Chapter 264: 262. Battle 10: Dana 3

"The blood moon is finally here," Lazarus said with his head tilted up. The blood moon they had all been waiting for was here and he could feel his strength growing by the second, his wounds healing much quicker than they would have due to the silver mixed in his blood. Every werewolf and vampire must be experiencing the same now the witches wouldn’t be an exception either. "Be careful not to over do it, Dana."

Dana cocked her head to the side, meeting his gaze fleetingly before she nodded, "I will," with the verbal affirmation, she returned her focus to the humans. Killing them was something she would have avoided if given the chance but they have hurt too many of her people and now she can no longer make herself to stop and spare their lives even if she wanted to.

"Maintain your distance but do not cease fire," Hunter instructed. Something was wrong he could sense it but he didn’t know what it was it. The shifters before them were looking up at the moon as if they were expe ting something g from it while the witches power seem to increase. If they were any closer than they were now, he was sure they would lifted and tossed to their deaths.

"The blood moon," he muttered. He had heard Crysta mention something about the blood moon to Jared before, she also said the next blood moon was near but she had failed to tell them when and now they had picked the wrong time to attack these creatures. "F*ck," he cursed at the realization. Had they known, then they would have attacked before or after the blood moon.

"Commander," a soldier called and ran to stand in front of Hunter, shielding from getting struck by a small tree branch sent flying their way. "Aaahh," he coughed up blood as it penetrated his chest and he dropped to his knees.

Hunter was taken aback by the sudden occurrence but there was nothing that he could do now to help the dying man. He couldn’t even pull that branch from his chest else he would die immediately. "Can you walk? I will cover you," he asked but the soldier shook his head.

"Leave me here," he said as he used his own hands to pull it out of his chest. He groaned in pain but tried hard not to show any weakness which he failed drastically. "Something has changed about them.... commander... they should not have healed... so quickly but... they have...all recovered," he tried to warn him but Hunter shook his head and gritted his teeth. The tide has been turned on them and that witch was trying to kill him.

"Save your energy, soldier, I am aware of what has changed. It is the blood moon," Hunter replied but the man’s eyes were losing their color faster than he had expected. "Rest in peace," he said and used his hand to close his eyes when he felt him go still and his breathing stopped. This man had saved him so this was the least he could in their current situation. They had expected lives to be lost but they were certain of victory. Now when that was only a hand stretch away, it has suddenly became too far out of reach. "RETREAT!"

This as the only way to make sure no one else died trying to save him. He couldn’t hate the witch for targeting him, he also targetted her so it was only fair if she tried to kill too. The only problem was that the soldiers won’t let him die unless they were no more and he didn’t want that. He didn’t want that to happen. He felt helpless in the past when he was unable to protect his family, he wouldn’t want that to repeat itself with these soldiers that he had with him now.

The soldiers didn’t need to be told twice as they were already contemplating that but wouldn’t dare to leave without being told to do so. The had pledged allegiance and absolute devotion to the army.

"I am afraid you won’t be going anywhere," a man’s voice was heard behind them and they all became more alert than they already were.

"A vampire," They said uttered in unison. It was quite easy to guess but it surprised them to see the vampires helping the shifters.

"Let them go, captain Leroy, you can take me," Hunter made his way to the front. These vampires were worse than the shifters, they had plans for them but they didn’t expect them to be working together with shifters. The saying that the enemy of my is a friend was playing right in front of them now and they was nothing that they could do about it.

"Leave these ones to us, Luna, you have held them back enough, my boys and I are hungry," Leroy said to Dana ignoring Hunter who was in front of him. Although he didn’t shout, he was certain that she and the rest of the shifters have heard him.

"Okay," Dana replied but she did not take down the shield that she had out around the shifters. Until she was certain that they are all alright and able to stand and defend themselves again, the shield will stay up like that.

"You can stop now, they are all healed," Lazarus placed a hand on the small of her back and gave a gentle caress to ease her up a bit. "Dont drain yourself anymore."

"How about you?’’ Dana roamed her eyes all over him and the places she knew he was hurt, the wounds were all healed even the ones that were corroding. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

"I am healed as you can see," Lazarus replied and she smiled. "Where is Kora?" he asked now that he finally had the time to think about something else.

"I have left her with the girls, they will be fine without me," She replied but Lazarus felt unease settle down on him. "I feel it too, but there was nothing that can be done," she said when she saw the small frown on Lazarus’s face.

"Let’s us go and find her," Lazarus said. He didn’t want to stay here again and watch as the vampires massacred the humans. He was not sorry for them but just didn’t want to watch them do it. There was something more important that needed go be done like finding his daughter and making sure she did not do something stupid.
