn’t compete with Constantine. This guy’s sins were practically written on his face. As expected, Rorschach furiously went to trouble Constantine, claiming his heavy sins were the reason the Lord wouldn’t help them punish the devils.

Arkham Batman continued to watch through his teammates’ perspectives. Actually, there was no one else to switch to, just Black Widow left. But to his surprise, Black Widow’s perspective was underwater at this moment.

She somehow jumped into the lake and actually found a hole at the bottom. Fortunately, she had the hook skill, allowing her to swiftly move underwater, yet even so, there seemed to be some passive skill enhancing her lung capacity, letting her stay in the underwater cave for nearly ten minutes without suffocating.

With a "swush," a head emerged from the surface of the dark underground cave water. Black Widow gasped heavily, wiping her hair and face, and slowly swam to the shore.

Ahead was a dark, deep cave passage, and Black Widow walked toward it without hesitation. But at that moment, a figure suddenly flashed to the other side of the lake.

Arkham Batman felt something was amiss. With four seals completed, Shiller had been enhanced to his complete form, capable of seeing through the entire map with teleportation, and had already left the castle via the water system, able to pursue them again. How could they continue playing?

Black Widow was visibly startled. However, the Central Universe’s Black Widow had told her quite a bit about Shiller, making her somewhat knowledgeable. Black Widow moved silently to the corner of the cave, then crouched down without moving.

Arkham Batman understood. Shiller’s long-distance vision and teleportation skills had cooldowns. Arkham Batman even suspected that Shiller’s vision couldn’t lock onto a specific person, only a general area.

Previously, she was locked by this vision because she didn’t anticipate it could penetrate walls, thus being unprepared and got locked from the back.

Now Black Widow was prepared, knowing Shiller’s specific location. As long as she faced him and crouched, Shiller’s poor vision, combined with the cave’s darkness, might not be able to spot her.

Arkham Batman silently cheered for Black Widow in his heart. He could only say that maintaining this posture under such circumstances required immense courage, given how terrifying Shiller appeared. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

His knife was all red now, and his eyes seemed like deep blood holes. He repeatedly paced the shore, constantly glancing in Black Widow’s direction, walking back and forth several times.

Arkham Batman could tell Shiller was using the Exhaustion Method for locating. This time, he directly walked towards Black Widow. Arkham Batman knew that the tune in Black Widow’s mind must have reached its climax.

The blood-red sword tip was less than 20 yards from Black Widow’s nose, yet the female agent remained composed, unmoving. By now, she wasn’t crouching but lying sideways against the wall, resembling an inconspicuous shadow in the corner. Unless Shiller idly kicked the wall, he absolutely couldn’t discover her.

Shiller’s movement seemed restricted; he wasn’t that agile and couldn’t perform certain actions, including groping with his hands or probing with his feet. So, he merely swung at the wall once, cutting off two strands of Black Widow’s hair without causing an injury. Thus, the side-lying Black Widow wasn’t detected in the corner.

Thinking Black Widow might have escaped, Shiller eventually teleported away. But Black Widow remained unmoving, like a deadly venomous spider lurking in the corner. The cave was so quiet there wasn’t even the sound of wind.

After a few minutes, the figure reappeared. Evidently, the four layers of seals had reduced his skill cooldown to the minimum. If Black Widow was escaping through the cave now, she would undoubtedly be locked from the back. Luckily, the female agent was exceedingly cautious, lying there completely still.

Shiller teleported away again, and this time Black Widow didn’t hesitate. She hooked onto the ceiling, slowly hoisting herself up. The cave was high, her toes were at least over 100 yards from the ground, completely beyond Shiller’s reach, and her back against the wall.

As expected, Shiller returned once more, meticulously walking along the corners. But unfortunately, Black Widow had ascended, making checking the corners meaningless.

Shiller teleported away again, yet Black Widow remained suspended, for half an hour. Arkham Batman even began to admire her. It could only be said that individuals who reach the pinnacle in their field always have extraordinary skills.

After half an hour, Black Widow slowly lowered herself, then stepped backward into the cave. She could feel the cave getting brighter, which meant she was getting closer to the exit.

But suddenly, a sharp and long shadow swept over her head. A dark figure stood at the entrance, staring at Black Widow’s back, with an indifferent smile.

"Swish!"

"Ahhhh!!!"

