Chapter 32: Hornet Queen

This ability must’ve come from her title as queen. Of all the things in this world, titles were by far the most interesting.

There were many secret paths and requirements to gaining a certain title, but whenever one was discovered, it would be kept secret by the guilds, shared only with a select few members.

In a way, they were like hidden secret items that needed special conditions to unlock.

The hornet that shared similar characteristics with a dungeon rat was the first to attack.

Unlike regular hornets, this one attacked with its claws. By vibrating my wings, I flew backwards, evading the attack by only a few inches.

Without giving it a chance to react, I countered the attack immediately and sunk my stinger into its fur.

CLANG

Immediately, the obsidian stinger impacted something hard, causing my attack to bounce off.

What the hell!

Does it have armor beneath its fur?

Earlier, I killed the hornets by striking between the gaps in their armor, but this monstrosity had its fur covering its weak spot.

Just then, a chimera with the characteristics of an Electrosaur and a flame hornet attacked from above.

Its tail was long and flexible like a lizard’s, but the tip was hard and sharp like the stinger of a flame hornet.

The needle-like appendage struck at me, forcing me to scramble out of its path.

All 10 chimeras circled around me, making it impossible to retreat.

At the same time, spiraling masses of flames circled around the queen as she prepared an attack of her own.

The entire structure shook from the force as the fireballs were launched at me as if shot from a cannon.

[10 skill points have been spent to level up Flight from level 1 to Level 3]

Vibrating my wings, I created a small sonic blast as I propelled through the air, swerving between the fireballs that were locked onto me like heat-seeking missiles.

One of the chimeras launched itself toward me, but with the high maneuverability offered by these wings, I dodged its attack at the last second, timing it perfectly so the fireball impacted the creature instead. The attack caused its entire body to explode in blood and guts.

I didn’t get the EXP from the kill, but atleast it was one less enemy to worry about.

By using this strategy, I was able to take out 5 of the chimeras.

Seeing this, the queen released a piercing scream which caused the chimeras to erupt in rage as they all attacked at once.

Seeing how the other chimeras were blasted to bits before, I couldn’t allow it to happen again. It would be a waste of biomass, so instead, I circled around the beasts, weaving through their attacks, and covered them in googum and left them dangling from the ceiling.

This action seemed to infuriate the queen even further, but now that the chimeras were out of the way, I could focus my full attention on her.

Without hesitation, I flew towards the queen, which caused her to spread her massive wings and take flight towards me.

When it came to speed and aerial combat, I had the advantage, but when it came to sheer power and ability, I was beat.

Simply because this beast possessed a monster core.

With a creature this big, its biggest weakness was its massive wings, which were the only part of its body unprotected by armor.

Hence, they were my first target. At the last second, just as I was about to collide with the giant queen hornet, I switched directions and flew upwards.

At the speed that it was flying, the queen couldn’t switch directions as quickly as me, which gave me ample time to position myself above the massive creature and spray acid onto its wings.

The massive creature let out a piercing screech as it thrashed around until it collided into the walls of the dungeon, sending rubble down onto the it as it collapsed to the ground.

The dungeon went quiet, and for a moment, I wondered if the massive creature was really dead until the rubble began to move and her massive head burst forward. But before she could attack again, I pressed my feet onto the ground and activated my mold skill, which caused several large obsidian spikes to erupt from the surface, piercing deep into the monster’s shell.

Thick orange blood seeped from the wounds created in her shell.

The queen’s mandibles opened wide as it released a screech that seemed to shake the entire dungeon.

Immediately, a spiraling mass of flames began to form in front of the creature’s opened mandibles. The sheer power emanating from the prepared attack caused the surrounding walls to begin melting, and the explosion from the sudden release of energy caused some of the surrounding structures of the dungeon to crumble.

Immediately, I formed a giant wall of obsidian to protect myself. I even thickened the obsidian covering my shell, making myself bulkier.

In the aftermath, dust and rubble enveloped the entire room. Using the chaos, I closed the distance between the queen and me, but before I could even get close, she noticed my presence.

In a panic, she fired several more fireballs at me, but by maneuvering myself midair, I evaded every one of them as I crashed into the giant hornet, targeting the massive crack in the creature’s shell.

Without hesitation, I sank my forcipules into the creature’s flesh and injected my venom into its system. The queen’s weakened body soon went limp as my venom attacked her nervous system.

Her entire body went stiff within just a few seconds as she collapsed onto the ground.

[You have slain an F-ranked hornet queen]

[You have reached Level 11 and gained 11 skill points]

[+5 to all stats for killing a monster with the Hornet Queen title]

A sense of relief washed through my entire body as I read the notifications. I even received a bonus for killing a monster with a title.

This bonus usually happens when I kill my first monster of a certain species or the first monster of a species to hold a certain title.

Without a second to rest, I began spraying acid over the queen’s remains.

[You have gained 1000 biomass]

I then turned my attention to the chimeras I had left dangling from the ceiling. Devouring them, I gained a total of 250 biomass.

Still, it was neither the queen nor the chimeras that interested me. It was what she was desperately trying to protect: her eggs.

In hindsight, this was what all the hornets were trying to protect. These eggs were the future of their species, and the queen was just a means to an end.

I’m guessing the queen could combine the genes of the monsters she eats and create a new species altogether. An ability that came from her ’Hornet Quee ’ title. With this ability, the hornets would progressively get stronger after each generation.

This is what made the eggs so valuable. To them, these eggs were like gold, but to me, they were even more valuable.

There were roughly over a hundred of them. With this amount, I could finally evolve!

Without hesitation, I began smashing through the eggshells and devouring what lay inside of them.

There were 130 eggs in total, each giving me 15 biomass. After devouring them, I earned a total of 1950 biomass.

With this number, I now had a total of 8180 biomass.
