Chapter 55: [Chapter 55 ● Linear Frost Severance!]

Leaving the molten battlefield, Aezaleon and the rest soon began their hunt for the day. The encounters were sparse—only four calamities in total—and all of them were handled personally by Aezaleon.

He sought to gain more proficiency in his three inferior concepts of—[Lesser Frost], [Movement Impairment], and [Darkwind].

Furthermore, he wanted to focus a bit more on the ability he had developed yesterday on the foundation of his [Lesser Frost] during his clash against the super strong Galescourge Bearer—the beast who had now transformed into such a lovely woman.

Given Aezaleon’s admitted lack of a creative naming sense, the ability’s name was quite functional and normal.

He simply dubbed it—<Linear Frost Severance>. It was a rank 3 offensive type ability; a potent strike that demanded energy proportional to the amount of devastation he intended to unleash.

Simply put, the more destructive and lethal he wanted it to be, the more energy input the technique demanded.

He hoped these limitations would eventually be reduced and ultimately removed as he evolved the power to higher tiers. His progress was like a young river carving its path through stone, slow but inevitable.

Nevertheless, currently, Aezaleon was laboring over a lesser variation of his rank 3 ability. He was developing a sub effect with reduced energy consumption and damage focused specifically on a single target, rather than the wide-area devastation that Linear Frost Severance caused.

To that end, he needed to elevate his [Lesser Frost] proficiency, which sat at 70 percent of the Initiate Level at the moment.

To achieve this, Aezaleon had to utilize the concept many more times to deepen his understanding; however, if he found himself short on time, simply absorbing other frost-type calamities would suffice as a shortcut.

By the grace of lady luck, the first calamity he encountered was indeed a frost type. It was a Material Ascension rank 3 and Spiritual Ascension rank 1 Calamity: Cryovex Glaciotard Exomorph.

This was a pureblood, natural core monstrosity.

While formidable, it was still a bit weaker than Aphryne had been back when she was a Galescourge Bearer. It originated from the beast family of Tardigrades!

The creature was massive—a multi-ton behemoth with a thick, semi-transparent body resembling frozen gel.

It possessed a strange skin, or perhaps it was merely the surface, but whatever the material was, it constantly formed and reformed crystalline ice plates. It stood as a living glacier, cold and unyielding against the passage of time.

Inside its frame, glowing blue cores pulsed slowly with a rhythmic light. Its limbs were short but extremely dense, so heavy that each step froze the ground instantly upon contact. Frost vapor continuously leaked from its body like a ghostly shroud.

This Calamity was quite strong too, with its prowess reaching Class 2: Collapse Grade—Apex Collapse! This granted the beast a destructive effective range of 150 meters and an affected range of 700 meters!

Henceforth, the encounter resulted in a good challenge for Aezaleon.

The Calamity had also comprehended nine inferior and four superior concepts. Mainly, they were the inferior concepts of—[Freeze Contact], [Cryo Pulse], [Frost Spread], [Ice Shell Reinforcement], [Frost Rebound], [Ice Bloom], [Permafrost Anchor], [Cryo Sink], and [Gelid Pulse].

Its superior arsenal consisted of—[Glacio Zone], [Cold Absorption], [Total Cryostasis], and [Frost Confinement].

The battle wasn’t long, only taking Aezaleon 10 minutes to finish it, but these were quite the intense 10 minutes nonetheless.

Moreover, after absorbing this Calamity, Aezaleon also obtained his very first superior concept. In actuality, it was the evolution of his inferior concept—[Movement Impairment]—and also a mutation of the stolen superior concept of—[Total Cryostasis]—into his own superior concept—[Cyrolock].

All three were frost element’s suppression type concepts, but his was distinctly stronger.

Aside from halting movement and suppressing energy flow locally, it was also capable of instantly freezing his targets, slowing their movements to a near-zero state and preventing escape or immediate reactions. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

Its core idea was not just freezing the physical body, but also locking motion itself.

The technique was like a spider’s web made of absolute zero, trapping the very concept of momentum.

However, its limitation came from the number of targets it could influence. As it was a focused ability and not an AoE type of ability like [Total Cryostasis]—which was a concept obviously weak against single targets but very powerful against multi-targets.

This balance of power was the reason why both were classified as superior.

Aside from this, absorbing the Pureblood Calamity: Cryovex Glaciotard Exomorph also reinforced his body a bit further, making his physical form stronger and more resilient.

Afterwards, the next calamity he fought was also a pureblood natural core one.

Calamity: Pyrovex Infercass Talonstryx!

It hailed from the family of Cassowaries. This was a flame elemental bird-type Calamity with a max prowess of Class 2: Apex Collapse, similar to the previous foe.

It was a tall, aggressive bird, one that was incapable of flying, with dense black feathers smoldering and burning at the edges.

Its crest glowed like molten metal in the forge. Its legs were extremely powerful, equipped with claws that emitted visible heat distortions in the air. Each of its movements left faint flame streaks behind, carving paths of fire through the atmosphere.

Its inferior concepts were—[Flame Dash], [Ember Burst], [Thermal Surge], [Burning Momentum], [Cinder Core Amplification], [Blaze Tendon Acceleration], [Emberhide Fortification], [Thermofiber Surge], [Heat Kick], and [Pyroframe Reinforcement].

Its superior concepts were—[Heat Overdrive], [Infernal Impact], [Pyroclast Frame], and [Blazing-Stride].

It was a strong calamity with an even stronger vitality, largely because most of its concepts were focused on physical and elemental reinforcement.

In this clash, Aezaleon’s newly learned superior concept, [Cyrolock], came in great use, suppressing this avian calamity greatly.

Furthermore, after learning that he was truly capable of utilizing his girls’ abilities, Aezaleon did not hesitate. He used fire against fire. He unleashed Auguszta’s Burningblight against this poor Pyrovex Infercass Talonstryx!

The battle was quite intense, making him learn many things during the exchange.

The most important realization was the true nature of Auguszta’s own element—Burningblight.

In simple words—after the minor evolution it had gone through, most of its major weaknesses had been removed—now it had become truly ominous. The fire was a living plague, hungry and relentless in its pursuit of consumption.

It was a catastrophic element of hyper-combustion, decay, and life-corrupting heat—a simple description, but one that was just—Wicked! The flames did not just burn the outside of the target.

No—like parasites, they entered the target and started burning it from within.

They spread like a disease-fire—a corruptive one. At the same time, they fed on the energy, heat, and life of the one burning, making themselves stronger with every second.

Simply put, the stronger the opponent and the more vitality and life-force it had, the more fuel there was for consumption.

The greater the life-force, the greater the amplification. The stronger the flames became, the more menacing the Burningblight grew!

Weak targets faced instantaneous destruction. Strong targets endured slow, painful devastation from the inside out.

That was the fate of the unfortunate Calamity: Pyrovex Infercass Talonstryx! It was consumed from within. Its own regeneration even became another factor in its destruction, fueling the flames further.
