Even so, Gladys refused to admit it. "It’s none of your business."

"It’s my business. I’ll say it again, take it off."

Janice’s expression was cold.

"No!" Gladys was stubborn.

Janice stared at her, grinding her teeth audibly.

"Very well, since you’re not going to remove it, I’ll help you remove it." As she spoke, Janice charged forwards. Gladys dodged while shouting for help.

"Malcolm, help!"

"Janice, let’s talk nicely."

"Come here."

"Janice."

As the three of them were engaged in a mess, Christopher’s voice suddenly sounded behind them.

Janice was stunned for a moment before turning around to look.

"Why are you here?"

She was shocked.

Christopher walked over with a frown and stopped in front of her.

"I was worried, so I followed you. Didn’t you say you were going to work overtime?" Janice immediately lowered her head guiltily when she heard this.

Christopher didn’t ask any more. He just glanced at Malcolm and Gladys, nodded to them, and said, "This dress belonged to my grandma. I hope you can return it."

"Be...belonged?"

Gladys’ face suddenly turned pale.

Christopher nodded. "Yes, it was left behind by my grandma."

Hearing that, Gladys turned and went into the bathroom as if she had seen a ghost.

As Gladys was changing clothes in the bathroom upstairs, Janice and Christopher were waiting in the living room downstairs listening to Malcolm’s explanation.

Vanessa fetched a glass of water and placed it in front of Christopher. "My dear brother-in-law, have some water." Christopher nodded to express his gratitude.

Vanessa stood aside and took the opportunity to say, "Christopher, I have something I need your help with."

Hearing this, Christopher frowned imperceptibly and said, "Go ahead."

Vanessa bit her lip and plucked up her courage to say, "I want to work at your company."

Christopher already knew that she was going to talk about this, so he said, "I’m not in charge of recruitment. You can submit your resume through the proper channels."

Vanessa replied "I did, but I never got an interview."

Christopher shrugged. "I can’t help with that."

Vanessa frowned.

"How could it be? You are the most authoritative person in the company."

"Sometimes, the highest authority doesn’t have to participate in everything."

Upon hearing this, Vanessa was unwilling to give up. She was just about to say something when Janice beat her to it.

"Vanessa, I’ve already told Dad. It’s not suitable for you to work there."

"That’s right, Vanessa. Stop it." Malcolm piped in.

Vanessa was a little angry.

"Not suitable? What do you mean not suitable?"

Vanessa wore an unconvinced expression.

When Janice saw her arrogant attitude, she didn’t want to reply her and turned her head away.

Vanessa became even angrier when she saw this. She pulled Janice up from the sofa and said, "Tell me, why am I unsuitable?"

This time, before Janice could react, Christopher stood up directly.

"It’s not suitable for you simply because of your current attitude towards your sister."

He pulled Janice into his protective embrace. His cold gaze swept over Vanessa, causing her to shiver. She did not dare to ask anything else and could only stand there pitifully.

At this moment, Gladys came downstairs with the clothes in the bag, and handed it over.

"Well... I’m sorry, I didn’t know it belonged to your late grandmother."

...

Janice didn’t reply, she just took the bag from Gladys. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂

At the moment, Gladys’ apology was meaningless.

She said to Christopher, "Let’s go."

Christopher nodded, and then the two of them left.

Gladys breathed a sigh of relief, but said with a look of disgust, "What bad luck! I wore a dead person’s clothes."

With that, she turned around and walked upstairs in disgust.

After Janice and Christopher left the Gladwells house, they drove back to their own place.

On the way, Janice looked at Christopher and bit her lips. "I’m sorry." Christopher was driving. Hearing her apology, he frowned and looked at her. "Why are you apologizing?"

Guilt flickered in Janice’s eyes. "It’s all because of me that your grandfather couldn’t even have a good birthday celebration."

Her tone was guilt-ridden.

Christopher shook his head helplessly. He reached out to hold the back of her hand and said, "Didn’t I say that Grandpa wouldn’t care?"

"But he looked really sad today," said Janice with concern.

Christopher frowned.

"You don’t believe me?"

Janice shook her head.

Christopher said "Then it’s settled. You really don’t have to care too much about this matter."

Janice thought to herself, How could she not care?

Aside from Christopher, Old Mr. Allson was the only person in their family who treated her the best. Now, because of her, she had hurt him. How could she not care?

However, she also knew that it was useless to blame herself now.

Her top priority was to figure out a way to resolve it as soon as possible.

As she thought about this, she glanced at the clothing bag and made up her mind.

