Chapter 88: Why Didn’t Christopher Tell Her?

Benjamin replied, "Nothing. I was just wanted to ask you about the incident I told you last night. Have you asked him?"

Janice paused for a moment, and then she remembered something. She answered, "Oh, you are talking about the reporters’ certificate? I’ve asked Christopher about it, he said that he would help me to deal with it."

After she finished speaking, she lowered her head and continued to sort out her things.

Benjamin glanced at Janice’s calm face. A trace of doubt flashed across his eyes. He asked, "So, he only said that he would help you to deal with it, but he didn’t tell you the reason?"

Janice felt that there seemed to be a hidden meaning behind his words. She asked, "Why? What’s wrong?"

Benjamin widened his eyes as he thought to himself, "As expected."

He said, "Didn’t he tell you that the reason why your reporters’ license was revoked? It was because someone was sabotaging it."

Janice stopped in her tracks when she heard Benjamin. She raised her head and looked at Benjamin. Starring at him, she questioned, "What do you mean?"

Benjamin frowned. "Janice, this is a matter between you two. I don’t intend to tell you, but I don’t want to see you being kept in the dark."

Janice grew curious when she heard him. "What are you trying to say?"

Benjamin paused for a moment and continued, "Do you know that your reporters’ certificate was revoked because of Nathan Bateman?"

"Nathan Bateman?" Janice thought the name sounded familiar but she couldn’t remember where she had heard it.

"Why? You don’t know who is Nathan Bateman?"

Benjamin was a little surprised.

Janice shook her head. She was just about to ask Benjamin. "Should I know him?"

Suddenly she remembered that Nathan Bateman was the richest man in Tomaville. Wasn’t he Christopher’s father?

So, was her reporters’ license being revoked due to Christopher’s father?

It couldn’t be, right?

She said, "I know him. Where did you hear that? You must have heard it wrong."

It was obvious that she did not believe him. Benjamin’s face turned glum.

He had never realized that he had become so unreliable to Janice.

But, she trusted him so much in the past.

A wave of disappointment flashed through his eyes. "Janice, I don’t need to lie to you with such a thing."

Janice was silent. Judging from Benjamin’s serious expression, she could tell that he was telling the truth.

However, what she didn’t understand was why Christopher’s father would do that.

Why didn’t Christopher tell her?

Janice was puzzled. While she was deep in her thoughts, Benjamin said.

"Go ahead and unpack. I’ll make a move."

As he spoke, he turned around and walked out dejectedly.

Janice was crestfallen after she heard him.

No, she had to know the reason behind this. After all, he was her father-in-law. She had to find out why her father-in-law would do this to her for no reason.

Thinking of that, Janice grabbed her phone and walked out of the office.

As soon as she walked out, she bumped into Denise, who was walking into the office.

"Janice."

Denise stopped her.

For a moment, Janice was startled before she came back to her senses.

Denise said, "What a coincidence. I’m going to meet the sponsors. You should come with me."

Janice was about to say no before she realized that Denise was her superior. Denise’s request was a business matter, while her reporters’ license was a private matter.

It was obvious that business matters were more important.

She nodded. "Okay."

She got in Denise’s car and they went to meet the sponsor.

In the car, Denise was driving when a thought suddenly flashed in her mind. She wondered, "By the way, I saw your car when you were driving back then. It was sparkling clean and looked new. How did you maintain it?"

...

Janice was surprised when she heard Denise. She confessed, "To tell you the truth, the car was indeed a new car. That day you saw me, I just bought the car from the showroom."

"Really?" Denise was a little surprised. After she saw her together with Rob in the parking lot that day, she took a look at her CV. Janice came from a normal family and her family could be considered as a middle-income family at most.

But the car was expensive. It didn’t match her earnings.

She thought that car belonged to Rob so she purposely asked Janice. She didn’t expect that the car belonged to Janice.

Rob must have liked her a lot.

Thinking of that, Denise was even more certain of her opinion towards Janice.

The car soon stopped in front of an open-air square. Denise said, "We still have some time. Why don’t we go there and have a look first?"

Denise pointed at a large shopping mall.

Janice was not in the mood to go shopping, but since she was already here, she could only follow Denise.

They went into a large jewelry store.

Denise was wandering around in the store. Janice was puzzled. She didn’t understand why Denise had brought her to the jewelry store when she had said that she wanted to take her to meet the sponsor.

She asked, "Director Kelshore, do you want to buy jewelry?"

Denise said mysteriously, "No, I’m not buying it. I’m doing some market research."

"Market research?" Janice didn’t understand why they had to do market research when they work in the TV station.

Denise knew that Janice wouldn’t understand, so she explained, "Well, I think we still need to find a jewelry brand to sponsor our show."

Janice was puzzled.

