Chapter 316: The Baptism – A Turn of Fate
"What? Aiden has no problem? This... this can’t be!" Alexius staggered back a step, his body shaking.
His eyes locked onto Aiden in the sky, filled with confusion and disbelief. He simply couldn’t grasp what was happening.
"There must be something wrong!" Alexius shook his head repeatedly, insisting.
As a student of The Flame God Ignis, even though he had been equipped with a Legendary Rank soul stone from the moment he awakened, he still couldn’t understand two Forces of Laws at Level 50 like Aiden.
"Even Selene, who has higher potential than me, couldn’t do this! So Aiden must have some issue!"
Alexius even suspected that Bella was deliberately taking Aiden’s side.
Slowly, he raised his head and looked toward his teacher, The Flame God Ignis.
At that moment, The Flame God Ignis frowned, a flicker of doubt crossing his eyes. He turned to Bella and asked:
"Is there really no problem?"
Bella nodded and replied, "I’ve already seen the evidence Aiden provided. There absolutely is no problem."
Then, Bella’s lips moved slightly.
Although she made no sound, The Flame God Ignis seemed to hear something unbelievable. His eyes widened instantly, and in the next moment, he teleported right beside Aiden.
"I never thought you could actually obtain that thing," The Flame God Ignis said, looking at Aiden with surprise.
He quickly turned to Alexius and added, "Alright, Aiden truly has no issue. Now, honor your bet—you need to produce the fragment of the mysterious treasure map."
Alexius was completely stunned. He hadn’t expected his own teacher to be so certain that Aiden was fine.
Could someone really grasp two Forces of Laws at Level 50 without absorbing the souls of innocent children?
Is this something a normal human could achieve?
Alexius clenched his teeth and took a deep breath.
By now, even his teacher had spoken, so he had no choice but to hand over the fragment of the mysterious treasure map.
"You can have it," Alexius said, still unwilling to give up, "but can you tell me exactly what evidence you presented?"
Even if he was wrong, he needed to know how Aiden proved he hadn’t harmed innocent children.
Even at this moment, a tiny sliver of hope still lingered in his heart—perhaps Aiden had forged the evidence to deceive his teacher and Bella.
For years, Alexius had believed that aside from Selene, he was the most talented and promising one on Earth.
But now, with Aiden appearing as nothing short of a monster, Alexius couldn’t accept this reality so quickly.
Aiden glanced at him indifferently, a faint curve forming on his lips before he calmly replied:
"I’m not saying."
Alexius looked again to his teacher, but The Flame God Ignis could only offer a soft sigh and a slight shake of his head.
At that moment, the genius contestants watching from the sides were filled with intense curiosity. They, too, wanted to know what evidence Aiden had produced.
"Oh well, Alexius is just overreacting. If he had gotten to know Aiden better, he wouldn’t have been so shocked."
"That’s not quite right," someone else added. "The bigger Alexius’s reaction, the more Aiden’s performance exceeds expectations. It’s not that Alexius is being dramatic—it’s that Aiden... is just too strong."
"That makes sense," another chimed in. "Think about it. Since we met Aiden, we’ve seen so many things he did—any single act is beyond what others could do, let alone what they would even dare to dream of."
Hearing the murmurs around him, Alexius’s chest heaved as he struggled to control his anger.
He cast one final, deep look at Aiden, then slowly reached into his bag and pulled out the fragment of the mysterious treasure map, saying:
"A week from now, I’ll give you the next fragment of the mysterious treasure map," Alexius said.
"Rest assured, I never go back on my word. That said, you still haven’t completely won me over."
While speaking, Alexius extended his hand and handed the treasure map fragment to Aiden.
Aiden didn’t hesitate for a second and took it directly.
With this piece, he now had four fragments. He was just one away from collecting them all.
"Looks like I’ll need to tweak my plan a bit," Aiden thought.
Plans often change faster than they can be made.
Once he left the Golden Great Wall, he would head toward the Red Dwarves’ territory while finishing his Class Change mission and hunting down Mythic Rank the Abyss creatures.
If everything went smoothly, he could complete all of this within a week.
"I wonder how much stronger I’ll be by then. It’s going to be exciting," Aiden mused to himself, casually storing the treasure map fragment in his storage space.
Across from him, Alexius watched his every move in silence.
