Divine Emperor Demon Emperor
Chapter 331: Difficult Adaptation
Besieged by the five Demon Beasts, Lin Yun and Little Ape were in a world of hurt. They had never seen Demon Beasts fight like Human Martial Artists before, and Lin Yun couldn’t adapt quickly enough.
Tier Three Demon Beasts were equivalent to Human Martial Artists at the Primordial Ocean Realm. Under normal circumstances, however, Demon Beasts weren’t this difficult to deal with because their fighting style was direct and easy to counter.
But these five Demon Beasts were completely different. Not only did they possess a Demon Beast’s physique, far surpassing that of a human, but they could also fight like one.
They observed Lin Yun and Little Ape’s attacks, adjusting their tactics or dodging accordingly. This made the fight considerably more difficult for the pair.
The biggest problem was their inability to adapt in time.
In the continuous, fierce battle, Lin Yun wielded his Demon Bone Heaven-Dominating Spear and managed to injure the five Demon Beasts, but he could never land a fatal blow. Every time he attacked, they would focus on protecting their vital areas, making it impossible for Lin Yun to finish them in one strike.
Besides, they were causing a huge commotion. God only knew if other Tier Three Demon Beasts were lurking nearby. If a few more showed up, Lin Yun would be utterly screwed.
’I have to find a way to escape,’ Lin Yun thought.
But escaping wouldn’t be easy. The five Demon Beasts had deliberately sealed off all of Lin Yun and Little Ape’s escape routes, precisely to prevent the pair from fleeing.
Time ticked by, second by agonizing second. With every moment that passed, Lin Yun worried that more Demon Beasts would arrive.
As the desperate struggle against the five Demon Beasts wore on, wounds began to accumulate on Lin Yun’s body, and Little Ape was in a similar state. These Demon Beasts were truly far more difficult to handle than those in the outside world.
After a fierce exchange, Lin Yun’s Demon Bone Heaven-Dominating Spear stabbed into the Thunder Tiger’s back. However, it was merely a flesh wound and caused no fatal damage.
Wounded by the stab, the Thunder Tiger roared, its body erupting with wild Lightning. Left with no choice, Lin Yun withdrew his spear and fell back. A full fifteen minutes had passed, yet he hadn’t managed to kill a single Demon Beast.
’I can’t drag this on any longer.’ Having made up his mind, Lin Yun looked at the five Demon Beasts surrounding him and had Little Ape shrink down and perch on his shoulder.
Unleashing Thunderfire Bombardment without hesitation, Lin Yun charged fiercely at the Thunder Tiger directly in front of him. His entire body became a blur of Flame and lightning as he shot straight toward the beast.
Sensing immense danger from the Thunderfire Bombardment, the Thunder Tiger didn’t meet the attack head-on. Instead, it cleverly chose to dodge.
The beast’s dodge opened a path in what had been a completely sealed encirclement. This was exactly the effect Lin Yun had been aiming for. He instantly burst out of the ring of five Demon Beasts and fled without a backward glance.
The beasts hadn’t expected Lin Yun’s move to be a feint, intended solely for escape. Activating his Qingfeng Body Technique, Lin Yun’s figure quickly vanished into the forest.
Watching helplessly as Lin Yun escaped, all five Demon Beasts let out furious roars. To them, Lin Yun and Little Ape were a meal delivered right to their mouths, yet the pair had escaped right under their noses.
After breaking out of the encirclement, Lin Yun didn’t pause for a second. He kept a vigilant watch on his surroundings as he sprinted into the distance.
After that ordeal, Lin Yun no longer dared to underestimate the creatures here. The Demon Beasts of Demon Beast Ridge were becoming freakishly clever, each one displaying incredible intelligence. Their behavior and fighting styles were more akin to humans than beasts.
