Flash Marriage: My Penniless Billionaire Husband
Chapter 70: How Could Such A Poor Man Sit There?
At this time, Gladys, who was in the banquet hall, found that something was wrong, so she rushed out of the crowd.
Seeing this scene, she felt so satisfied that she could have a chance to make trouble for Janice and her husband.
She quickly pretended to be angry and rushed forward to ask, "How dare you behave like this? Where are security guards? Get the troublemaker out of here."
The security guards, who were standing outside to maintain order, rushed towards Christopher.
Rob was about to stop them, but Christopher stopped him with his cold eyes and then shouted, "Don’t even think about it!"
Seeing that, the two security guards really stopped.
Looking at the two security guards, Gladys cursed inwardly!
She stepped forward with a sneer.
"If it weren’t for the sake of Janice, we wouldn’t even let you enter the door of our house."
Gladys snorted coldly.
"You..."
When Janice was about to retort, Christopher stopped her. He wanted to see how many tricks this stepmother had.
Seeing that neither of them responded, Gladys continued, "What do you want to say, Janice? Today is your father’s birthday, but you and your husband came here to make trouble. Are you aiming to bring bad luck to your father?"
Upon hearing her words, Malcolm was even angrier. His ego was being carefully stroked by Gladys’s words.
He glared at Janice angrily. "I was so nice to you before and I even wanted to ask your husband to work in the Gladwell Group. You are so ungrateful!" 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
Seeing Malcolm get ignited, Gladys felt relieved. She wanted Malcolm give up the idea of bringing Christopher into the Gladwell Group.
Now it seemed like she had achieved her goal. Then she said, "I had said that not everyone could enter our company, but you didn’t listen. Well, don’t be angry. Now you finally recognize it."
Gladys whispered in Malcolm’s ear.
Malcolm snorted, "You’re right. She’s dead to me now."
While he was speaking, someone interrupted.
"Why are you at the entrance?"
Daniel walked over.
Seeing Daniel, Malcolm quickly greeted him with a smile.
"It’s Mr. Pattinson. I’m so honored to have you at my birthday party. Please come in. It’s my family affair. Sorry."
"Family affair?"
Daniel looked around and seemed to understand the situation. There were so many people watching the show, but Chris and his wife were standing outside. It was obviously not a good affair.
He said, "Mr. Gladwell, it’s not good for you to treat guests like this."
Malcolm was stunned for a moment, and then he understood the meaning of Daniel’s words.
"Mr. Pattinson, there is something you don’t know. This is family business. Come on, don’t let such things upset you. Please, come and have a seat."
"Ah, but that’s your son-in-law’s seat." Daniel moved to get rid of his touch.
Malcolm was embarrassed, but he was afraid of leaving a bad impression on Daniel. Then he said, "Not at all. How could a poor man like him sit there?"
...
Malcolm’s words amused Daniel. He thought, "Talk about a slap to the face." However, It would be Chris who was about to slap him in the face. "Isn’t this Mr. Pattinson?"
An old man in his fifties walked over and asked in a surprised voice. Before he could finish his words, he recognized Christopher Bateman, who was standing at the door. He opened his mouth in shock for a long time before he excitedly said, "Mr. Bateman?"
Christopher looked at the man, but he couldn’t remember who he was.
"Have you forgotten me, Mr. Bateman? I’m Lowin Oden from Lake Technology. We’ve met before at the foreign technological summit."
Thus Christopher remembered this person and said, "Oh, it’s you, Mr. Oden. Nice to meet you."
Lowin was about to cry because he was remembered by Christopher Bateman.
"Mr. Bateman. Please give me more advice on scientific research in the future. I won’t disturb you now."
After that, the old man left.
All those present looked at each other in confusion.
Especially Malcolm and Gladys. The old man who just passed by was a famous senior engineer in the technological field. He often appeared on TV and news, but he just deferred to this poor guy.
"What’s going on?"
Feeling that something was wrong, Malcolm looked at Daniel, "Mr. Pattinson, this..."
Daniel was very happy to see such a scene. He turned to look at Christopher.
Seeing that Christopher did not intend to stop him, Daniel said, "Do you know that the poor guy you’re talking about is the major shareholder of your Gladwell Group?"
His words hit them like a bolt of lightning.
Malcolm only felt that the sky was about to collapse.
Then Christopher said to Janice, "Let’s go."
