Chapter 2269 - 2270: Strange City
The platform slowly descended into a circular depression. Looking at the similar depressions surrounding them, Feng Yuan couldn’t help but wonder if something had happened here. Otherwise, judging by the things they saw, this city should be a transport hub.
If not, there wouldn’t be so many platform docking areas; at least, as far as Feng Yuan’s sight could reach, similar docking points were everywhere.
Although these docking points made the square pitted with holes, the yellow energy barriers encircling the gaps were sufficient to prevent people from accidentally falling in.
"There’s nothing to guide us right now. Where should we head to? The tallest tower?"
Feng Yuan rubbed his chin and looked at the group, asking for their opinion. Although the most thorough method might be to thoroughly inspect the city, given its size, even if they split up, it would take several days to traverse the whole thing, and that’s in an ideal scenario. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Even though no enemies were visible at the moment, Feng Yuan couldn’t be sure there were no hidden dangers lying in wait.
If they couldn’t split up, a full investigation of this city might take them over a week, and they may not have that much time to waste.
"Although that tower is very conspicuous, given the city’s layout, it may not necessarily be an important facility. If this place is similar to our cities, there should be some form of a map available."
"Why don’t we look for a map first?"
Qiu Hanmo shook his head as he looked at Feng Yuan, saying. He had noticed the tall white tower earlier, but since this city resembled their modern cities, tall tower structures generally weren’t significant facilities.
Of course, normally, such ultra-high towers wouldn’t be built unless for some special purpose, and if you think of it that way, it does seem somewhat important.
However, these are all just speculations. Qiu Hanmo thought if they could find a map, they wouldn’t need to bother so much.
"Maps... such things are generally easier to find in parks or transportation nodes, uh... hmm?"
Feng Yuan lightly pinched his chin, trying to recall if he had seen any metro exits or similar facilities earlier. Just then, out of the corner of his eye, he caught a glimmer of golden light. Turning his head in confusion, Feng Yuan saw a ball-like object glowing in gold, floating not far away.
That object must have just appeared. At this moment, the golden light was flashing rhythmically, perhaps communicating with something.
"Could that thing be the same as the one before?"
Qi Chen said in surprise, looking at the golden glowing ball. Feng Yuan furrowed his brows, grasping his weapon as he moved forward. As expected, the glowing ball began to move as Feng Yuan approached, even stopping on its own once a certain distance was maintained.
Staring at the stationary golden glowing ball, Feng Yuan sneered and said,
"Let’s go! Follow it and see who’s playing tricks here."
At that moment, curiosity outweighed the cautiousness against danger. Or rather, Feng Yuan believed that what the place showed them wasn’t particularly perilous to the group.
Nonetheless, he didn’t let Qi Chen and the others dismount from the White Wolf Deity. Although he himself wasn’t afraid, if anything happened, Qi Chen and the others would be in danger.
Led by the golden ball, they arrived at a place resembling a station. There were platforms and track structures, yet the nearly invisible tracks left Feng Yuan puzzled as to why such a design was necessary.
Indoors, this setup didn’t have much impact; the surrounding floor would make these hardly visible tracks more evident. But outside, it was different. Unless nothing was flying nearby, this construction could easily lead to an accidental collision during flight.
Before Feng Yuan examined the tracks, a train resembling a light rail entered the platform. Staring at the pristine carriage, Feng Yuan said with confusion,
"This thing looks like it hasn’t been used much."
Regardless of regular cleaning, such an almost pure white would show even the slightest stain. Yet, the train appeared spotless, as if fresh out of the factory, making Feng Yuan doubt its origin.
Something felt off; the entire city seemed to be in a similar state. Whatever it was, besides the necessary wear, it was all as pristine as the light rail.
Could this be possible?
It’s known that a city can’t be built entirely at once, yet everything here gave that exact impression.
Thinking of something, Feng Yuan glanced at the golden ball, wondering if this place...
The light rail slowly started, and aside from a subtle vibration, the train moved very smoothly. The almost invisible tracks kept the group from seeing where the train was headed, even from the front.
The White Wolf Deity and Veronia stayed close by Qi Chen and Dou Yanlan, unable to move in their enormous form here. Ah Mu and the others were also forced into the Beast Taming Space, which was relatively risky for the group.
Holding the Black Scythe, Feng Yuan nervously observed the surroundings, ready to act at the slightest sign of trouble.
There was no choice; after all, Qi Chen and the others were invited by him. If anything happened, he would be responsible, especially now with the space limitations affecting the White Wolf Deity’s combat power.
Gitalien, seeing Feng Yuan’s tense demeanor, wanted to say something, but eventually refrained. No use; the place felt off to it. Though the city was intact, it didn’t seem like anyone had lived here. Added to the oddity of this Parallel World, it couldn’t be sure if they might face an attack on the train.
Fortunately, Feng Yuan wasn’t some jinx for vehicles; the train, under the group’s tense atmosphere, safely reached the endpoint. Not far off stood the tall white tower. Just when Feng Yuan thought the golden ball would lead them to the tower, they were surprised to find it heading in the exact opposite direction.
At the entrance of a passage resembling an underground tunnel, the golden ball floated inside without hesitation. Seeing the neon signs hanging over the tunnel entrance, Feng Yuan scratched his head and said,
"This place shouldn’t have anything strange, right?"
"Theoretically, no, unless those man-made machines are almost human-like,"
Veronia said, throwing Feng Yuan a peculiar look. At first, Feng Yuan didn’t get Veronia’s implication, but seeing Qi Chen’s flushed face, he, understanding Veronia’s teasing, said helplessly,
"What nonsense are you talking about? I meant are there any unusual enemies down there, not... whatever you’re implying."
"Hmm, so is it me overthinking, or did your thoughts drift there?"
"Alright, let’s not go into this. This passage seems big enough. Qi Chen, just like before,"
Feng Yuan gestured, unwilling to squabble further on the subject with Veronia. Evaluating the tunnel entrance, he told Qi Chen. After getting off the train, the White Wolf Deity didn’t enlarge back to its original size immediately, fearing they’d have to follow the golden ball into the white tower.
While unseen ahead of the white tower, everyone was clear that the interior might not allow for the White Wolf Deity to move freely in its original size.
Thus initially, the White Wolf Deity hadn’t altered back to its full size. Now that they saw it was an underground passage, Feng Yuan promptly proposed this. Besides, he reckoned it unlikely for the passage to shrink further down, as the passage seemed substantial in size.Eliminar
