Flash Marriage: My Penniless Billionaire Husband
Chapter 84: Not A Good Thing
The return of Christopher surprised Janice. She didn’t expect him to come back at noon.
She put down Nino down and asked, "Why are you back?"
Christopher raised the lunch box in his hand.
Janice thought to herself, "How could he know that I haven’t eaten yet?"
She was about to reach out for it.
"Go wash your hands first." Christopher said.
Janice realized that she had just touched Nino so she went to wash her hands. When she returned, she saw him setting the table. The lunch was quite abundant. Furthermore, all the food items were her favorites. A smile inadvertently curled up the corners of her lips.
"You haven’t told me that why you are so happy?" Christopher looked up at her. Janice said, "I made a decision." "What decision?" Christopher asked.
Janice said, "Do you remember that you once asked me to think about changing jobs? I’ve decided to take an opportunity to do so."
"Really?"
Hearing what she said, Christopher looked over.
"I’ve decided to join the new program of the TV station. I’ll go to the program group tomorrow." Janice said with a smile.
Christopher frowned. "You said you would rest for a few days first."
Janice said, "I can have a rest at any time, but there is only one chance for this to go right."
Seeing that she was quite happy, Christopher didn’t say anything further.
After he set the table, Nino came over. Only then did he realize that Nino seemed different. He looked at it carefully.
"You took Nino to nursing today."
Janice nodded. "Yes. How about its new hairstyle?"
Christopher answered, "Not bad."
After lunch, Christopher returned to work soon.
Janice got up after taking a nap and sent a message to Yvonne.
"Yvonne, I’ve decided to be a news anchor."
Not long after, Yvonne sent a voice message. "Really? What show? When the time comes, I’ll sit in front of the TV like a true fan girl."
Janice said, "The new show hasn’t started yet."
"Well, you must tell me in advance."
Janice replied, "OK, why do you sound like you’re still sleeping? You don’t go to work today?"
Yvonne sighed, "Don’t mention it. Last night, I was forced to participate in a blind date party. It was so late at night that I still haven’t made up for it."
"Oh, have you gained anything?" Janice asked.
"No. You know, I’m not interested in those playboys. But guess who I saw last night."
"Who?"
"Your sister, Vanessa."
Janice was surprised by her words. However, when she thought of the phone call from her father, she felt that it was normal.
"Janice, I heard something at the party, but it may not be accurate. It’s about your family."
Hearing Yvonne’s words, Janice suddenly had a bad feeling.
Janice suddenly had a bad feeling.
After all, Yvonne didn’t like to stir up trouble. Since she decided to tell her, it must not be a good thing.
She said, "What’s the matter?"
Yvonne said, "I heard that your family has been making friends using your husband’s name. The reason why Vanessa could join the party is that she mentioned Christopher’s name."
"Last night, I saw that there were a lot of playboys circling around her. Originally, I didn’t want to tell you this, but I heard some bad rumors. You also know that your hubby’s family pays great attention to their reputation. I was just afraid that their behavior would affect you."
...
Janice understood Yvonne’s worries.
She knew about her family.
Of course they would take advantage of Christopher’s fame.
This was also the reason why she refused to receive Christopher’s help last time.
But she didn’t expect that they already started.
She said, "Thanks for telling me, Yvonne."
"Anyway, be careful. Don’t ruin your reputation in the Batemans."
After the call, Janice directly went back to the Gladwells.
She had to stop them from doing this. She couldn’t let them recklessly defame Christopher.
When Janice arrived, apart from Auntie May, there was only Vanessa.
Upon seeing her, Vanessa snorted, "You’re finally willing to come back."
There was sarcasm in her words.
Janice ignored her and only asked, "Where are the others?"
Vanessa said, "Dad went to work. Mom went to the beauty salon. Why are you looking for them?"
Upon hearing that her father was not at home, Janice decided to leave. However, she recalled what Yvonne had told her.
Although Yvonne’s words were tactful, Janice could still imagine the situation.
"Vanessa, I know that you want to marry into a wealthy family. I won’t stop you, but I hope that you can take your feelings seriously. The upper class are different from us. You should take care."
As soon as she finished her words, Gladys’s voice came from the door. "Oh, it’s Janice. What a lovely surprise."