The next morning, Janice went to many drycleaners in Tomaville.

She spent the entire morning visiting over twenty dry cleaners. In the end, they had all rejected her request on the grounds that the dress was too delicately crafted.

Janice was a little depressed. Was this dress really that hard to clean?

Just then, her phone rang. It was from Yvonne, calling to have a meal with her.

Janice was depressed after a futile morning, so she agreed.

The two of them made an appointment at a restaurant. When Janice arrived, Yvonne was already there.

She sat down with the bag of clothes. Yvonne glanced at her curiously and asked, "What are you carrying?"

Frowning, Janice replied, "It’s a dress, but I’ve asked many cleaners, but they refused to accept it for cleaning."

"Is that so?" Yvonne frowned. "Show me."

Janice handed over the bag.

Yvonne took the dress out from the bag and opened it with a look of surprise.

"Where did you get it? The craftsmanship of this is superb."

Even Yvonne, an amateur, could tell that the dress was really valuable.

Janice couldn’t help but frown. After a pause, she said, "This belonged to Christopher’s grandmother."

"Oh, I see." Yvonne nodded. "No wonder. It’s that Mrs. Allson."

She whispered.

However, Janice heard her clearly. "Yvonne, do you know Christopher’s grandmother?"

Yvonne nodded. "I’ve heard a little about her."

"Can you tell me?"

Janice thought to herself, ’The more I know about her, the easier it might be to resolve this.’

Yvonne thought for a moment and said, "I don’t know much. I’ve only heard rumors. It’s said that when Mr. Allson was young, he doted on his wife very much and was famous for his obedient to his wife."

...

"Is that so?"

Janice, on the other hand, was a little surprised. Although she knew that Christopher’s grandfather was deeply in love with her grandmother, she never expected that he would listen to his wife’s every word.

This was very different from the grandfather she knew. For some reason, there was a cute sense of contrast.

"But what’s the story with this dress?"

Yvonne asked.

Janice sighed and told Yvonne what had happened yesterday.

After hearing this, Yvonne was exasperated. "Your aunt is too irresponsible. But, why do I feel like she did that on purpose?"

"What do you mean on purpose?"

Janice didn’t understand.

Yvonne said, "Look, didn’t your father-in-law disagree to your marriage? Why did he suddenly invite your parents over? It was so coincidental, and yet such a mistake happened."

Janice originally did not think too much about it and thought that it was just a coincidence. However, after hearing Yvonne’s analysis, she had a realization.

The wine spill last night was indeed strange, as if she was deliberately sending her away.

If she had known that Gladys went to change clothes at that time, she would have followed her, and such a thing would not have happened.

However, it was clearly too late to pursue all of this now.

She said, "Maybe it’s just as you said, but the most important thing now is to return the dress in good condition."

Yvonne paused and said, "Why don’t you search online? Maybe there will be experts who are familiar with this type of craftsmanship."

Janice nodded when she heard this.

At present, that was the only way.

After the meal, the two of them left together. As they walked out of the door, they ran into Sophie and Denise walking in.

When the four met, Janice had no intention of paying attention to them. After all, their relationship had already been completely ruined and there was no need for false pretenses.

She was about to pretend that she didn’t see them when Sophie spoke. "Janice, we meet again."

Janice was forced to stop when he heard this. "That’s right, we meet again. What bad luck."

She snorted.

Sophie didn’t mind. She said to Denise, "Denise, go in first. I’ll be right with you."

Denise nodded and gave Janice a mocking look before she left.

It was as though she was saying: See? So what if you defeated me?

After Denise left, Sophie looked at Janice but pretended to unintentionally glance at Yvonne.

Yvonne knew that Sophie was most likely despising her presence, so she said softly into Janice’s ear, "Don’t stand on ceremony. Return everything she said last night right back at her."

Janice naturally knew what Yvonne meant.

She chuckled and only looked at Sophie after Yvonne left.

"What’s up? You’ve deliberately chased them away. Are you planning to fight me one on one?"

Janice’s tone was full of sarcasm.

Sophie instead curled her lips in disdain.

"One-on-one? Do you deserve it?"

Her words were sarcastic. "Aren’t you now busy with dresses?"

As Sophie spoke, she glanced meaningfully at the bag in Janice’s hand.

Janice remained silent, her expression cold.

Seeing her reaction, Sophie knew that she had guessed correctly. She continued in a good mood, "I have to remind you that Grandpa cares most about Grandma’s things. There was once a maid who accidentally burnt Grandma’s favorite clothes when she was ironing them. Do you know what happened to her?"