Janice didn’t say anything but just nodded.
"Mr. Bateman, how about these gifts?" Rob asked.
These gifts were worthless for him. He glanced at Rob and said, "Since you’ve brought them here, there’s no reason to take them back. Put them down."
Then he left with Janice.
Seeing this, Daniel followed behind.
Malcolm was stunned there and did not recover for a long time. Gladys couldn’t help asking, "I must have misheard. Is that guy the major shareholder of the Gladwell Group?"
Gladys’s face was full of disbelief.
However, Malcolm glanced at Gladys and said, "I’m afraid it’s more than that."
After all, even Daniel showed respect to him. He couldn’t be just a major shareholder of the small Gladwell Group.
"Then... then... we..." Gladys was shocked.
"Mom, I just heard my brother-in-law coming. Why didn’t I see him?"
After Vanessa asking, she realized that both her parents’ faces were pale. She could not help wondering what was wrong with them.
Then she inadvertently glanced at several gift boxes and quickly stepped forward and asked, "Who sent them?"
As she spoke, she took off the packages one by one, only to see several delicate porcelain pieces.
"This...Isn’t this genuine porcelain? These are worth millions of dollars."
Someone exclaimed.
As soon as her voice fell, Gladys fainted.
Christopher walked out of the hotel with Janice in his arms. He glanced at the time and said, "Let’s get something to eat."
At this moment, Janice felt grateful but guilty.
...
It was all because of her that Christopher was humiliated.
Even his identity finally shocked Malcolm and Gladys.
But she knew that he had controlled his anger because he cared about her. Thinking of this, she felt even more guilty.
"I’m sorry, Christopher. I always make trouble for you."
Janice pursed her lips.
Christopher said, "It doesn’t matter. You’re my wife."
Hearing this, Janice couldn’t help bursting into tears.
"Honey, don’t cry." Christopher quickly handed over a piece of tissue.
Janice took it and wiped it away. She sadly said, "Christopher, I..."
She didn’t know what to say.
She had never thought that the one who she thought was unreliable treated her the best.
She couldn’t help hugging Christopher. If he wasn’t there, she would have been torn apart by the other guests.
"Thank you, Christopher."
Christopher gently patted Janice to comfort her, and a smile couldn’t help curling up the corners of his lips.
Janice realized that she had just lost control of herself. She felt a little embarrassed as she left his embrace.
However, Christopher stared at her.
"Then do you still want to divorce me?"
"I..."
Janice was about to blurt out "No". However, she thought it would be a decision made out of gratitude. It was not serious at all.
Then she thought for a moment and said, "Can I give you the answer tomorrow?"
Christopher nodded. "Okay, I’ll wait for you."
He drove Janice to the entrance of the alley.
Janice unfastened her seat belt while saying, "Do you want to take Nino back tonight?"
Christopher said, "No need, let Nino stay with you."
Janice nodded.
"Okay, then I’ll go back. You drive slowly on the road."
When she was about to get out of the car, Christopher said, "Janice."
Janice turned to look at him.
"I’m waiting for your answer."
Janice nodded and walked on.
When Janice got home, Nino jumped all over her in the joy. She squatted down and picked it up. She remembered Christopher’s eyes which were full of expectation. She said to Nino.
"Nino, tell me, how should I answer tomorrow?"
She actually had an answer in her heart, but she was hesitating.
She wanted to say, "I’m sorry, Christopher. I was wrong. I shouldn’t ask you to get divorced because of my stubbornness."
Or, she could say, "Christopher, I was wrong. I know you are different from other rich people. You love me and respect me, so I want to take back the decision."
Or...
There were too many versions in her mind, and Janice was a little confused.
Nino was flustered by her swaying about, only releasing a whimpering of protest.
Then Janice put Nino down. She knew that it was going to be restless night.
The next day, Janice was woken up by a call from Malcolm.
Janice knew what he wanted to say so she didn’t answer the phone.
Every time he hurt her, he would call her to comfort her, and then he thought he would be forgiven.
However, this time, Janice didn’t want to repeat the circle. There were some things that she couldn’t pretend to have, such as the ties of kinship.
Just as she was about to lie down, the phone rang again. Janice was a little annoyed. When she was about to hang up, she found that it was from Old Mr. Allson. She picked it up in surprise.
"Janice, do you have time to meet in the morning?"