Denise continued, "Our show’s title was The Tide of Love. The theme of our show was love. When we talk about love, there’s nothing more suitable to express it other than with jewelry. Think about it, if one of our guest couples were reunited in our show, wouldn’t it be good publicity for jewelry brands?"

"What if they don’t reunite?" Janice asked confusingly.

"It’s okay too if they don’t. They had loved each other even though they might not end up with each other. They might have loved each other deeply although they are not together anymore. This is the perfect embodiment of jewelry. It’s the belief of love."

Janice thought Denise made perfect sense after she heard her.

She respected Denise even more.

After all, the work culture in the TV station was too materialistic and impetuous. Only a few people would have such an envision.

Denise continued, "I think this brand is great. They match our show in terms of design and branding. What’s more, it’s a new jewelry brand and the business needs to expand all over the country. It will be a win-win situation if we can work together."

After she finished, she looked at Janice subconsciously. There was one more thing that she did not reveal. The person in charge of this jewelry brand was none other than Rob.

Denise thought that she had given the hint clearly. Janice should be able to understand her.

Nevertheless, Janice didn’t understand Denise’s real intention. She was staring at the shiny words on the wall of the jewelry shop: "Love knows no distance. Love conquers all obstacles."

She stared at those words blankly as if she understood the meaning. Denise saw Janice standing in a daze and looked in her direction. "This is their brand concept. Isn’t it perfect for our show?"

Janice nodded at Denise when she heard her. But, a thought suddenly flashed in her mind.

"Can love conquers all obstacles?"

...

In the afternoon, Janice and Lucy went to eat Japanese food together.

Lucy realized that Janice was in a daze ever since she sat down. Janice seemed to have something on her mind, so Lucy asked, "Janice, what’s wrong with you?"

Janice came back to her sense when she heard Lucy. She looked at Lucy and hesitated. Then she asked, "Lucy, do you think that rich people have class discrimination?"

Lucy was a little puzzled by her question, but she replied, "Yes, more or less. It was important for the rich to marry into their own kind. Otherwise, how could there be so many political marriages between the rich?"

Janice nodded in agreement. Political marriages were marriages between families of equal social rank.

What about Christopher?

"Doesn’t he need a political marriage to build an alliance with the rich and the powerful?"

Maybe he was the same as the others. She hadn’t realized it.

Janice’s mood turned sour for no reason once she thought of this.

"What’s wrong with you?" Lucy frowned. "Are you unhappy? Is there something on your mind?"

Janice shook her head. "No."

"By the way, when will you start recording for the show? I’ll come over to support you."

Lucy said.

Janice dismissed her. "No, I’ll be nervous."

Lucy said, "What’s there to be nervous about? It’s not the first time that you’re on-air."

Janice thought. "Yes, this is not the first time I’m doing this but it’s still different."

However, it was a little early to discuss this. After all, they had yet to record the show.

Janice left work half an hour earlier in the evening.

She had promised Yvonne that she would drop by at her hospital to get the painkillers.

Yvonne was being on call in the hospital today so Janice went straight to her office.

Once Yvonne saw her, she handed her a box of medicine which she had prepared a long time ago.

"Here, the painkillers you wanted. Have you thought about it carefully? You don’t want to try again?"

Janice thought, "What’s there to try again? She was so embarrassed yesterday night, she wouldn’t want to repeat that.

She replied, "I’ve made up my mind."

She reached out to take the medicine and kept it in her backpack.

Yvonne sighed. "Well, try not to take it if you can. Even though it could be painful, it could be enjoyable too."

Janice was silent. Yvonne wouldn’t understand her fear.

"By the way, did I read the article I sent you last night?" Yvonne suddenly asked.

It was fine when Yvonne didn’t mention it, but once she mentioned it, Janice’s face turned red. She looked around and quickly closed the door. She said in a low voice, "Where did you get them?"

Yvonne couldn’t help but laughed when she saw Janice’s nervous look. "These articles are everywhere. You’re the only one who hasn’t seen one. What era is it now? Everyone watches porn. You’re just like a baby."

"You are the baby," Janice said.

Yvonne clicked her tongue in disapproval. "Look who’s afraid of it."

"Doesn’t it hurt?" Janice asked.

Yvonne replied, "It’s just natural for humans to mate, okay?"

"Anyway, you are a medical student and you know better. But I know, the pain is definitely not like what you’ve described. It’s definitely not like an ant bite!"

Janice snorted.

Yvonne grimaced. " I said that because I know you’re afraid."

"Really? I thought you are speaking from your own experience." Janice teased.

"What... what are you talking about?"

Janice realized something when Yvonne’s face blushed. "How dare you tease me? You haven’t experienced it too!"

Janice widened her eyes in surprise and continued to question Yvonne as if she had discovered a big secret.
