Chapter 35: Magic and Spells

Unlike the others, this girl didn’t seem to pose any threat. She didn’t look to be a player, so there wasn’t much risk in letting her go.

The others, on the other hand, had guilds who would definitely have been interested in the strange centipede monster they encountered.

This girl couldn’t have been older than 16. Maybe 15. And she was clearly a demon.

This might sound strange coming from a 20-year-old, but this girl could’ve very well been my daughter.

Soon I too would become a father, so seeing her aroused some questions in me.

The thought that something like this could happen to my family...

I couldn’t allow that to ever happen.

I wonder what happened to her parents?

The players kept her as a part of their party, so this must mean that she was useful in some way. If she wasn’t that she wouldn’t have been a slave.

Given her horns and silver hair, it didn’t take much to figure out that she was a demon. Though there is a possibility that I’m somehow wrong and she belongs to another race.

Still, being a demon meant she practiced Heretic magic. This was one of the 3 branches of magic available in this world.

After gaining a monster core, the first thing I did was research magic on the forum.

Heretic magic was the forbidden arts that could only be practiced by those of the demon race.

I wasn’t privy to a lot of information, but from what I gathered, heretic magic involved things like soul manipulation, siphoning other people’s magic or life-force, or even resurrection.

It didn’t matter what magical affinity a demon has; due to the nature of heretic magic, it would always involve manipulating the soul to get the desired outcome. So a demon that practices fire magic will be different from a human mage that also practices fire magic.

Since they are from thw heretic branch, their magic will be fundamentally different and would most likely be tied to the soul. Also, there is always a cost to using heretic magic.

This is why demons were mostly outcasts.

The other 2 branches of magic were common magic and specialized magic.

As the name suggests, common magic was the most common, and it involved things like manipulating elements, necromancy, divination, and so on. This is the magic that most people and monster uses, making the other magic be considered as rare.

As for specialized magic, this branch of magic consisted of magic specialized to a specific race or bloodline or even just rare magic that was mysteriously awakened by a few and doesn’t not fall under heretic or common magic.

Specialized magic is always mysterious in the way they work and usually have some drawbacks or requirements to perform. For example rune magic was a specialized magic.

Another example of specialized magic is blood magic, which could only be practiced by those of the vampire race.

Currently, my magic branch was common since I manipulated natural elements. Though it was possible for me to switch branches by evolving my boss monster core. Though it would cost an exorbitant amount of biomass.

If I were to switch, I was thinking about evolving to a specialized magic. If I could somehow find a rare specialized magic that complemented my class and affinities, then it could boost my strength exponentially.

With such a magic, the very nature of my spells would be changed and altered for the better!

But right now, after purchasing the obsidian dragon bloodline and creating my first monster, I had a total of 0 biomass left.

I went wild and added a bunch of evolutions to the monster I created. Even things I didn’t add to myself. With this I could test different evolution paths on the monsters I created before following that path myself. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

This way I’ll be able to pick the best path

The demon flinched and closed her eyes as I approached her, her body trembling violently in the corner.

CRACK!

CRACK!

CRACK!

Her eyes snapped open in surprise when she heard the cracking sound that followed.

Using my forcipules, I broke her shackles and left her be since she didn’t seem to be a fan of insects.

She wasn’t a threat and instead seemed more like the victim in all this. As I turned around, I could hear the sound of her footsteps as she left.

I returned my attention to the dead adventurers lying in the room, which would soon be a vital source of biomass for me.

Immediately, I reached into my storage space and pulled out a flame-colored spherical ball. It was a monster core I received from a flame hornet.

The core glowed brightly as I pressed it against my feet. Soon the energy from the core began flowing into my body as it got smaller and smaller until the core was reduced to dust.

[Obsidian Dragon bloodline Purity: 0.01% -> 0.02%]

Absorbing the core only increased the bloodline purity by 0.01%.

Increasing the bloodline purity was the only way for me to unlock spells, increase the level of spells, evolve spells, gain special traits, and treasures that come from the obsidian dragon bloodline.

The only way to increase the purity was by absorbing monster cores, mana stones, or anything that has a high concentration of mana.

The monster core I absorbed belonged to an F-ranked monster, which was why the increase was so small.

So for me, monster cores weren’t only a means of gaining money but also of increasing my power.

Right now, I only had 3 spells: an affinity-based spell, [Lv. 1 Earth Control], and 2 class-based spells, [Lv. 1 Magma Creation] and [Lv. 1 Magma Absorption].

After sorting the bodies into a large pile, I activated [Magma Creation] and turned the rocky surface of the ground into a small pool of magma.

The magma absorbed the organic matter until nothing remained, after which I reabsorbed the magma [Magma Absorption] spell and gained the biomass from the adventurers.

[You have gained 400 biomass!]

A hundred biomass each huh? Before I tossed them into the magma I stripped them for all they worth and even managed to gain a ring that would transport me to a safe space whenever I logged out of Vesperia.

I then did same thing to the gargoyle after extracting its core. The core of an F Boss Monster was twice as big as a regular monster’s.

It felt as if the mana released from it was slowly pushing me away. The core looked like a spherical diamond.

After gazing at the core, I quickly placed it into my storage space, and at that exact moment, a mechanical voice rang out inside my head.