Accompanied by Black Widow’s scream, a castle in the rain appeared in front of everyone’s eyes, and the narrator’s voice sounded again: "The evil spirit still lingers..."

Arkham Batman angrily slammed the wall beside him.

It was his fault Black Widow got into trouble. Because he initially emphasized to her, don’t get caught with your back exposed, under no circumstances should you show your back to Shiller. This warning was useful most of the time, but Shiller used the fact that others knew his skill to set up a reverse trap on purpose.

At the final escape route in the tunnel, if Black Widow had gone in facing forward, Shiller would need time to lock onto her. She would definitely see Shiller before he saw her, because human eyes don’t need to focus, and there was light at the entrance. As soon as she saw Shiller, she could activate her skills.

Widow Sting has a forced interrupt, and the hook can speed up movement. While Shiller was focusing, she could use all her skills and then forcibly rush out the entrance, completing her escape. Shiller would be too late to chase, at worst, she would take a hit but still manage to escape.

But the problem was Black Widow was too cautious and remembered Arkham Batman’s warning not to expose her back to Shiller, who had gone back and forth several times, each time landing by the lake. So Black Widow thought it would be safer to face the lake with her back to the exit because if Shiller appeared by the lake again while she was passing through the tunnel and activated his vision skill, then Black Widow facing him would not be caught. So she shuffled backwards towards the exit.

But this was actually Shiller’s trap. Shiller went back and forth several times not to use his skills there but to make Black Widow fall into a psychological trap, believing he could only teleport to the lakeside and not directly into the tunnel.

But in reality, he could enter the tunnel and even block the door at the entrance. He intentionally teleported back and forth multiple times to lure Black Widow into the tunnel backward. As long as she went in backward, she would undoubtedly expose her back, allowing Shiller to focus before she noticed him and then cut her down with two strikes.

"Such a sly trick." The spirit of Black Widow complained while watching the drama, "I thought the game would be designed not to block the door, so I assumed he wouldn’t get close to the exit, hence why he kept circling by the lake. I didn’t expect it was all an act!"

"I’m sure he calculated that too," Arkham Batman said, "It’s because you are too smart that he doesn’t dare show you the air wall performance, afraid of exposing flaws. Otherwise, you’d see him repeatedly hitting the ’wall’ blocking the escape exit."

Thinking of that scene, Black Widow couldn’t help but laugh but soon complained: "What was the game designer thinking, making ghosts so strong, even able to block doors?"

"That door is certainly not the only exit," Arkham Batman said, "There’s no such thing as an unsolvable door block. If you worry about him blocking doors, you can completely swim back and take another exit."

"Also, each of us has strong control skills. If blood volume is still healthy, a control skill coupled with a hit’s worth of blood can force our way out. So this aspect of the design isn’t really a problem."

Black Widow sighed and said, "When the fourth person was sacrificed, the narrator began reciting the story, hinting at the cave in the lake. I thought the seal was completely done for, so I had to escape alone. Knowing this, I might as well have tried to finish the last seal."

"You know the location?"

"Of course. But that thing is in the western tower, too far from me. I don’t have skills to speed up puzzle-solving, going there is too risky, and the pond is closer, so I thought I’d run for it."

Arkham Batman nodded, he couldn’t blame Black Widow either. Arkham Batman is a superhero, more willing to save others or sacrifice himself to seal the devils. But Black Widow is an agent, with no hope of mission success, it’s best to retreat promptly. Playing this hard for what money?

"The game’s design is not bad; it’s indeed interesting." Arkham Batman’s eyes twinkled with excitement, "This round we mainly lost due to not knowing the rules, like there’s a limit to being suspended, and ghosts can block doors."

"More importantly, we’ve never been ghosts, we don’t know the constraints there or what the skills are. I will play as a ghost once; once I learn how ghosts operate, I can definitely form an exorcist squad to seal the devils."

Arkham Batman strode out of the elevator, looking up and shouting at Doctor Manhattan: "I can bring in a few more players for you. Let me be a ghost this time."

"No problem." Doctor Manhattan agreed readily, "You’ll enter the same game from the same hall. I’ll arrange your roles according to your request."

Arkham Batman nodded, then began contemplating which unlucky fellows to recruit for his test. He turned to look at the Hunter sitting aside—it’s time to talk to Greed about swapping people halfway.