"Whether you’re convinced or not doesn’t matter much to me," Aiden said casually.
He didn’t really care about strangers’ opinions. Otherwise, he’d never have enough time to waste.
Turning around, Aiden walked straight toward Victor and the others.
Guided by Robert and Graham, Aiden and the other talented contestants began heading toward the city gate of the Golden Great Wall.
Once they stepped inside, an empty street stretched out before them.
The street was less than 100 meters long, but several alleyways branched off on both sides.
On either end of the street, various shops lined the way. Occasionally, a few pedestrians hurried past, all looking busy and rushed.
Overall, the interior space of the Golden Great Wall wasn’t very large; in fact, it could even be described as crowded.
"This is the interior of the Golden Great Wall. You can move around freely, but keep in mind that some areas guarded by sentries are off-limits."
Robert gave a brief explanation, led the contestants to a house, and then hurried away.
A Reclasser clad in black armor stepped out of the house. With a calm gaze, he looked over the group and said simply, "This is your temporary housing. Two people to a room. Free food will be served at 7 AM, 12 PM, and 8 PM."
"At 7:30 AM tomorrow, everyone must gather at the entrance to begin the baptism of the Golden Great Wall."
The baptism of the Golden Great Wall?
Aiden frowned slightly, instantly recalling the strange tremors he’d felt earlier at the Golden Great Wall.
One of the contestants couldn’t help but ask in curiosity.
Unexpectedly, the Reclasser just shrugged and said coldly, "There’s no point in explaining too much right now."
"Simply put, Reclassers with your current power level are too weak. You won’t gain anyone’s respect until you’ve passed the baptism of the Golden Great Wall."
"So, get some rest tonight. If you can’t pass the baptism tomorrow, you’ll have to leave here."
Without a second thought, the Reclasser turned and walked away.
The remaining contestants exchanged uneasy glances, their faces filled with confusion and anxiety.
Aiden, however, didn’t overthink it. He walked straight into the house, picked a room at random, and decided to rest first before going out for a walk later.
"Captain, that Reclasser said two people to a room! Wait for me!" Victor didn’t hesitate and hurried after him.
Aiden glanced back at him with a calm expression.
Victor immediately stopped, a slightly awkward smile appearing on his face.
"I checked, and there are plenty of rooms here. The number is enough, and that Reclasser didn’t seem interested in our little details. He probably won’t care about such a small thing," Aiden said casually.
He wasn’t really used to sharing a room with others.
Of course, there were exceptions.
As Victor watched with a disappointed expression, Aiden closed the door and began inspecting the room carefully.
"Not much to worry about, but seriously, isn’t this room way too small?" Aiden grumbled.
The bathroom in his old villa was actually bigger than this entire room.
...
High atop the Golden Great Wall, floating hundreds of meters in the air, Bella gazed at the distant horizon.
Kenneth stood beside her and sighed deeply. "Things are getting more complicated. Now we have to face not only the Abyss Demon but also the even more powerful Swarm."
"That old fool, The Flame God Ignis, still insists on trying to move all of humanity to the Godfall Landsecret realm. Ugh..."
Kenneth slowly took off his gold-rimmed glasses, his eyes full of helplessness.
Bella remained silent.
The wind blowing from afar gently fluttered her hair.
After a long silence, she finally spoke, her voice filled with absolute certainty: "Everything will be okay. A turnaround will come."
Kenneth opened his mouth as if to say something, but he closed it again. Instead, he followed Bella’s gaze toward the distance.
Bella took a deep breath in the sky, then exhaled heavily.
If she successfully broke through and became a Supreme God, all these problems would be resolved.
"Bella! If you keep insisting on staying on Earth and humanity fails, becoming slaves of the Abyss race or facing extinction, what will you do?"
The words The Flame God Ignis had once spoken echoed in Bella’s mind again.
She couldn’t even bear to imagine such an outcome.
"You go ahead; I’ll stay here for a while," Bella said softly.
Kenneth turned slowly. "I’m sorry, but an Intermediate God is as far as I can go."
Once Kenneth left, Bella slowly descended onto the Golden Great Wall.
She gently patted the stone wall and whispered, "Alright, I know you were pretending to be asleep. What is on Aiden’s body that actually forced you to wake up?"
