Doomsday Jigsaw Puzzle
Chapter 586 - 203: Back to the Human World
To return to the real world and collect pieces of the Doomsday Puzzle, one needed a way to re-enter the Well.
Bai Wu had speculated on this method initially, but never had the time to search the texts to confirm this guess.
Luckily, the tyrant had not been idle during this period.
He had long found a way to leave the Well World, and, in fact, this method was very similar to how humans left The Era of the High Tower.
Teleportation Stele, Return Roulette.
Everything corresponded with the High Tower.
The only difference was that the Teleportation Stele had to be crafted by Bai Wu himself.
There used to be a Teleportation Stele here, but the problem was that once it existed, others could potentially use the Return Roulette to break through the limitations and directly reach the fourth layer of the Well World.
Therefore, the High Tower Master later destroyed the Teleportation Stele but left behind the methods to create everything else in texts scattered in other locations.
"Indeed, he was a genius of the past civilization."
The tyrant handed over those texts, and after Bai Wu had flipped through them, he felt the mystery within them.
In a sense, the roulette could be considered one of the most important tools for humanity during The Era of the High Tower.
To create a stele that merely functioned as an exit wasn’t difficult.
It wasn’t on the same level as the one that had to be built by The First Generation and others.
Being able to forge the Seven Sins Weapons, and having comprehended the Sequence Protocol, had already made Bai Wu’s relationship with the Twisted extremely close.
He felt as though he had progressed from merely sensing the Twisted to mastering it.
Therefore, crafting these bizarre items was even less difficult for Bai Wu.
In just half a day, Bai Wu completed the Return Roulette and placed the stele at the top of the Inverse Tower.
Those who held pieces of the Doomsday Puzzle and the Seven Sins Weapons could travel from the bottom to the fifth layer of the Well World.
Those with the Return Roulette could teleport back to the human world from the top.
"We will meet again, I believe when I reach the fifth layer, I’ll be able to unravel many mysteries. What the Well truly is... what the Evil Fallen Body signifies."
"It’s just that I don’t know how the world will be after everything is revealed."
The tyrant said nothing; during these days of interacting with Bai Wu, the two had adopted a stance of each doing their own thing.
Watching Bai Wu continually delve deeper, remembering their various encounters, he gradually acknowledged this human.
"I remember mentioning before that if an Evil Fallen and a human mutually acknowledge each other, the human will inherit the Evil Fallen’s memories at the moment of transformation. Will that happen to us?"
"I think I’ll likely become an Evil Fallen in the upcoming battles, won’t I?"
Bai Wu looked at the tyrant before parting.
The tyrant thought about the question seriously and then slowly shook his head:
"We may acknowledge each other, but can’t yet reach that step. Perhaps in the future, you will meet someone like that. Or maybe you already have."
Bai Wu reflected on this.
On the verge of returning to the real world, about to see those long-lost acquaintances, he felt somewhat excited.
This journey in the Well World had been incredibly long.
The Ten of Spades, Jing Liu, the Seventh Consortiums, the Seven Sins, the Rebel Army, the tyrant...
Bai Wu rarely felt such a sense of vicissitude:
"Until next time."
"Until next time."
The stele emitted colorful light, and Bai Wu’s figure was engulfed by the glow.
His journey in the Well World, for now, came to an end.
...
...
The real world, an unknown region.
When the Teleportation Stele engulfed Bai Wu, he reappeared at the edge of the High Tower battlefield.
The sky was bright, and the dazzling sunlight heralded the arrival of summer.
Before, the temperature here could have cooked a person within minutes, but after the death of the Seven Sins, it had returned to normal.
Bai Wu looked at the surrounding "shell" and pondered.
"Is this what they call... emerging from a chrysalis?"
After entering the Well World, there actually were no people left within the shell.
But when he returned from the Well World, Bai Wu appeared inside the shell again.
Only now the shell had cracked.
He was truly, in every sense of the word, the Jing Qi chosen by Alpha.
Human, a human of the Well World, the successor of the Order’s Revelation, the Jing Qi of the Twisters...
Bai Wu found his identity rather complicated.
Bai Wu began to search for a direction for himself.
So he resorted to his old method—looking in all four directions. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
However, this time, his eyes did not dawdle in ink, and as Bai Wu looked into the distance, the remark supplement was exceptionally strong:
"The past me took one step and saw one step, but the current me takes one step and sees four. Please call me Prayle’s Eye 2.0 pro enhanced limited edition.
Shortly after you step into the real world, though I still cannot see the ultimate causality clearly, your appearance has indeed caused many things to change. Therefore, you will be noticed.
My old pal, we need to hurry to Black Gold Island now. Your buddies are gathering Doomsday Puzzle fragments; they have already done most of the work for you. The last thing, you need to go to Black Gold Island to take away the Doomsday Puzzle fragments that... five had collected once upon a time.]
Even though the Evil Fallen could only use a limited number of fragments, that does not prevent them from collecting fragments.
And for seven hundred years, aside from Jing Liu and Jing Yi, who were busy comparing causality and fighting amongst each other, it was Jing Wu who had been the most active.
