Farming with Entries: From Lord to Emperor
Chapter 698 - 328: Besieged on All Sides (Part 3)
All rear occupation and governance tasks are handed over to Durant’s troops to handle.
This rapid advancement didn’t allow the Moon Wolf family much time to react; most villagers naturally didn’t have time to take away the grain and livestock from their homes.
"Order Gang Le, the Vanguard Corps to adjust the route, bypass Moon Wolf City, target the nearest Wolf Tail Town."
"Order Wolfhoof to raid nearby villages to collect grain and conscript able-bodied men."
"Show mercy to those willing to surrender, but show no mercy to those who resist!"
"Yes, Saint Master!"
Gala didn’t question the order at all, promptly responded and ran down to relay the commands.
Vivian was somewhat curious and turned to look at Luo De,
"Not attacking the city?"
"The army has been marching rapidly for five days; our soldiers need rest."
With a calm smile, Luo De said, "Besides, the vast Moon Wolf Plains are full of wealth; it’s not us who should be anxious."
"Our primary goal is resources, land comes second."
Generally, a forced march of three days is already the limit; the Vanguard Corps and Breath of Giant Dragon can advance quickly because of the support from entries.
But even if the body doesn’t feel fatigue, the mental exhaustion is unbearable.
Sustained high-intensity marching causes attention dispersion and slower reaction times.
Most importantly, Luo De couldn’t completely exploit the army, or they’d be defenseless in a surprise attack.
Wolf Tail Town has ready-built houses and fences for defense, along with granaries and water sources, not only allowing soldiers to rest well but also saving most of the workload of setting up camp.
Moreover, the terrain is flat on plains, and villages are very dense.
Now it’s late spring, the harvest season for winter wheat, and everyone is quite wealthy.
The grain consumed by the army during marching can be fully replenished from these villages.
As for captured slaves, it’s pure profit.
Luo De wouldn’t be led by the nose by the Moon Wolf family.
Since they are prepared to defend the city, Luo De is naturally not in a hurry to attack.
Either the Moon Wolf family painfully accepts losses and continues to hold the fortress.
Watching helplessly as one village after another in their territory is plundered.
Or wait until Luo De has taken all the valuables, the army has rested well, and then launch the city siege.
Or the Moon Wolf family sends their army to take the initiative and engage Luo De’s troops in the plains.
But in that case, the Moon Wolf family would lose the protection of city walls.
Their meticulously prepared fortifications and dragon-slaying crossbows would all lose their significance.
Of course, Luo De dares to do this also because of an important premise.
That is, Prince Jin Chui is now simultaneously bearing the attack of three other armies, and has no power to send reinforcements to support Moon Wolf City.
Vivian turned her head earnestly looking at Luo De, her eyes shining,
"So complex, I learned something."
War is not just about the combat between soldiers.
It’s also the game between commanders, utilizing everything around to create favorable conditions for oneself.
Vivian, equipped with good education and abundant knowledge, is not dumb, just dislikes thinking.
Luo De explained simply and she understood.
Luo De smiled but didn’t say much.
Taking out a silver whistle, he blew it hard at his lips.
Frost and Thunder descended one after another.
Soon the two mounted the dragon, flying towards Wolf Tail Town.
As fast as the Vanguard Corps is, it can’t compare to the speed of dragon flight.
By the time the dusty Wolf Tail Town streets appeared, Luo De was already standing at the forefront of the legion, scrutinizing this empty town.
Gang Le led a team of soldiers to complete a preliminary search, emerging from the depths of the town.
Gang Le quickly walked to Luo De, respectfully bowed,
"Lord, there’s no one inside."
"They evacuated in a rush, apart from some valuables, most things remain."
"There’s still half a warehouse of freshly harvested grain in the town granary!"
"Mm."
Luo De nodded slightly, then turned to look at Lusen standing by,
"Check the grain and water sources in the town."
Luo De meant to examine if these entry points had been poisoned or cursed.
This is something the army must do every time before setting up camp.
Though Luo De hadn’t encountered such a thing, both in past life and present, histories have recorded such events.
Being careful is never wrong.
"Yes!"
Lusen naturally understood, responded and walked quickly toward the town’s well.
Then, just as Lusen passed by the reconnaissance team, he suddenly stopped.
Lusen stood still, slowly turned his head, gazing warily at the team that had just emerged from the town.
Luo De also sensed something was amiss, followed Lusen’s gaze, finally locking his sight on a soldier standing with lowered head and a cold, wooden expression.
Gang Le realized something was wrong, swiftly turned and called out,
"Ryland, step forward!"
Gang Le loudly ordered the soldier that Luo De was watching.
"You’re quite alert."
Ryland lifted his head, his voice suddenly turned cold, drawing a longsword from his waist,
"But you all still have to die..."
Before the words fell, Ryland’s voice suddenly changed!
"Shut up!"
A look of pain appeared on his face, an utterly different crisp voice filled with struggle and anger,
"I will never let you harm the Lord!"
Ryland’s left hand sharply raised, pressing down tightly on his right wrist holding the sword!
He exerted all his strength to grip his wrist, nails embedded into flesh, forcing himself to loosen his grip on the sword hilt!
Ryland’s face was twisted with pain, veins bulging on his forehead, as if a fierce struggle was happening inside his body!
"My work points are enough... My sister will become a witch..."
Ryland gritted his teeth, "Even if it means dying... You won’t..."
Before he finished speaking, with a heavy thud, Ryland fell to his knees!
"Damn it!"
The cold voice sounded again!
A shadow awkwardly flew out, crashing to the ground!
Without any hesitation, the shadow swiftly fled towards the inside of the town!
