Dual Awakening: Elemental and Beast Transformation Paths
Chapter 42: A Small Problem Before the Test
Delvia Town, Skyline Arena.
"So, this is where the test will take place, huh?" Ren said as he looked at the arena before him.
"So big!" Elara stated.
Ren and Elara were currently standing in front of the arena.
The arena was huge and built similarly to an ancient colosseum. More than a hundred teenagers were heading to the entrance gate at the same time.
Some of them were excited, some were calm, while a few were nervous. The test would determine their future, so they had different kinds of reactions.
As Ren and Elara were skimming their surroundings with curious expressions, three youngsters walked in arrogantly.
The blue-haired and green-haired kids pushed everyone in front of them aside forcefully, while the red-haired teenager behind them was smirking smugly.
They didn’t care if those people got hurt or fell to the ground because it was their fault for blocking the red-haired kid’s path.
"Move! Move!"
"Hey! How dare you block Lucas’s path! Are you asking for a beating?"
"You, weakling! Get out of Lucas’ way!"
Mason and Caleb kicked and pushed everyone in front of them aside without a shred of care.
They didn’t bother even when those people shot them cold glares, because Lucas was with them.
Lucas was the strongest newly awakened mage in their district and had never lost a fight before, so they believed they were safe as long as Lucas was with them.
This was also the reason they became his lackeys because clinging to him could give them a better future.
"Move, asshole! You are standing in Lucas’s path!" Mason kicked the brown-haired teenager’s butt hard, causing him to fall onto the ground.
The brown-haired kid was enraged and gritted his teeth in fury.
When Lucas noticed his angry gaze, he immediately said, "What’s with that look? You wanna fight?"
The brown-haired kid was from the same district as him, so he knew how strong Lucas was. For this reason, he could only suppress his fury because he was weaker than Lucas.
"Tch! Coward!" Lucas scoffed.
Mason and Caleb continued to pave the way for Lucas.
At the same time, Ren was talking with Elara. Her eyes shone brightly because she had never seen a building as big and grand as the arena before.
"Let’s try our best to get first and second places!" Ren said with a smile.
"Un. I will do my be- "Before Elara had finished her words, Caleb kicked her butt.
Thud!
She was pushed to the side.
Luckily, Ren managed to catch her on time, so she didn’t fall to the ground.
"Don’t get in the way!" Caleb glanced at her arrogantly.
Without waiting for another second, Ren rushed toward Caleb and kicked his head hard.
Bang!
Blood splashed out of his mouth as he was sent flying into the air.
The other participants stopped their footsteps and turned their heads when Caleb’s body crashed to the ground and rolled not far from them.
But even so, none of them tried to help him or attack Ren because they didn’t want to get involved in something unrelated to them.
On the other side, Mason and Lucas were shocked by what was going on. The moment they realized Caleb was unconscious, their surprised expressions turned angry.
"How dare you attack him!" Lucas shouted at Ren angrily.
"Blame him for doing something he shouldn’t have done." There was no sign of pity in Ren’s eyes because he would show no mercy to anyone who dared to harm Elara.
Mason gritted his teeth in fury before finally charging at Ren.
"Die!" He wanted to teach Ren a lesson for attacking Caleb, so he rushed toward him without thinking twice.
However, he was much slower, so he was hit in the chest before his fist landed on Ren’s face.
Bang!
Mason dropped to his knees as blood came out of his mouth.
His face instantly went pale, and he struggled to breathe.
Not only that, but he also could not stand up immediately because the pain had turned his body weak and helpless.
’It hurts!’
He had been hit by people his age before, but the pain from Ren’s punch was on a completely different level.
It was as if he was not hit by a teenager, but by a bullet train.
"You should not act arrogantly with this level of skill!" Ren glanced at him coldly.
Lucas, who could not suppress his anger anymore, roared angrily. "I will kill you!"
The moment Elara saw Lucas lifting his staff, she shifted into her partial transformation and rushed toward him.
Like Ren, she also cared about his safety.
She would not let anyone harm him, so she stepped in when Lucas tried to launch a sneak attack.
"Since you have the audacity to come at me, then I will beat you first." Lucas changed his target to Elara.
