Flash Marriage: My Penniless Billionaire Husband
Chapter 48: To Warn Janice In Advance
Rob was not used to Mr. Bateman’s attitude, because he had always paid so much attention to keep his identity a secret.
"I’ll be careful."
Then Rob turned around and left.
Christopher put down the document and rubbed his temples.
It was not a big deal, but it also reminded him that Janice was a reporter with a sharp vision.
Therefore, his identity was a hidden danger.
It seemed that he needed to take some measures to warn Janice in advance.
Then Christopher picked up his phone and dialed.
In the TV station, when Janice was writing, the phone suddenly rang. She picked it up.
"Christopher."
Hearing her voice, his eyes unconsciously softened. "What do you want to eat for dinner? I’ll book a table."
Janice thought for a moment and said, "How about Japanese food?"
Christopher agreed, "Okay, I’ll pick you up."
Just as he was about to hang up the phone, Janice said, "By the way, you can invite Rob to dinner. He helped me out with a news story recently. I haven’t thanked him yet. I want to express my gratitude."
Upon hearing this, Christopher frowned. Sure enough, Janice was always considerate towards everyone that helped her.
He said, "He doesn’t have time tonight. Maybe next time."
"I see. Well, see you tonight."
Janice hung up the phone and felt a little regretful. However, thinking that there would be plenty of opportunities in the future, she did not think too much about it.
"Janice, have you heard? Something was wrong in our TV station recently."
As soon as Janice put the phone away, Lucy stretched out her head and whispered.
Janice was surprised. "What’s up?"
Lucy whispered, "I heard that there was a financial problem."
"Really?"
Janice was surprised.
Lucy continued, "I heard that the variety show department had stopped recording several shows."
"Stop? Seriously?"
Lucy said, "Yes! I heard that several sponsors suddenly withdrew their funds, so they had to stop."
Janice was surprised. "Aren’t those sponsors signed for the whole season? How could they withdraw?"
"Well, the sponsor has the final say. If they decided, we should only follow them."
Lucy sighed.
Janice understood. However, those shows were really unlucky.
"Also, I heard that you didn’t secure any sponsor at that promotional cocktail party. So recently, it’s been really hard for our Director Taylor."
Janice asked surprisedly, "Didn’t he just start though? Why are there so many problems?"
"That’s right. It seems like the old Director left this mess to our new director."
Hearing this, Janice thought of what had happened in the morning. No wonder Benjamin had come in so early. It turned out that he was under a lot of pressure.
She was just a small reporter. Would the crisis affect her?
In the evening, she and Christopher went out for Japanese food.
Janice kept thinking about her work. She gradually felt anxious. How could it have nothing to do with her?
There were sure to be budget cuts ahead.
So the next step would be reducing the staff count.
If anyone was to be dismissed, the employees in the news department would come first. After all, in terms of the ratings, their department was the lowest-performing.
If so, would she be dismissed?
Thinking of this, Janice couldn’t stay calm anymore.
...
Seeing her worried face, Christopher frowned and asked, "Is anything troubling you?"
Looking at Christopher, Janice couldn’t help sighing in her heart, "If I lost my job, what would he do?"
She had promised to support him.
But in light of the current situation, she was afraid that he would break her promise.
She felt so guilty.
Then she pursed her lips, and said, "Christopher, what should I do if I lose my job?"
Christopher surprisedly asked, "Why do you say that? What happened?"
Janice did not answer immediately. After all, it was just her imagination. It didn’t really happen yet. So she said, "I mean if."
Christopher chuckled, "Then it would be my turn to take care of you."
"Really?" She felt a burst of joy in her heart. That was what she didn’t expect. But then she remembered that Christopher didn’t have a job at all. Without any income, how could he support her?
She then frowned, "But, you haven’t got a job yet."
However, the corners of Christopher’s lips curled up slightly. Only Janice would think that he didn’t have a job.
However, this was a good opportunity for him to give Janice a warning.
He looked at her and said, "There isn’t only one way to make money."
