Detective Agency of the Bizarre
Chapter 1566 - 24: Phantasmagoria Syndrome
The sudden emergence of urgency tore apart the rare leisure.
"Where are you going... Lu Li."
Yet the nurse of the Swamp became the greatest obstacle. Lu Li stood on the third-floor stairs, staring at the nurse as she issued a threat: "...If you go to the second floor... you will be confined to the Solitary Cell!"
He couldn’t afford to waste time until night, or it would be too late.
"Head nurse."
After the nurse left, Lu Li called the head nurse and asked, "How does the Asylum deal with nurses who break the rules?"
"Dismissal."
"Doesn’t the threat from the Swamp nurse count as breaking the rules?"
"We need evidence, child."
So Lu Li returned to the fourth floor, where the Master of Dreams was the only patient who could help him and was willing to help.
"Do you want to get rid of the nurse? It’s difficult... but not impossible..."
"What should I do?"
"There’s something you need in room 212."
...
Click—
The door to room 305 opened.
The wet Uninvited Guest lay on the damp bed. Lu Li stepped closer on the floor tiles marked with damp traces, his gaze resting on the bunch of keys clutched in the pale palm.
Keys marked with numbers corresponded to room numbers. Lu Li had once tried to pry open the Uninvited Guest’s fingers, using potted plants and coins to exchange, but nothing happened.
But now he had to get the keys because room 212’s door was locked during the day.
Lu Li checked every corner of the room, opened the bedside cabinet, and found a photograph of a family of three lying in the drawer.
"I’ve seen your family. She’s in the second-floor room, but I don’t have the key to the door."
Lu Li set the photo frame on the bedside cabinet and reached for the keys clutched by the Uninvited Guest.
"I will bring her to see you."
Clatter—
With a clattering, the bunch of keys was extracted from the Uninvited Guest’s now softened palm.
Having obtained the keys, Lu Li hurried to the stairs, took advantage of the nurse’s distraction by the siren’s room to rush to the second floor, briefly bypassing the wheelchair girl still in the corridor, inserted the keys into the lock, twisted open the door, and slipped into the room.
As the room door closed, the nurse emerged from room 207, looking this way with a puzzled expression, her dim amber eyes lowered.
A trail of damp footprints extended from the stairs to room 212...
The deep-seated hatred surfaced on the nurse’s face as she stepped into room 212 and heard that sound she loathed coming from inside.
"...You just need to tell the head nurse what the Swamp did to you..."
Bam!
The nurse suddenly pushed open the door, staring coldly at Lu Li: "I told you..."
"Head nurse."
Lu Li interrupted the nurse at this point, looking out towards the hallway where a silhouette had appeared, "I found the evidence of the nurse’s oppression of the Blood Spirit, the Spider Princess can testify."
The nurse was surprised that the head nurse was right behind her, her expression turning ugly as she said, "Lu Li broke the rules, he shouldn’t have left—"
"Spider Princess, is this true?" The head nurse ignored the nurse’s defense.
"We all saw it, this wicked witch wanted to harm this peasant, but the brave knight stopped her." The Spider Princess pointed at the nurse with one hand and six legs.
"Swamp, in your current state, you’re not fit to continue taking care of patients." The head nurse spoke to the nurse, brimming with intense hatred, in a voice that left no room for refusal: "You are suspended."
"You can’t do this..."
"...I can."
The head nurse took the nurse away, resolving the problem troubling Lu Li.
"...Don’t forget what you promised," the Blood Spirit looked at Lu Li.
"I can take you to find the King of Ghouls now," Lu Li replied, then turned to the snotty girl—the only one in the hospital matching the family-of-three photo, "Where’s your family?"
"I don’t remember..."
Then, Lu Li took the snotty girl, Blood Spirit, and Spider Princess, opened room 213, added the giant frog, and first went up to the third floor. They entered the Uninvited Guest’s room, where the father and daughter were reunited, and then proceeded to the fourth floor, bringing the Blood Spirit to the King of Ghouls’ room and the Spider Princess to the Spider Mother Goddess’ room, and finally delivering the giant frog to the God of the Deep Sea.
The remnants of the drowned appeared there, igniting a fierce argument, ending in unpleasant separation as the giant frog left behind a notebook.
Lu Li picked it up and opened it, inside were records of his transformation from human to monster.
Back on the second floor, Lu Li handed the diary to Steam Contour, and as he left, Adam quietly urged him to find a solution quickly.
Lu Li, holding the keys, unlocked the locked rooms on the third floor, discovering a bowl of kerosene in room 304 and finding a camera in room 306. Guessing how to use it, Lu Li returned to room 213 and took half-body photos of Adam and Sara.
The disfigured lovers, unable to see each other, received the photos, reminisced their past feelings, and found peace. Sara & Adam offered their blessings to Lu Li: "Our story is over, yours is just beginning."
With dusk approaching outside the window, he turned on the flashlight, yet saw its dim flicker.
Passing by the wheelchair girl, Lu Li asked why she was still there, she said she didn’t have fire.
Noting this, Lu Li returned to the third floor, traded the flashlight for the Shadow Thief of Fire’s oil lamp, obtained the lamp oil from the Riddle of Riddles’ room, and lit a cigarette for the wheelchair girl in the dim glow.
"Thank you for your kindness and generosity," the wheelchair girl said.
"What is your task?" Lu Li asked the nameless lady, she said she wanted more targets.
Then Lu Li held the sculpture, bringing it to the merchant: "Help me find a home for it."

Afterwards, Lu Li took a selfie and presented the photo to Mrs. Slav.
"Love can melt everything..." Mrs. Slav murmured tenderly, holding the photo.
Lu Li took the patient lists for the three floors to the nameless lady, who wickedly said, "You will regret this..."
Finally, Lu Li delivered the worm to the courtyard outside the dark door, carrying the oil lamp to disperse the darkness, arriving on the first floor.
The clock’s hour and minute hands in the hall were about to overlap.
Midnight approached.
The doors of the Asylum opened wide before him, emitting a warm and beautiful white light.
Lu Li slowed down his pace. At some point, those patients long since discharged had gathered along both sides of the door, whispering as he approached.
"I’m liberated, but you must stay in this awful place."
"Don’t love illusory beings... love real people."
"We must always face reality."
"The past is certainly beautiful, but cherish the present."
"Make sure to cherish those around you."
"You will regret this..."
"The separations and pain we experienced are only fleeting bitterness before sweetness..."
"Follow this bitter journey, to reach the stars."
"Love can melt everything..."
"Our story is over, yours is just beginning."
"Sincerely, thank you."
"Thank you for braving the danger."
"Thank you for your selfless help."
"Thank you for your kindness and generosity."
"May you have a wonderful tomorrow."
As the doors opened spilling white light inside, Lu Li stepped forward, unwavering in his stride, stepping into the field of vision flooded with white light.
