Elf Kingdom: Game of the World Tree
Chapter 1425 - 894: Is This a Rebellion?! (Part 2)
If one surveyed the whole of Dorolia Castle, they would find that the moment the prisoners from the dungeons joined the battle, the castle garrison almost collapsed at the first touch.
Bad news came one after another from every corner of the castle; scarcely had a soldier reported that the rioting prisoners had broken through one area, when another soldier rushed in, terrified, to report that they had already taken the next.
As the Prison Director of the entire Dorolia Prison, Aixendorf could practically picture it all from the soldiers’ reports alone: prisoners sweeping through like a hot knife through butter, rampaging through the castle and charging toward the upper towers.
It was worth mentioning that the eight towers were the core of Dorolia Castle Prison; the nodes of the defensive Magic, and the drawbridge mechanisms controlling the castle gates, were all housed within the towers.
However, those nodes and drawbridge mechanisms were likewise within the protective range of the [Dorolia Barrier].
Of course, the core control room that governed the entire defensive Magic was located inside the castle proper.
There, the Legendary Mage Daniel was stationed.
Listening to one bad report after another, Prison Director Aixendorf’s expression grew uglier and uglier.
The defensive nodes and drawbridges had Magic protecting them, but they did not.
If the prisoners fought their way up to the towers, they would be in real trouble...
He clenched his teeth, raised his command sword, and ordered the soldiers:
"Quick! Close the gates leading to the lower levels of the castle, we can’t let them reach the towers!"
"Notify Lord Daniel, tell him the prisoners are rioting, have him seal the control room doors and beware of a sneak attack!"
With a single order from the Prison Director, the castle garrison sprang into action at once.
They diverted most of their forces to begin sealing off every passage from the castle to the towers, and engaged the prisoners who had already begun invading the upper levels of the castle.
In an instant, chaotic battle erupted within Dorolia Castle.
And deep within the castle, in front of the core control room that governed all of Dorolia’s defensive Magic—
"Wolf Claw" Charles, holding his blood-dripping broken blade, narrowed his eyes, gave a furious shout, and cleaved open the door before him.
Stone fragments scattered, the great door burst open, revealing a hall adorned by one exquisite Magic lamp after another.
And at the center of the hall, upon a huge and intricate Magic Array, an old man with graying hair, dressed in a snow-white mage robe, sat cross-legged at the very heart of the Array.
In front of him, Magic Power was projecting scene after scene—images of the melee inside Dorolia Castle, and of the rebels in Maniya City storming the towers...
Hearing the noise at the door, the old man lifted his head slightly and locked eyes with Charles.
What entered Charles’s sight was an aged face and a pair of turbid eyes.
"You’ve come, Charles..."
The old man spoke softly, his voice hoarse and timeworn, yet at the same time carrying a detached, transcendent calm.
Charles’s expression grew solemn.
He tightened his grip on the broken blade in his hand and looked warily at the old man in the room.
Meanwhile, all the information he had on the other party flashed through his mind like a revolving lantern...
He knew this Legendary Mage stationed in Dorolia Castle.
No—rather than "stationed," "in seclusion" was perhaps more accurate.
Daniel von Treis.
He was a member of the current Imperial Family’s Treis Family, a Prince who had renounced his right to the throne more than two hundred years ago, and a Magic prodigy known to all.
His strength was unfathomable; he almost never appeared in the Empire, yet his status was exalted, and he was hailed as the Guardian of the Imperial Family.
And in over two hundred years, he had only taken action three times.
Once when a Red Dragon of Legendary Power attacked the King City.
Once when a plague broke out in the Holy Mania Empire.
Once when Maria II ascended the throne and the great Legendary nobles launched a rebellion, bathing the Royal City in blood.
It was precisely because of his existence that the Treis Family could remain firmly seated upon the Emperor’s throne.
For he was, without question, the number one Legendary Mage in the entire Empire!
Feeling the abyssal, oceanic Magic Power emanating from Daniel, Charles’s scalp tingled.
However, the very fact that he stood here meant he had already decided to fight this Legendary Mage.
This was a battle that had to be fought.
If he did not defeat the other, he could not shut down the Dorolia Barrier; and if the Dorolia Barrier was not shut down, Dorolia Castle could never truly be breached...
Of course, on any normal day, facing such an unfathomable Legendary Mage, he would have absolutely no chance of victory.
But right now, the other side was distracted, unable to disengage from controlling the defensive Magic, and he... did not come without a trump card!
With that thought, Charles’s expression hardened.
He gave a furious roar, and his body suddenly swelled, muscles bulging, fur bursting forth; in the blink of an eye, he transformed from a burly middle-aged man into a Werewolf towering three meters tall!
His strength also surged, shattering the limits of the Golden Rank and stepping into Legend...
This was his Werewolf form.
Though it could last for less than fifteen minutes, in those fifteen minutes—whether by defeating Daniel, or by destroying the Magic core amid battle with Daniel—the final victor would be him.
And since he stood here, he had naturally already prepared himself to perish together with the other side.
"Lord Daniel, your great name precedes you. ’Wolf Claw’ Charles has come to witness the bearing of the Guardian of the Imperial Family!"
He gave a slight bow, then raised the broken blade in his hand, pointing it at the Legendary Mage Daniel.
Yet the Legendary Mage Daniel seemed to have almost no reaction.