Gladys seemed to be in a good mood. When she saw Janice standing there, she hurriedly said to her daughter, "Vanessa, Why don’t you pour a glass of water for this rare visitor?"
Vanessa snorted, "Didn’t you hear that she was teaching me a lesson? Why should I pour her some water?"
However, Gladys glared at Vanessa and then said to Janice, "Sit down, please. Your sister is straightforward. Don’t mind."
Janice thought that if she really minded, she would be already dead. Then she said,
"No. I have something to do, so I’ll go first."
When she was about to leave, Gladys stepped forward to stop her and said, "How can you leave without drinking a glass of water? May, go and get a glass of water."
As she spoke, she pulled Janice’s arm and let her sit down on the sofa.
Janice thought that since she had something to say, she then agreed to stay.
Gladys looked at Janice with a hint of shame on her face and said, "Janice, we were ignorant before. Sorry for that."
Janice knew very well the reason why Gladys would speak to her in such a soft voice.
Because of Christopher.
She said, "You don’t have to do this. Although I married a rich and influential man, I am still myself. Let’s make it clear first. I don’t want you to show off in the name of my husband."
Gladys felt uncomfortable, but she still said with a smile.
"Janice, what are you talking about? How could we do so? We have only ever tried to defend your reputation. Right, Vanessa?"
Vanessa rolled her eyes and ignored her.
Gladys awkwardly continued, "Don’t worry about that. We are all your family. We will always look out for your best interests."
"But you have to consider us. If Christopher would like to help your father, your father’s company will develop with twice the growth potential."
...
"Furthermore, if your father’s company operates well, you would be more respectable in the Batemans. Perhaps you will need the Gladwells to support you."
Gladys delivered a long speech, which left Janice’s head in the clouds.
Although it sounded reasonable, she was still talking about how to make use of Christopher.
However, Gladys was talking to the wrong person. Janice thought that if she was a vain person, perhaps she would consider it.
But she was not that kind of person.
Even if she would be mocked by the Batemans in the future, she would not allow them to use Christopher.
She said, "I advise you to stop such thinking like that. I won’t allow you to use Christopher in any way. If you insist, don’t blame me for severing my relationship with you."
After she finished speaking, she got up and walked out.
"Mom, did you hear that? She... actually threatened us."
However, Gladys was motionless. Later, she said with a smile, "You don’t know Janice. If she wanted to do such a thing, she would have done it a long time ago. It’s just an empty threat."
Hearing her mother’s words, Vanessa did not say anything further.
"Oh, by the way, how was the result of the party last night? Did you get anything?"
Vanessa came back too late last night, and she was out all day, so she didn’t have time to ask.
Vanessa confidently said, "You can rest assured. I am the most eye-catching among the crowd. Besides, I also mentioned my brother-in-law last night. So, there were many people circling around me."
Hearing this, Gladys was overjoyed. "That’s good." After Janice left the Gladwells, she felt quite irritated.
Previously, she was happy because of her work. However, now she was in a bad mood.
She knew that they might not take her warning serious, but she had to say it. No matter what, she didn’t want to see her family ruin Christopher’s reputation.
This was what she could not tolerate.
However, she could do nothing but warn them.
For a moment, she was filled with guilt for Christopher.
With the guilt in her heart, she could no longer smile.
At dinner time, Christopher sensed her low spirit. But he didn’t ask about it at the dining table.
When he came out of the shower, he saw Janice was still down in the mouth, he stepped forward and asked, "What’s wrong? You were still quite happy at noon. What ruined your good mood?"
Janice looked at him for a while and then she said, "Do you know what my family did in your name?"
A hint of surprise flashed across Christopher’s face. "Who told you that?"
"It’s not important. Just tell me if you know or not." Janice asked.
Christopher stared at her and answered, "I’ve heard a little, but it’s not a big deal."
However, Janice said, "It’s a big deal. It’s affected your reputation."
Christopher chuckled and scratched her nose.
"Honey, how can my reputation be so vulnerable? It can’t be that bad."
As he spoke, he stood up and walked to the bathroom.
Janice stared at his figure and was greatly touched by his words. She then jumped out of bed, running barefoot and hugging Christopher from behind.
"Why are you so good to me?"
