Enlightenment: Beginning as a Disposable Warrior
Chapter 393 - 231: Rare Demon Beast, Land of Clouds and Mist! (Part 2)
Tap, tap!
The sound of footsteps echoed again, as a figure emerged from the dead end behind him. Only then did the head of the Demon Wolf detach from its body, tumbling heavily to the ground with a dull ’thud’.
"Gulp... The Demon Wolf is dead, just like that?!"
"Thank you, benefactor, for your rescue!"
The Medicinal Herb-Gathering Girl stood there stunned, unable to comprehend that the Demon Wolf had died so quickly. Only after did she feel the joy of surviving a perilous situation, and she quickly came back to her senses and shouted a thanks, while knocking her head on the ground several times. Her limbs were weak, leaving her prostrated on the ground.
"Stand up."
In the dim light, the girl couldn’t see the person’s face clearly, only feeling that he was very tall, even taller than the Demon Wolf when it was alive. The benefactor gently extended his palm, and a breeze surged, lifting an herb from the basket to fall into his hand.
"Where did you find this herb?"
Su Mu squinted slightly at the herb that appeared like a goose tail, seemingly unspectacular but entirely a pale golden color, emitting a faint yet solid sharpness, reminiscent of the golden spots on the eight-foot Red Wood he had collected earlier.
He guessed that the Demon Wolf might have been drawn to this herb.
"Benefactor, I found this Goosegrass by a mountain stream. If you need, I can take you there."
"No need, just tell me the approximate location of the stream."
"Benefactor, the stream is located... I marked the trees along the way with circular signs..."
The girl involuntarily breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing this and promptly explained the location of the stream in detail, including the signs she had left. Su Mu listened and nodded lightly.
"The mountains are dangerous; let me escort you down."
"You’ve already saved me, benefactor, which is a great kindness. I’m familiar with these mountains and won’t trouble you further..."
Before she could finish, the girl suddenly screamed as she felt the tall figure lift her in one hand. Then a whirlwind arose, and everything before her swept backward rapidly. Yet, the thorny brambles that acted like iron whips couldn’t harm them, shattered into dust by an Invisible Power.
It was unclear how much time had passed when a gleam of light pierced the darkness. The light suddenly increased, and the girl’s once-calm mood stirred violently once more.
Under the moonlight, her pupils contracted sharply, realizing that the benefactor had just flown from a cliff with her. Her eyes quickly shut again, and she uttered several exclamations.
"Alright, follow this path back. This bottle of Blood Replenishing Pill is yours, and the herb is mine."
The girl only dared to open her eyes once stepping on solid ground. She was about to express gratitude, but the benefactor had already vanished, leaving her regretful for not having seen his face. Grateful, she knelt and bowed toward the cliff before departing.
"Eighth-Grade Demon Wolf, I can’t let it go to waste."
Soon afterward, Su Mu returned to the Demon Wolf’s corpse. A Spiritual Light flashed in his hand, producing an empty jade jar. He first collected a jar of fresh blood from the wolf’s heart, then used a Long Saber to cut several pieces of meat from its forelimbs.
Su Mu had long been curious about the taste of Demon Beast meat, a chance he hadn’t had until now, fulfilling his wish.
He then took a section of wolf bone, a wolf tendon, and Sharp Claws. With everything collected, he strode in the direction the Demon Wolf had come from, and upon exiting the dense forest, noticed a mark on a shrub, appearing fresh, left no more than two days ago.
Following the marks, he eventually heard the sound of flowing water. After several miles, his view opened, revealing a mountain stream. The spring water cascaded down, forming a pristine creek, with the crescent moon reflecting upon it, shimmering.
Upon crossing the stream, Su Mu soon found the herb-gathering site mentioned by the girl. The area was dense with Goosegrass, dotted with some pale golden Goosegrass, though the sharpness they held was weak.
Su Mu sniffed the air and carefully inspected the surroundings, frowning slightly. He had suspected, upon seeing the girl’s basket containing the golden goose-tailed herb, it might be similar to the eight-foot Red Wood, formed by powerful Demon Beast Blood nurturing it over years.
But now it seemed he might have guessed wrong.
Su Mu collected the pale golden Goosegrass and returned to the stream, light-footedly leaping up to observe the terrain.
"Hmm?"
While observing the terrain, Su Mu felt a sense of familiarity. This place wasn’t far from where Wang Xuantian had marked on the map.
"Coincidence?"
Su Mu mused to himself and proceeded towards the marked locale.
After half an hour, a shadowy cave appeared before him, with signs at the entrance of being forcefully blasted open. In this place, Su Mu detected the familiar scent, the scent of Goosegrass.
"Let’s take a look inside."
Passing through the shattered entrance, the cavern inside stood silent. With a thought, Su Mu’s Fire Sparrow Gang Force surged, flames rising from his palm. As he ventured deeper, he discovered traces of a clawed Demon Beast within, though it seemed the beast hadn’t returned for months.
Reaching the cave’s deepest part, moonlight spilled through a ceiling hole, illuminating a pile of beast bones and another cluster of Goosegrass.
Su Mu’s eyes twinkled upon seeing this cluster, entirely golden, each emitting a more solid sharpness. He verified the location on his map; it was indeed the marked cave.
"Could this cave’s inhabitant be a rare beast? If Wang Xuantian attempted to seize it, even his power wasn’t enough."
Su Mu felt puzzled yet intrigued. The creature that had resided here appeared small, its footprints suggesting a size akin to a common hunting dog, which might indeed be extraordinary for Wang Xuantian to covet.
"The cave’s owner likely won’t return soon; it’s better to check another area first."
Su Mu left the empty cave, planning to investigate another area marked with Cinnabar. After collecting the Goosegrass from the cave’s depths, he departed.
As the first rays of dawn pierced the dense forest into the mountains, Su Mu arrived at a mist-covered region. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
A Hundred-Refinements Elite Level Long Saber flashed into Su Mu’s hand, which he tossed ahead casually.
Swoosh!
The Long Saber sliced through the mist, yet upon nearing the mist, an ordinary-looking mist surged, instantly slicing the Long Saber into countless fragments, reducing it to scattered metal powder.
Witnessing this, Su Mu’s eyes lit up, filled with intense heat and surprise.
At this moment, his gaze seemed to penetrate the mist, insight into its core. To confirm his thoughts, a Spiritual Light appeared again in his hand.
Red light shimmered, and the eight-foot Red Wood manifested out of nowhere.
This time the situation reversed. The Red Wood’s trunk faced danger, emitting low sparrow-like chirps, and its golden spots sparked and became restless.
"Ah, so that’s how it is!"
