Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God
Chapter 417: Arriving at the Place for Healing
With the "guidance" from the Crow, Lin Yu and Fern quickly found the Healing Station.
Although the straight-line distance of 4.3 kilometers ended up being at least half again as long due to detours around the woodland terrain and the presence of various fierce beasts, it still couldn't be considered too far by any stretch.
The two of them soon saw the "Healing Station" situated between the dense forest and the grasslands.
The moment he saw the "Healing Station," Lin Yu understood why this thing would "randomly" appear.
Because it was a massive tent—so large it looked like the type a circus would perform inside.
Next to the tent was a huge flatbed cart. In front of it, two earth-yellow, lizard-like reptiles the size of giant lizards were lying down, resting.
This setup indeed looked like something that could be "mobile" and "itinerant."
And it was very characteristic of the Black Marsh world.
"So this thing moves by being pulled by a beast-drawn cart," Lin Yu sighed helplessly. "I thought there would be some kind of sorcery or something involved."
However, compared to Lin Yu, Fern didn't seem to be overthinking it as much.
"Finally here!"
Upon seeing the enormous tent, Fern simply let out a heartfelt sigh of exhaustion.
"It's so damn hot!"
Mustering the last bit of strength in her body, she then struggled to dash toward the area beside the tent.
Lin Yu quickly followed.
Compared to Fern, who had been on a forced march under the sun all morning, although Lin Yu was also feeling dizzy and disoriented from the heat, thanks to the various buffs on his person, his discomfort remained just that—discomfort. His physical condition wasn't actually affected.
He followed Fern to the entrance of the Healing Station.
A wooden sign saying "No Fighting" stood at the tent's entrance. A heavy curtain door made of beast hide dragged on the ground, and it was eerily quiet inside.
Fern laboriously lifted the curtain and ducked inside. The space within also exuded a wild, rough-hewn atmosphere.
But compared to most places in the Black Marsh world, this was already quite refined.
Thick beast-hide rugs were laid over a layer of straw mats woven from dry grass. The walls were hung with all sorts of polished beast bones inlaid with metal, serving as some kind of decoration.
A massive black bronze furnace fire burned slowly in the center of the tent. Surrounding this huge furnace were sacks filled with various medicinal herbs and piled-up earthenware jars brimming with medicinal liquids.
On the beast hides further out, additional woven straw mats were spread, seemingly acting as "beds" for healing.
Although there were about fifty such beds, only a handful were occupied. Lin Yu counted a total of eight wounded.
Some had both legs severed at the root, some had only half their skull remaining, some had their entire chest caved in as if crushed by a giant boulder...
In short, they were mostly Barbarians and Blood Rakshasas who were barely clinging to life, their breaths as faint as a wisp, hovering on the brink of death. At a minimum, they were all severely injured and near death.
This obviously wasn't because only eight people got injured on the first day, but because only these eight had managed to find the Healing Station and were brought here by their teammates.
Although, from a "Player's" perspective, a Healing Station that forbids fighting is a great place to replenish stamina, rest properly, and recuperate from injuries...
That's because most Players' goal is simply to obtain five trophies, secure the most basic "Warrior Credential," and clear the dungeon.
But those representing their tribes in the "Glory Festival" are different.
Setting aside the importance the entire Blood Kingdom places on this festival and the atmosphere that glorifies combat, from an objective benefit standpoint, they also need to compete for "ranking."
Every contestant selected to participate carries the heavy responsibility of elevating their tribe's status and possesses a strong sense of identification with their own tribe.
Simultaneously, having grown up in the Blood Kingdom, they have been instilled with intangible values since childhood. Many Blood Rakshasas and Barbarians pin their entire hopes for self-worth realization, self-affirmation, and honor on achieving a good ranking in the Glory Festival.
Therefore, in the Glory Festival... seeking out and entering a Healing Station is a huge waste of time!
Breaking a few bones, losing a hand or a foot—these are considered minor injuries in the Glory Festival, ones that can be dealt with by simple bandaging before continuing to fight!
These warrior races, refined through millennia of natural selection, inherently possess robust physiques. Naturally, they wouldn't come to this Healing Station unless suffering from near-fatal, life-threatening injuries.
After all, coming to the Healing Station for treatment takes too much time—the medical care in this world relies entirely on sorcery and herbal medicine. Medicine and witchcraft in the current Black Marsh world are essentially still one and the same.
Although, due to the abundance of various miraculous creatures in the Black Marsh world itself and the profound, mysterious power of sorcery, the actual healing effects aren't bad, the onset of treatment is indeed far too slow!
And if those with minor injuries don't come back, these people are even less likely to go through the trouble of coming to the "Healing Station" just to rest.
The words "No Fighting" are not a good thing for the residents of the Black Marsh world, especially those of the Blood Kingdom!
So, that's why, even though the Healing Station is centrally located and spacious, there are only a handful of people inside. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦
"Hmm, it feels like there's nothing here... But since we are both 'individual contestants,' we should at least be able to get those free weapons, right?"
"I really don't have any close-combat weapons... Especially since the beasts and monsters in this dungeon are all thick-skinned and tough, and their sizes are huge too."
Fern mused, and Lin Yu nodded in agreement.
"Yes, I'm also curious about how to claim those so-called 'weapons'... We didn't arrive too late, there should still be some left."
Although he already had a spear in hand, Lin Yu never minded having more useful weapons.
"Since it's a Healing Station, the medical staff should be responsible for this matter," Fern analyzed. "But... where are the medical staff?"
Lin Yu remained silent.
He didn't know either. The entire tent, apart from the severely wounded patients lying unconscious on the "straw mats," wrapped in bandages and smeared with herbal medicine, contained only him and Fern.
"Hannah, do you sense anything present?"
"Ribbit! Director, nope!"
After quietly asking Hannah in his mind to no avail, Lin Yu felt somewhat helpless.
"Then we'll have to use the [Mind-Peeping Eyepiece]. Its hidden function can indeed find someone who's stealthed... if the other party has emotional fluctuations."
Lin Yu silently activated the [Mind-Peeping Eyepiece].
Although this thing didn't have a clear usage limit, using it too much would still lead to mental fatigue and emotional instability.
Especially using it to find people... like this, without a specific analytical target and conducting aimless analysis, the drain on Lin Yu was even greater.
Furthermore, if the other party's mind was as still as water or they had some interference method, Lin Yu would come up empty-handed.
So he generally didn't use this method to find people.
However, once used, since most people's disguises never consider the need to also disguise their "emotions," it was still easy to get results.
Like right now, after scanning the tent once, Lin Yu found the eleventh presence in this tent besides the eight wounded and himself and Fern.
But whether it was a person...
Lin Yu wasn't very sure either.
Because the other party's form was a bit strange.
Lin Yu looked at the leaping "furnace fire" within the black bronze furnace in the very center of the tent.
The [Mind-Peeping Eyepiece] told him that this mass of furnace fire was currently feeling 75% contentment, 15% happiness, and 10% anxiety and worry.
In other words...
This mass of furnace fire was currently alive, sentient, and experiencing emotional fluctuations.