Ren’s eyes turned cold as a blue sphere of water formed before Lucas’ staff. He didn’t want Elara to get injured, so he dashed toward Lucas right away.
"Good! I will finish you both at once!" Even though two shifters came at him together, Lucas showed no sign of panic because he saw Ren and Elara as weaklings.
While Lucas was preparing to attack them, Ren and Elara were also ready to strike him. They didn’t hold back themselves because they knew none of them would show any mercy.
But before they launched their strikes, a powerful pressure suddenly came down on them, forcing them to stop.
Boom!
Their bodies froze mid-movement, and Lucas’ water ball vanished without a trace.
When they were in a state of shock, the silver-haired man appeared beside them and spoke, "Fighting is forbidden before the test."
The trio forced themselves to turn their heads toward the grown man. They were unhappy with his actions, but none of them said a word.
Once the silver-haired man released his pressure, Lucas placed his palms on his knees and breathed heavily.
’Test overseer?’
Lucas recognized him by the symbol on his chest.
His lips instantly curled up into a grin because it was a good opportunity to make Ren and Elara unable to take the test.
"Sir, he beat my friends for no reason. I just want justice for them." Lucas pointed his finger at his lackeys.
Overseer looked at them before shifting his gaze to Ren. "Is that true?"
"I beat up the green-haired guy because he kicked her out of the blue. As for that blue-haired one, he attacked me first. I was just defending myself." Ren didn’t deny it.
"Lies! We were only heading to the entrance gate. We didn’t do anything to her!" Lucas twisted the facts.
"I’m not lying!" Ren’s eyes grew colder as his gaze fell on Lucas.
"Ren is telling the truth!" Elara added. "That guy kicked me earlier, so Ren taught him a lesson. That blue-haired man wanted to seek revenge, but he was much weaker than Ren, so he ended up getting beaten up too."
The grown man fell silent for a moment.
There were no CCTV cameras outside the arena, so he didn’t know who among them was lying.
At this moment, the brown-haired kid approached them slowly. He was still furious at Lucas and his underlings, so he decided to help Ren and Elara.
"They are not lying, Sir. Lucas and his lackeys are the ones at fault." He began explaining what they had done to Ren, Elara, and the others. "If you don’t believe me, you can ask them. They are also victims like me."
"Yes! His underlings kicked me earlier!"
"Me too! He pushed me until I fell to the ground!"
"They did the same to my friends." 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Since the test overseer was present, they dared to speak out about what Lucas’ lackeys had done to them.
"You! You!" Lucas’ face was red from anger.
He wanted to beat them up so badly, but he could not do that because the test overseer was in front of him.
The silver-haired man shifted his attention to Lucas and asked coldly, "Did you lie to me?"
The moment Lucas saw his furious gaze, he dropped to his knees and begged for forgiveness. "I was wrong. Please forgive me. Please don’t kick me out of this test."
With so many people exposing his actions, he could not hide the truth or twist it, so he chose to admit it.
"So, you tried to trick me, huh?" the test overseer was enraged because a participant dared to try to fool him.
"Please forgive me. I promise not to make the same mistake again." Lucas knew his actions would ruin his reputation, but he had no other choice because the test was so important for his future.
As long as he could get accepted by the Elemental Organization, he could prevent them from revealing the events later, including the overseer.
When the grown man was about to say something, the bell signaling the start of the test rang out.
He looked at the arena before returning his gaze to Lucas. "You are lucky, kid!"
Lucas let out a sigh of relief, while his victims were disappointed because the overseer didn’t kick him out of the test.
"Get into the arena now!" The grown man shouted. "The test will begin soon."
Upon hearing his words, the other participants rushed toward the entrance gate.
Once the silver-haired man left, Lucas rose to his feet and stared at Ren angrily. "I will beat you after the test!"
"I’m waiting." Ren still acted normally because Lucas was not a threat to him.
After Lucas took his lackeys to the arena, Ren turned to Elara.
"Let’s head inside." Ren’s expression was completely different from before, as if nothing had happened.
"Un." Elara nodded.
Then, the duo headed to the entrance gate together.
