Extra's Supremacy: Rise of the Forgotten Background Character
Chapter 252: Path of Ascension.
"What do you know about the Seed of Divinity?" Rael asked the question he was most curious about. "And what are the ways to ascend to divinity?"
Naga looked at Rael, his eyes steady as he began answering.
"I myself am limited in my knowledge. From what my master told me, the Seed of Divinity is something a person is born with in most cases, but some rare individuals can awaken it during their lifetime as well."
He continued.
"It is independent of the world or any external influence and accumulates slowly within the soul of its wielder. Some say it blooms into a divine realm once someone ascends, while others say it transforms into one's divine soul. The exact truth is something even I do not know."
A divine realm…?
Hmm, that makes sense.
Rael nodded.
He had always been curious about how Gods obtained their own divine realms. So if the Seed truly became the divine realm, that would make things simpler but Rael knew it couldn't be that straightforward, especially since Naga himself wasn't certain.
As for the Divine Soul, Rael himself wasn't entirely sure what that even was, so he didn't dwell on it.
"What about Ascension? What do you know about it?" he asked immediately.
Naga straightened his back.
"As you might have deduced from my story earlier, one way to ascend is through faith. It is one of the easiest ways to ascend, and many Gods of this age have done so."
"The Gods who ascend this way either create their own faith or borrow the power of faith from long-forgotten legends."
"But… going down that path is considered unstable for reasons I do not know."
"What about those with the Seed of Divinity? Do they ascend directly or is there a specific path they must take?"
Rael asked without hesitation.
He had no intention of wasting his time with faith. He wasn't about to preach a religion or rely on some legend to ascend to Godhood as that would just be borrowed power and he knew better than anyone… borrowed power never ended well.
Naga's smile widened.
"That is something even I cannot tell you. The path to ascension differs among holders of the Seed of Divinity. Some must slay something far beyond their strength, while others must detach themselves from their emotions completely. It is similar to how an awakening trial is held for Nexus awakening."
"So, only the one who walks the path would know how to reach its end when the time is right."
"I see." Rael nodded, stroking his chin.
So the conditions are different for everyone.
He didn't bother thinking much about it, as that was something completely useless to him for now. The path would only be revealed when the time was right or at least, that's what he understood from Naga's words.
"What was the rank of the First Successor when he vanished?"
Rael asked curiously.
"My master was at the peak of mortal ranks or as people call it in today's time, SS-Rank. Even I wasn't at the Demi-god rank back then. I was merely a snake at B-Rank and only grew stronger while waiting for him."
Naga answered him immediately.
"What exactly are you…? And what about your siblings? Where are they now?" Rael didn't even pause before asking the next question.
Naga didn't seem to mind if anything, he acted as if he had expected those questions.
"I am what you see, a serpent who surpassed racial limits. I was once a mere beast, tamed by my master as I gained sentience." He continued. "As for my siblings, they are also beasts similar to me, saved by our master from their fates."
"But even I do not know, as the last time I saw them was thousands of years ago, when I still had a physical body. Still, I am certain that if any of them are alive today, they might have already reached Godhood."
So, they are like Bearlo…
Rael nodded, leaning slightly forward, his smile widening for the first time since the conversation began.
"So, what were you planning to do with me and Lyra?"
Naga didn't flinch. Instead, he bowed his head.
"I was trying to take over your body, Master and before that, I had been trying to take over Lyra's body."
Rael's gaze sharpened.
"Then why didn't you take control of her body…? Or the body of anyone else, for that matter…?"
Naga didn't bother lying.
"I tried everything I could, Master, but Lyra's skills made me unable to even pass through the first layer of her consciousness. Your sister, if she continues to grow, has the potential to surpass Romen through sheer talent and if that's not all, she has a dormant Seed of Divinity within her, though it has not fully awakened yet."
He continued.
"As for taking over the bodies of others, I, as a spiritual being without a physical form, have to follow certain rules, especially given the power I once possessed at my peak."
"I could never interact with beings who couldn't perceive me and that bastard Romen made sure no one would be able to perceive me when he sealed me."
"You and Lyra were the only exceptions, probably due to your unique Nexus and since I couldn't take over her body, I tried to take over yours but clearly, that was a mistake."
He paused briefly.
"But at least that mistake made this meeting with you possible."
Damn, so this guy was actually trying to take over Lyra's body too.
I wonder what would have happened if he had tried this shit before I awakened my true Nexus…?
Rael thought for a moment before looking back at Naga, his smile still on his face.
Ra, who had been seated calmly throughout the entire conversation, looked at Rael as well, understanding what he was about to ask.
"So, what do you know about Trickster…? And has the first successor ever told you anything about him…? Or if he had ever met that guy before…?"