This time there were no descriptions of directions like northeast, southwest; Prayle’s Eye had already directly marked the destination for Bai Wu.
"It seems the Doomsday Puzzle fragments have nearly all been gathered? How is that possible..."
Bai Wu found it strange, knowing only he himself knew that to proceed to the fifth layer, one needed to gather puzzle fragments and Seven Sins weapons.
After his own "death," in theory, both the shelter forces and the Ark forces should be focused on other matters.
Does this mean that someone knows everything that happened within him in the Well?
Bai Wu thought of something, became excited, and began heading towards Black Gold Island.
"It seems, my appearance may indeed catalyze some changes... I need to be quick."
...
...
Food City Harbor.
Those cruise ships moored at the harbor were long since unusable.
Thus, the massive Hydra, Gu Hailin, had become everyone’s "boat."
On the gigantic nine heads of the Hydra, every face was filled with worry.
Heading to Black Gold Island, a battle was inevitable.
This battle was naturally not going to be as smooth as the previous ones.
Previously, with Nie Chongshan and Wu Jiu, all Fragment Guardians were swiftly defeated in a single stroke.
But this time it was Jing Wu.
The monster that once nearly destroyed the shelter and almost completely extinguished humanity.
Zheng Yue looked at Wu Jiu’s back:
"Are we now heading toward the domain of that Jing Wu?"
Wu Jiu nodded:
"Are you afraid?"
"A bit scared, although it seems he has never beaten humankind, I always feel... every time it’s because of Bai Wu."
Zheng Yue did not have a Catwoman like Wu Jiu, who was with him for nearly half a lifetime, saving him countless times.
He did not have an Evil Fallen Body ready to forsake its own existence to devote everything to Wu Jiu.
He also lacked the breakthrough outside of the Tower.
Wu Jiu was a hardworking prodigy, but to become Wu Jiu also required fortuitous encounters.
So Zheng Yue always believed that replicating Wu Jiu’s experiences was too difficult.
There would not be a second Wu Jiu in the world.
"I’m not you, and even if I were you, able to defeat the Mechanical City version of Jing Wu, the Baichuan City version of Jing Wu, I still wouldn’t be able to defeat the Jing Wu from the High Tower battle."
During the High Tower battle, Jing Wu almost cornered humanity into a dead end with the terrifying Disassemble Everything.
If it wasn’t for the mirror Evil Fallen, if it wasn’t for Bai Wu, everything would be difficult to say.
Wu Jiu said:
"We need the fragment of the Doomsday Puzzle; Cain has already handed over the ones he collected to us, and now only the one from Black Gold Island is missing,"
"I’m just worried that we can’t beat it. Among those present, only you and Nie Chongshan... have crossed that threshold, but what can ordinary people like us do in the face of Disassemble Everything?"
Sitting atop the huge serpent scales, Zheng Yue chose to simply sit down.
He used to stand taller than Wu Jiu, but now that Wu Jiu has turned into a crimson Evil Fallen, even when standing, he isn’t as tall as Wu Jiu.
Sensing Zheng Yue’s worries, Wu Jiu calmly said,
"Nothing will go wrong with me here."
The crimson blade seemed as if it could cut through everything. Over these days, Zheng Yue had been observing Wu Jiu.
He always felt that Wu Jiu had changed, yet he also felt that deep within his heart, he remained unchanged.
He couldn’t understand:
"Forget it, forget it... The Doomsday Puzzle fragment had better truly be worth our lives, it had better truly show its value before the world is destroyed."
"It will,"
"If only Bai Wu were here," Zheng Yue suddenly thought.
Wu Jiu shook his head, not speaking.
At this moment, Bai Wu would likely still be in the Well.
Crimson didn’t know what the fourth layer of the Well World contained, but he knew that the Tyrant knew how to enter it.
And the Tyrant would certainly lead Bai Wu into the deeper levels.
So all of this was also known to Wu Jiu, who had inherited Crimson’s memories.
But whether it be Wu Jiu, Crimson, or even the Tyrant, they all believed that the fourth layer of the Well World would take a considerable amount of time for Bai Wu.
So Bai Wu couldn’t possibly appear at this moment.
In the eyes of many, Bai Wu and Li You had already died in the process of resisting Alpha for the sake of humanity.
Zheng Yue didn’t know any of this; he just felt,
"Bai Wu defeated Jing Wu time and again. If I were Jing Wu... If I saw Bai Wu, I would probably have a psychological shadow."
...
...
Black Gold Island.
The islands’ surroundings are lashed by ocean waves, and the sound of the tide can’t hide the roaring of the Evil Fallen in the Slaves’ Great Hall at the heart of Black Gold Island.
At the core of the island, hidden below the sea level, lies the warehouse constructed by the merchants with the Currency of Fear and the furnace where the blacksmiths smelted weapons.
After the talents had left, life for the Island Master became more and more monotonous.
Because of Black Gold Island’s teleportation array, a batch of Evil Fallen was regularly transported here, and then they would become the slaves of Black Gold Island.
These tasks used to be the responsibility of the merchants and blacksmiths.
But now, no one takes care of the island.
