Dungeon Of Greed
Chapter 38: Voice Of The Gods
Smirking Dhruv moved closer to them and gripped their shoulder.
This sudden interaction put the duo in alarm as they quickly moved a distance away from him.
Seeing this, Dhruv smiled and assured them, "Relax, I won’t bite... unless you want me to. I’m just joking, I’ve had my fill."
Sensing no hostility in his words, the duo relaxed a bit and nodded their head.
Dhruv moved and grabbed them by the shoulder and activated the skill. As he was about to vanish, he turned toward the warrior and told him to take care of Lucian and informed him when the evolution finished.
Teleporting away, the group appeared in the throne room. Leaving them on the ground, Dhruv climbed the stairs and sat on the throne.
"Suit yourself... we will talk after I check something." Putting his elbow on the armrest, he first inspected the notifications that had piled up in front of him.
[You have successfully defended the core.]
[You have awarded 1000 Dungeon points.]
[You have evolved to tier II.]
[You have awakened your quirk.]
[Dhruv, do you inspect the Quirk?]
’Sure, why not...’ As he gave the confirmation, a panel appeared in front of him.
<------------------------------------>
[Name: Dhruv]
[Species: Daitya]
[Level: 0/10 (0%) (Tier: II)]
[Stats: Strength: 7, Agility: 6, Stamina: 7, Spirit: 23]
[Authority: [Greed],[Dungeon Master], [Rot]
[Quirk: Echo Of The Past]
[Skills: Covetous Tongue Lv. 1, Pick-Pocket Lv. 1, Summon Lv. 5, Basic Rot Manipulation Lv. 1, Basic Rot Resistance Lv. 1, Wither Lv. 1]
[Dungeon: Dungeon Of Greed]
<------------------------------------>
Not wanting to neglect too much of his physical capabilities, Dhruv chose to distribute the 5 unallocated stats into strength and stamina in the ratio of 2 and 3, respectively.
’So what is this echo of the past thing...’ Anticipating what was to come, Dhruv clicked on the quirk, prompting the system to explain everything.
[Echo Of The Past: Memories are never truly lost—only waiting to be heard again. Echo of the Past grants you an extraordinary memory, enabling perfect recollection of any event you have personally witnessed.]
[Passive Ability: Your exceptional memory won’t let you forget anything.]
At first, Dhruv didn’t know whether to be happy about this quirk or not. At first glance, having an expectational memory appears as a blessing... but there is a reason humans have evolved in a way to avoid remembering everything.
The memory overload is the least of their problem.
’But wait a second, I’m not a human anymore... There is magic in this world, and I can use it to overcome some of the limitations. And if the world were to be in a primitive state like in the stories, I can use the knowledge from Earth to my advantage.’
Being optimistic about this power, Dhruv tried forgetting about its cons, but due to his quirk, he couldn’t do it
What was even better about this quirk is that there was more to it. Aside from a passive ability... There was an active ability tied to it as well.
[Active Ability: You can return to any specific memories and interact with the world around them. It is just an artificial world; so no amount of action can change the past and affect the future.]
Furrowing his brows, he almost blurted out in excitement, but controlled himself.
’Why the fuck is it so broken... if it works, I think... then wouldn’t I be able to access the entirety of the earth’s knowledge?’ Thinking it can’t be this broken, and there must be a catch, Dhruv wanted to check the ability. Seeing the pair in front, he calmed his curiosity down.
Closing the panel, he looked at the duo and opened his mouth, "First of all, I would like to apologize to you that I won’t be able to revive any more of your classmates."
"What... why?" Confused, Misha asked him.
"Because of the passing of time, the essence surrounding them had depleted, making it unable for the dungeon to reconstruct them." Shaking his head, Dhruv tried to appear as honest as possible.
Obviously, this was bullshit. If he wanted, he could still revive all of the hunters, but chose not to do it.
’They can’t directly attack me... but if there were to be more of them than the chances of a conspiracy happening could be much. I can monitor two of them easily, but with more, it would be difficult.’
’ I don’t want civil unrest in my dungeon.’
Thinking, he looked at the duo as they had they seemed to shrink beneath the weight of the news. Misha was praying to her god, while Michael had lowered his head in silence.
Letting them have their time, Dhruv connected with the Matriarch and asked.
[How many of your children are alive?]
[4 adults. 3 Warriors.]
[Okay.]
As they slowly pulled themselves from the pain, Dhruv looked at them and asked, "How did you find the dungeon?"
Hearing the question, Michael’s first thought was to remain silent. He didn’t want to give any information to the monster. But as he saw Misha looking at him with a pleading gaze, he sighed.
’If I can’t appear to be useful... he could kill us.’ Glancing at her, he opened his mouth, "The entrance of the dungeon is marked with a sigil on the ground."
Scratching his chin, Dhruv asked, "Can it be covered?"
"No.." Michael shakes his head.
"Are you sure?"
Hesitatingly, Michael confessed, "There might be one. But I don’t know."
"Hmm! Good enough, I guess... do you know any cube with these descriptions?" Saying, Dhruv began explaining to him about the cube and how it functioned. Of course, he didn’t tell them its ability to bring one back to life.
Once again, Michael shakes his head, "I don’t know... There are countless artifacts in the world, and I don’t think this is a well-known one. Some dealing with information might be able to tell you more about it."
’No luck here... huh!’ Nodding his head, he asked the second most important question.
"Do you see a panel in front of you as well..."
Dhruv wanted to know whether he was the only one with the system or if everyone in the world had one.
Confused by the question, Michael looked at him and opened his mouth, "Do you mean the voice of the gods?"