He had no idea how far he’d run, but he made sure to stick to the outer edges of Demon Beast Ridge. Now was not the time to venture deeper. He wasn’t even confident he could kill a Tier Three Demon Beast, so rushing into the depths of the ridge would be tantamount to suicide.
He ran until he was certain the auras of the five Demon Beasts were gone, then finally found a secluded spot to stop.
HUFF... HUFF... HUFF... Gasping for air, Lin Yun muttered under his breath.
"Vice Hall Master of Punishment Hall, you’ve done well. I’ll remember you for this. What the hell kind of punishment is this? I refuse to believe any Disciple has ever been sent into this Demon Beast Ridge before."
Lin Yun pinned all the blame on the Vice Hall Master of Punishment Hall, completely unaware that the true culprit was Luo Feng.
Meanwhile, Luo Feng was admiring the flowers and the moon in the courtyard of a Main Seat Elder from the Flawless Palace. It went without saying that this Main Seat Elder was yet another of Luo Feng’s female confidantes—a stunningly beautiful woman.
Having successfully shaken off the five Demon Beasts, Lin Yun no longer dared to act so carelessly in Demon Beast Ridge. For the rest of the night, he and Little Ape hid in a dense thicket, forgoing a fire and remaining vigilant of their surroundings.
No further danger arose. With the help of a Rejuvenating Pill, Lin Yun and Little Ape’s injuries were no longer a major concern. They had only sustained superficial wounds, with no damage to their vitals.
As the sun rose in the east, Lin Yun and Little Ape started moving through Demon Beast Ridge once more. This time, however, Lin Yun was far from casual, remaining constantly on guard against sudden attacks from Demon Beasts.
The Demon Beasts of this ridge were all freakishly clever. In just one short week, Lin Yun was already at his wit’s end.
In just seven days, Lin Yun had been ambushed by Demon Beasts no fewer than ten times. He was on the verge of cursing their mothers. What the hell kind of Demon Beasts were these?
Who ever heard of a Demon Beast that runs away when it knows it can’t win?
The Demon Beasts here did exactly that. Not only were they masters of concealment, but they were also adept at hiding their auras. What drove Lin Yun craziest was that a beast would sometimes charge out, only to turn tail and flee the instant it realized it was no match for him and Little Ape.
The first time he saw a Golden Lion turn tail and run, Lin Yun and Little Ape were left completely dumbfounded. ’Was this damn thing really a Demon Beast?’ After a single exchange, it realized it was outmatched and just bolted?
And forget about them just running away. The most infuriating part was that Little Ape’s bloodline suppression had no effect. The moment the Demon Beasts sensed it, they would scatter, only to trail the pair from a distance, looking for another opportunity to strike.
Speechless and frustrated, Lin Yun felt like he was on the verge of a breakdown after being toyed with by these beasts for seven days. These couldn’t be called normal Demon Beasts anymore; they were complete aberrations.
They could coordinate in teams, they knew when to retreat, and they even knew to call for backup. Upon realizing they were outmatched, the Demon Beasts here would go recruit others to gang up on Lin Yun and Little Ape.
Escaping yet another coordinated attack, Lin Yun found himself constantly ambushed. At the same time, however, he was rapidly adapting to the Demon Beasts of Demon Beast Ridge.
Although he was adapting quickly, the process was incredibly frustrating.
"You’re good, Vice Hall Master of Punishment Hall, you’re really something. This isn’t a punishment, you’re just toying with me! You just wait. When I break through to the Celestial Spirit Realm, I swear I’ll make you come live in this Demon Beast Ridge for a year!"
With all this pent-up anger and no outlet for his strength, all Lin Yun could do was furiously curse the Vice Hall Master of Punishment Hall. It was just so damn frustrating! The Demon Beasts here were practically sentient, smarter than humans even. How the hell was he supposed to deal with this?
And most importantly, the ones he had encountered so far were only Tier Three Demon Beasts. What would happen if he ran into a Tier Four Demon Beast? What would he do then?