The monsters teleported here don’t understand why they’re brought here.
But they can sense that on this island, there exists a terrifying being so powerful that they will never be able to surpass it in their lifetimes.
The Evil Fallen, transported here without explanation, believe the Ancient Greek-styled Slaves’ Great Hall at the heart of the island is the temple of a god.
This notion has gained acceptance among many Evil Fallen, and the god... is on this very island.
Their purpose for coming here is to become the servants of this god.
This belief may be due to the writing inside the hall of the slaves.
In any case, this claim grew more and more preposterous, until at last, the monsters on the island fought among themselves, convinced that only the strong could win the god’s pity.
And only those who won the god’s pity could obtain the treasures on the island.
As for the Island Master—the Jing Wu who was repeatedly defeated by Bai Wu—he didn’t care at all about what was happening above.
Jing Wu had undergone a great change.
The Jing Wu of today was merely recuperating on Black Gold Island, deciding to be like his elder brother, a recluse who never sets foot outside his door.
Yes, after his first defeat by Bai Wu, Jing Wu learned to stay calm, abandoning his proud nature.
He no longer looked down on humans. Even when attacking Baichuan City, Jing Wu showed his wariness of humans.
The second defeat was at the hands of Jing Si, which made Jing Wu realize something: to secure his standing, he needed to grasp even higher rules of power.
Then came the third time, on the flight, where Jing Wu lost once more.
With each loss, Jing Wu reflected and grew.
Perhaps if his trajectory were written into history, it would be a history of fancy defeats by Bai Wu.
But with every defeat, Jing Wu had grown.
By the time it came to the battle to defend the High Tower, Jing Wu’s strength had reached a terrifying level.
Disassemble Everything had been controlled more and more maturely. He was even capable of destroying the entire High Tower Allied Forces on his own.
Yet, this time, Jing Wu was defeated again.
Defeated by the Bai Wu that descended from the sky, defeated by that Bai Wu who’d absorbed Zhou Zeshui’s life force and could freely unleash the Twisted Realm...
Jing Wu saw no hope.
That kind of Bai Wu possessed a power that was even higher than Legendary Tier Entry, an Origin Level power.
How could he possibly cope with this?
This had truly become Jing Wu’s nightmare.
Many times Jing Wu would wake up from his sleep, startled by one of two nightmares.
The first was the blacksmith merchant who seemed to be exiled to a world that would become weaker and weaker.
In that world, both the blacksmith and the merchant struggled to survive, but they continuously became weaker.
He didn’t know why, but he, who was always heartless, would one day increasingly miss his former subordinates.
The second was being defeated by Bai Wu, defeated by Bai Wu over and over again, giving Jing Wu a sort of Bai Wu PTSD.
On this day, the noise on Black Gold Island was great, and Jing Wu’s injuries had fully recovered.
Looking at the various types of primitive energy materials floating around, he sneered at himself.
Another defeat, yet another insight gained.
The powers of Disassemble Everything and Reconstruction had once again been refined.
But it all seemed meaningless now.
He felt rather lonely. It would be fine if the island were silent as death.
But from the great hall at the center of the island, there would always be some noise.
Jing Wu couldn’t be bothered with these noises. Using Disassemble Everything, he could easily reconstruct new blacksmiths and merchants. He had done this before but felt it could not make up for anything.
So today should have been like any other day, paying no attention.
But amid the noise, Jing Wu faintly heard words like High Tower and Bai Wu.
It was as if the nightmare that was supposed to have ended still refused to let go of him. Even after waking up, it continued to torment him in reality.
Jing Wu’s anger surged instantly. Why was Bai Wu everywhere?
So on this day, the master of Black Gold Island descended upon the slave hall at the heart of the island.
All the Evil Fallen knelt on the ground. They saw the terrifying energy floating beside Jing Wu, saw the formidable power that seemed able to split everything with just a thought.
Jing Wu made some inquiries and learned about the circumstances surrounding Bai Wu, receiving an unexpected answer.
Bai Wu was dead.
It turned out that the Evil Fallen who mentioned Bai Wu was a member of the Investigation Corps.
The battle at the High Tower that day ended with the return of Alpha to the human world, resulting in a great retreat for humanity.
Although those who died were saved by Qian Yixin, others became Evil Fallen during the process.
Not everyone boarded the Ark; some became Evil Fallen wandering near the battlefield.
These Evil Fallen witnessed Alpha sealing Bai Wu. But later, the shells cracked...
The person inside the shells had disappeared. In the eyes of these Evil Fallen, their deputy commander Bai Wu, who once guarded them, had lost his life in battle.
"Bai Wu is dead."
The last member of the Investigation Corps said these words with some regret, recognizing Jing Wu.
But now that he had been suddenly transported to this place, if he wanted to survive, he could only accept reality.
What else could he do? Having been transferred to a place like Black Gold Island, could he really hope for rescue?
Having become an Evil Fallen, there was no returning to the life among humankind.
So he told everything that had happened on the outskirts of the High Tower after Jing Wu was defeated.
Jing Wu’s body trembled, perhaps from too much excitement:
"Are you telling the truth? Bai Wu... is dead?!"
