Endless Extraction in a Game-Like World
Chapter 98: The Ender of Death’s relation! A familiar power: Fighting Spirit
"You are back." A shadow crept towards Caelus in a flash as someone forcefully entered his embrace.
"Woah." Caelus was stunned by the sudden impact.
"Why did you suddenly hug me?" Caelus asked, temporarily speechless.
"Because I was concerned." Sylvia looked up, her cheeks puffed out in anger. "I came back two hours ago, yet you were still not here. I had my doubts; something bad had happened. We clearly initiated the quest at the exact same time, even with the confirmation from the system."
"It is a very long story," Caelus sighed heavily.
"I like long stories~" Sylvia let out a cheerful, albeit slightly forced, smile.
Caelus sighed again. Was it right to tell Sylvia the truth about his origins as an Ender?
He did not know. He felt like he was extremely close to Sylvia, but at the exact same time, he felt a strange distance.
But she is going to be my party member for a long time. I feel like this is something she absolutely should know, especially considering her SS-Rank talent.
In the end, Caelus decided to come clean.
"It is going to be a long talk."
"You can tell me anything," Sylvia said readily. "Even if I die, I will never allow a single secret of yours to get out."
"But you cannot die," Caelus pointed out, his lips twitching slightly.
Sylvia smiled cheerfully at that fact.
"Alright. Let’s start from the very beginning." Caelus sighed and began relaying the Forgotten Tale of the Enders.
Sylvia listened attentively as Caelus continued speaking, absorbing every word.
"They are apparently ancient beings that are only below the Supreme Existence that formed them, but they are powerful enough to directly take over the Axiom Origin."
"This tale..." Sylvia’s expression slowly turned entirely solemn. "I have heard of it."
"You have?" Caelus was genuinely stunned.
"Yes." Sylvia nodded softly. "I have heard of this exact tale from my Ancestor. You might not know this, but he is not originally from the Azure Origin Planet."
"He isn’t?" Caelus was even more shocked by this revelation.
"Yes. It is a long story, but the Azure Origin Planet never had any other races other than humans at one point in time. We are only residing here now because the Origin Network allows us to."
"But my Ancestor had told us that the True Vampire Progenitor, who is essentially a god, was once created by the Ender of Death. Enders are prominent, absolute beings. They can never be surpassed through normal means. Only an Ender can truly defeat an Ender, or else the Axiom Origin itself has to step in."
"My Ancestor told me that we are currently at a long stasis with no new Enders being birthed. But he foresaw an Ender being born soon. The war between them had been going on for millennia. If there is one born, then it is a definitive sign that a new Ender of Death will also be born, and we vampires will have to unite under their forces. But to them, we are nothing but disposable chess pieces. We will never be able to match the Enders under normal circumstances."
"Wait, what?" Caelus was entirely speechless. "Wait, so you already knew about the Enders?"
"Yeah." Sylvia nodded, looking slightly confused. "But what relation does that have with you, Caelus? Is your race, the Chaos Perception Dragon, related to it somehow?"
"..." Caelus fell into a heavy silence upon hearing this.
"Do you really have to unite under the Ender of Death?" Caelus asked with a deep frown.
"That is how the prophecy goes. Even as the True Progenitor, I am not exempt from it," Sylvia said with a heavy sigh. "Of course, my family does not know that I am the current True Vampire Progenitor."
Caelus hesitated hearing this. Did that not technically mean Sylvia was an enemy waiting to happen?
She was prophesied to work for the Ender of Death!
Now he was really having second thoughts about revealing his true class.
"Let’s say," Caelus finally spoke up, "hypothetically speaking, one of the people very close to you turned out to be another Ender that isn’t the Ender of Death. What will you do?"
"Then that just means I will definitely not side with the Ender of Death. I am not like the other vampires, nor do I blindly follow their methods. I hate every single vampire in that estate. I will never follow the Ender of Death."
Sylvia said this with a chillingly emotionless look appearing on her beautiful face.
"My Ancestor was the only thing protecting me in that vile household. Once he went to another world, they..." Sylvia clicked her tongue, refusing to finish the sentence.
"So you hate the vampires and also will not follow the Ender of Death."
"I won’t." Sylvia gave a serious nod, then a deep frown formed on her face. "Why are you randomly asking me that, Caelus? Are you also something like me? A god created by an Ender?"
"Well..." Caelus sighed and physically manifested a system window containing his Class details, pushing it toward Sylvia.
"Hm? Dual class?" Sylvia only scanned it casually at first, but once her crimson eyes settled on the Class "Ender of Origin," she froze completely stiff.
Sylvia’s mind violently buzzed in shock as reality viciously kicked in.
"Y-You are an Ender?" Sylvia wore a genuinely stunned look on her face; her usual playfulness was completely gone.
"Unfortunately." Caelus sighed again. "The exact reason our Ascension Quests got violently split was also due to it."
