Chapter 43: Memories

Xiran knew she was responsible but he never thought she would confess so blatantly to it. Xiran took out his cell phone and called Frila telling her to escort Maxile back to her room so he could talk to Treia alone.

Once they were alone Xiran advanced toward her and stopping a few inches from her he asked in utter disgust: "Why?"

Treia looked him directly in the eyes before speaking: "Because you had cast me aside since her arrival. You replaced me with her after everything I have done for you. After I have given you the prime years of my life."

"I never cast you aside, your punishment was aimed to help you grow as a person and not belittle others. And you came to me of your own accord, you signed the contract of your own free will. I never forced you. Every year I asked you to leave and spend your life freely, not bound to me. You refuse to leave every year. I didn’t want you to give me all those years of your life, I didn’t ask for them. That was your choice." Xiran glared at her.

"That’s because I am so freaking in love with you. I offered you my heart and you trampled all over it. I blindly did whatever you asked me and yet you preferred her, whom you have known for only two months." Tears flowed down her cheeks at the revelations she made.

"I never asked for your heart, Treia. That’s not how it works and you know that pretty well. This is my lifestyle but I guess I need to change it because apparently, it’s leading to so much jealousy and hatred. You threw her in a living hell just because you were jealous."

"I would do it again if it meant she would disappear from your life." She spewed out hatred. Xiran closed his eyes and clenched his fists, it took every nerve fibre in his body to retrain himself from slapping her right now. Deep down he understood it was as much his fault as it was hers. He couldn’t simply blame her for insecurities that dwelled because he couldn’t love her.

"Treia you have disappointed me far beyond my imagination. We have spent four years together and I always cared for you. But it didn’t give you a right to try and take someone’s life. I never wished things to end like this between us. You disgust me so much that I don’t even want to touch you."

"What else were you expecting? That I would just willingly depart after I gave not only my body but my blood my heart and my soul to you. I knew you wouldn’t spare me after finding out what I did. But I don’t care, I am ready to die at your hands as well. I have nothing left to lose." Her voice began to break as the tears she was holding spilt freely. She felt like an autumn leaf that had been shed, discarded and trampled over after being used by the tree, for a new leaf had taken its place.

"I never asked for any of that. Death will be an easy way out of your crime Treia. You will live and suffer for something you won’t even remember. I will erase every moment of my existence from your mind, leaving you with just a void, you won’t ever be able to fill."

He placed both his hands on her temples and stared into her tear-filled eyes, erasing her memories of the past four years. Snatching away everything she held precious, every small touch, glance and caress. All those moments in which she enjoined her body and soul with him. He snatched it all away, leaving her with nothingness except emptiness, and walking away like a cruel, emotionless tyrant.

He punished her for she dared fall in love with him. He was like a forbidden fruit which she wanted to taste and own, not realising he would never be hers. Although now he saw how difficult it was to restrain oneself when another doesn’t reflect your feelings. The way Aselia had told him he couldn’t get intimate with her. How hard he always had to try to restrain himself. He understood Treia’s pain for he was almost experiencing something similar.

Xiran closed the door behind him and called the Chief of Police, Warise. He told him that he had a girl here with psychological issues and was experiencing memory loss. She had attempted to murder a guest so needed to be locked up in a psychiatric ward. Warise promised to send his men to pick her up. Xiran instructed two of his subordinates to keep guard outside the conference room and hand the girl over to Police once they arrived.

He then went to Maxile’s room. She was sitting on her bed but quickly stood up as Xiran entered the room. "Hey Maxile," he called her softly she stepped forward and he took her in his arms.

"Maxile I don’t know how I have treated you so far. Maybe you hate me and think I used you. For all that I apologize, I can’t bring back the time I stole from you but I can let you go so you can lead a normal life with your family. Forgive me." He whispered.

"Oh! Master, you have been always kind to me. You never forced us into anything, you were always generous with the money, and you always gave us a choice. The world out there is scary, you protected us. I can never hate you and I understood what you wanted, sadly Treia didn’t. She is hopelessly in love with you."

"Doesn’t give her the license to hurt others. Besides, it’s my fault for just taking everything for granted and not thinking about the consequences. From now on I am going to mend my ways and to do that, I will have to let you go my sweet girl." Maxile was kind and sweet, and those qualities had always attracted Xiran. Not only he cared for her but he made sure no harm would come to her.

After erasing her memories, he told Frila to drop her off at her home. He would keep sending her money through an anonymous source so she won’t have any financial issues. He wanted her to be safe, away from him. Spending life on her terms and not bound by his contract. To be able to get married and start a family of her own. For that, he need not exist in her life anymore and he made sure of that.

With a wounded heart, it was time for him to visit Aselia and see for himself if she was going to survive the hell she had been put through.
