Flash Marriage: My Penniless Billionaire Husband
Chapter 37: His Voice Was Too Gentle
After Vanessa finished what she had to say, Malcolm glared at her.
"Vanessa."
Vanessa said angrily. "Why? Why can’t I say it? It’s not something shameful."
"You..." Malcolm put down his utensils.
Gladys who just wanted to stand aside, felt Malcolm’s anger and put her hand on Vanessa to stop her.
Only then did Vanessa shut up.
Gladys glanced around and tried to meditate. "Never mind what she said. She has never been in a relationship, so she doesn’t know what’s going on. Dating is different from marriage. Before you get married, you can date with someone, break up at any time, and don’t have to be responsible for it. Besides, it’s not a big deal to have several boyfriends before marriage, right?"
What Vanessa said didn’t make too much sense. However, Gladys’s explanation sounded more suggestive.
She made it sound like Janice was an irresponsible person.
Janice thought angrily, "What are they thinking about? Are they trying to make me feel bad on purpose?"
She glanced at Christopher who was sitting expressionless.
Janice worried that he might be mistaken about her.
She said angrily, "Are you finished yet? Please shut up while eating."
Gladys said unhappily, "Janice, your sister is concerned about you. How can you say that?"
"Concerned about me? Does she really care about me? Why did she mention my ex-boyfriend right in front of my husband? Gladys, is this how you raised her?"
"You..."
"I think we’re done here. Christopher, let’s go."
Janice said while walking out of the door.
Christopher got up and grabbed her arm from behind to stop her.
"Janice."
Janice stopped and turned around, "What?"
"If you just leave, what will they think?" Christopher asked.
"What do you mean? They can think whatever they want."
She frowned and lowered her head.
Christopher said, "Honey, if we left, they would think that we’re going to quarrel with each other back home. Do you want them to think that?"
Janice shook her head.
Christopher said, "Then, the more they want to rile you up, the more you should control your anger. If they can’t achieve their goal, they’ll give up."
"But you..." Janice swallowed back the words.
Christopher asked, "What about me?"
Janice said directly, "Don’t you feel unhappy after hearing that?"
Christopher frowned and asked, "Did I say that I am unhappy?"
Janice opened her mouth but could not speak.
Christopher rubbed her head and said, "Let’s go."
He held Janice’s shoulder and turned back to the box.
"Janice has a quick temper. You are all her family. I don’t think you hold that against her."
"Of course not. She’s been like this ever since she was a child."
Malcolm said displeasedly.
Christopher chuckled and pull the seat for Janice. Then he sat back while taking a glance at Gladys and Vanessa.
"Since you just mentioned dating and marriage, I have my own opinion. Although we get married, we love each other as much as before and that certificate is just a promise."
He placed the soup in front of Janice and asked, "What do you think?"
His voice was gentle.
Janice stared at Christopher deeply.
...
Even if Gladys and Vanessa were trying to stir things up, he still chose to believe in her.
She was moved. In her entire life, he was only the second one to protect her; the first was her mother. Even her father, Malcolm, just stood aside.
Thinking of this, Janice’s heart beat faster. She nodded to show her agreement and gratitude.
"Honey, drink it while it’s warm."
He seemed to be very satisfied with her answer and gently touched her head. At that moment, Janice felt a sense of happiness.
On their way home, Janice was still touched by his consideration. Sitting in the passenger seat, she stared at Christopher who was driving. There was an indescribable feeling in her heart.
Christopher seemed to feel her gaze and looked over. "What’s wrong? Is there something on my face?"
Janice shook her head.
"Then why are you staring at me?" Christopher asked.
Janice’s eyebrows curved. "You were really attractive today."
She blushed with considerable shyness.
Christopher snorted, "Only today?"
Janice shook his head. "Of course not. You’re handsome every day but in particular today."
And masculine.
"Then... do you want to do something with your handsome husband now?"
Christopher suddenly asked.
"What?"
Janice confusedly looked at him.
Christopher just smiled, then he stopped the car at the door of the apartment.
He unlocked his seat belt and suddenly got closer.
Janice was unlocking her seat belt while Christopher suddenly approached. When she was wondering what he was going to do, a kiss fell on her lips. It only lasted for a few seconds.
After he moved, Janice stared at him in a daze.
Christopher frowned and asked, "What’s wrong? Do you want more?" Janice finally gathered her senses and blushed. "Why are you so bad? I don’t want to talk to you."
Then she escaped from the car. Christopher couldn’t help but smile as he stared at her.
Thinking of what Vanessa had said earlier, he knocked on the wheel several times before he got out of the car.
At home, Janice leaned against the door and recalled that kiss.
In fact, this wasn’t the first time Christopher had kissed her, but she felt different this time. Previously, she was just shy and embarrassed.
But today, she found her heart beat fast when he kissed her, as if it could jump out of her chest at any time.
She couldn’t make it clear.
"Woof, woof!"
Hearing a burst of sound, Janice realized that it was from Nino.
She went to the dog’s nest and squatted down. "Are you hungry? I’ll feed you."
While she was about to pour the dog food into the basin, Christopher came in and glanced in her direction.
Somehow, Janice suddenly blushed and even dropped the bag of dog food.
Christopher frowned, stepped forward, and took the food from her hand. "Let me do it."
He accidentally touched Janice’s hand. She quickly stood up and walked to the bedroom.
Christopher frowned. He was a little envious of Nino now.