"I was sent directly into the past," Caelus said helplessly.
"The past where the Ender of Origin looked at the burning skies of a ruined world with absolute indifference," Caelus added softly.
"Forget about all that." Sylvia suddenly jumped up from the sofa. "You are an Ender!"
"The birth of an Ender... if my Ancestor is entirely correct, as long as one Ender is officially born, there will be a massive chain reaction, and it will automatically give birth to other Enders as well."
Sylvia’s mind buzzed with the implications.
That meant the Ender of Death had most likely also been born!
"Caelus. I will always be on your side." Sylvia’s expression suddenly turned dead cold. "Even if I have to personally kill the Ender of Death, I will do it without a single second of hesitation."
"I will never betray you," Sylvia conveyed with burning intensity. "I already told you my answer before, and that is still my final answer to you."
"I know." Caelus smiled softly. "After going through that Ascension Quest, I had a premonition. Soon, the Azure Origin Planet will be fully lit with the devastating flames of war. I foresee an Ender descending very soon."
"We absolutely need to see my Ancestor," Sylvia suddenly spoke up. "He might be able to help us."
"It is impossible with just two people," Sylvia said, a highly calculative look forming on her face.
By now, she had already firmly decided. She would not let a single soul harm Caelus. She would give him the absolute protection he needed as a newly born Ender.
Every Ender historically had their personal god to protect them, and she would become his.
And the very first step was contacting her Ancestor.
Just then, her phone vibrated.
It was an urgent message from her brother.
[Good news. Our father just recovered a transmission from our Ancestor. He said he is returning back to the Azure Origin Planet soon. He said there is something extremely urgent.]
[He finally found what he went there for.]
"Caelus...!" Sylvia slowly turned towards him and showed him the glowing screen.
"Uh-huh." Caelus looked at the message with a heavy sigh.
He needed to get stronger, fast. The Bronze rank was nowhere near enough, he was afraid.
Just then, he also received a system ping. It was a message from Mia.
---
"Then, I am heading out." Caelus turned to Sylvia, who was currently looking at him with a pleasant yet slightly twitching smile.
"Do not keep me waiting, Caelus. One hour. If you are not back here in exactly one hour..." Sylvia smiled beautifully as she tilted her head to the side. "And you know I have a very strong sense of smell... If I smell anything suspicious on you... then..." Her smile turned utterly deadly.
"I will be back in an hour," Caelus said speechlessly as he hastily left the apartment.
Sylvia looked at his departing figure with a deadpan look on her face. Then, just as quickly, she took out a discreet black mask, a long hat, and an oversized trench coat.
She quickly wore them, completely masking her usual striking appearance, and left the mansion, whistling innocently.
There was absolutely no way in hell she was going to just let Caelus go see another woman alone!
Her entire existence felt fundamentally threatened.
She followed him silently, completely unaware that the others on the street were giving her very strange stares due to the highly suspicious way she moved. But she couldn’t care less.
Soon, Caelus met up with Mia in a public square.
"Hello, I am here." Caelus greeted her with a polite, neutral smile.
"Hello, Caelus Kross." Mia bowed back at him politely. Everyone nearby was giving Mia a look of awe; she was naturally very beautiful, almost as breathtaking as Sylvia herself.
"Then, let us get going. I know a quiet spot." Mia said with an innocent blink. "I cannot say the thing I wanted to tell you in public."
"Alright. Lead the way then," Caelus said with a short nod.
Mia nodded and soon made Caelus follow her. Seeing this, Sylvia also began moving again.
She began closely tailing them, completely disregarding the passing pedestrians she forcefully bumped into. She followed them while audibly grinding her teeth in jealousy.
"I never even got to go on a proper date with Caelus," Sylvia clicked her tongue with a highly sour thought.
Bang!
Just then, she roughly collided with a passerby.
"Hey, watch where you are going, freak!" the passerby snapped, clearly annoyed.
However, the instant he saw Sylvia’s terrifying, murderous vampiric glare from beneath her hat, he immediately shut his mouth, trembling violently, and power-walked away without another word.
Sylvia immediately snapped her head back forward, only to realize that Caelus and Mia had vanished into the bustling crowd.
"Tsk." She clicked her tongue in genuine annoyance as she sprinted forward.
Eventually, she reached the mouth of a dark, narrow alleyway with not many people around.
Just as quickly, she froze in her tracks, her eyes widening.
"What is the actual meaning of this, Miss Mia?" Caelus asked, a very calm smile forming on his face as his Chaos Axiom energy silently surged around him.
Mia had intentionally led him into a dead-end alley with absolutely no one around. And right now, a highly familiar, violent power was bubbling within her... something he was keenly familiar with.
Fighting Spirit.
Boom!
The very next moment, a blinding holy radiance violently erupted from Mia’s body.