Janice was confused. "What does he mean?"
Seeing her puzzled look, Christopher explained, "For example, investment."
"Investment? Do you mean that you have some investment projects?"
Janice was surprised.
Christopher nodded.
However, Janice did not quite believe him. After all, he had nothing to do every day. What kind of investment could he invest in? Moreover, did he have money to invest?
She became more doubtful.
<Is he just trying to comfort me?
Well, at least he doesn’t complain about me.
Well, maybe it’s just a matter of pride. I’ll humor him.>
Thinking of this, Janice decided not to expose him. Then she said, "Well, that’s good. Let’s eat first."
She changed the subject.
Her reaction made Christopher frown.
Upon returning home, Janice began to keep the accounts. She had always had the habit of doing so.
She found that they had spent too much recently. It seemed that they would better not go out to eat in the future. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
After all, they were not well-off.
When Christopher entered the room, he saw her looking at a small notebook.
He approached Janice quietly and saw that there were many shopping receipts in the notebook.
Christopher didn’t expect Janice to have the habit of bookkeeping.
It seemed that she didn’t believe him.
So his words had no effect?
Christopher was depressed. This was really a headache.
The next day, as Janice went to the news department, she saw a group of colleagues gathering there and chatting.
"Have you heard that there was another sponsor who withdrew the funds yesterday?"
"Why? Will it affect our department?"
"It’s hard to say. Although we have GD’s support, it’s not completely secure. Anything could change now."
...
Everyone began to worry.
After listening to their discussion, Janice was also very worried.
She didn’t expect things to be so tough.
"So, Janice, did you hear any news?"
Someone suddenly asked.
Janice shook her head. She had heard this information from them.
"Aren’t you a classmate of Director Taylor? It’s more convenient for you to pry into the news. Why don’t you ask Director Taylor? Thus we could know exactly about the situation.
"Yeah, yeah, Janice. Please help us find out."
Several colleagues echoed.
Janice didn’t want to ask Benjamin about such things.
She quickly found an excuse, "It’s so early. I’m afraid that he hasn’t come yet."
However, someone immediately said, "Director Taylor came early this morning. He’s in his office now."
Janice was a little embarrassed. "But it’s too early in the day to bring this up."
"Please, Janice."
Looking at their imploring eyes, Janice felt that she had no choice.
"Well, I’ll ask him."
Finally, Janice came to Benjamin’s office.
However, she was still not sure if she should ask.
After all, as the director, Benjamin should be more anxious than any of them. If she came to ask at this time, wouldn’t she make him feel worse?
Thinking of this, Janice was about to leave.
"Janice?"
However, Benjamin came out and saw her.
Therefore, Janice had to look back at him. "Director Taylor."
Benjamin’s eyes fell on her face, and there was a rare smile in his eyes. "What’s the matter?"
Janice didn’t know how to answer his question.
In fact, she was also very curious.
So, she finally asked, "Well...It’s just that everyone is in a panic, so I want to ask if there’s something wrong with the TV station."
Hearing this, Benjamin felt disappointed. Actually, he had guessed that she came here for the official business. But when he heard what she had said, he was still upset.
Benjamin didn’t answer her for a long time, then she thought that it might be inconvenient for him to say, so she quickly said, "Director Taylor, if it is not convenient, forget it. Just a casual question"
Benjamin said, "There’s nothing inconvenient. To be honest, there is something wrong, but it’s not as serious as everyone thinks. I’ll try to solve it."
Upon hearing his words, Janice did not ask anymore. She said, "Then I won’t disturb you. See you."
After that, she was about to leave.
"Janice."
Benjamin stopped her.
Janice turned around.
Benjamin’s gaze fell on her face, and his hands slowly clenched into fists. He seemed to gather up his courage, then he said, "You... really don’t want to forgive me?"
Looking into his eyes, somehow, a trace of panic flashed across her heart.
It wasn’t a matter of forgiveness, because it was pointless now.
After all, she was already married. It was impossible for them to get together.
So, what was the meaning of her forgiveness?
