CEO Office—

As quiet as always. Nia Mitchell frowned, knocked on the door, and walked in.

Maxwell Peary was sitting in his office chair, brows furrowed as he stared at the stack of documents in front of him.

She hadn’t paid attention back in the Office Room, so she had no idea when so many documents had been sent over here.

Hearing the sound, Maxwell Peary lifted his head and glanced at Nia Mitchell.

"Sit over here, or go to the Waiting Room. I’ll try to be quick."

The icy voice floated over. Nia Mitchell froze for a second, then nodded.

She didn’t go to the Waiting Room; she just sat down on the sofa and waited.

A complete silence...

Sitting there, Nia Mitchell would occasionally look at Maxwell Peary, then pick up her phone and keep scrolling mindlessly.

She was really bored, but couldn’t find the best way to kill time.

Glancing at that pile of documents, Nia Mitchell took off her shoes and lay down on the sofa, slowly drifting into dreamland.

"Ring ring ring..."

Nia Mitchell was woken up by her own ringtone. She opened her hazy eyes, a bit disoriented about what time it was.

She answered the call and immediately heard Evelyn Peary’s voice.

"Sister-in-law, where are you? Didn’t we agree you’d come to Madgar Pavilion tonight? I’ve been waiting for you forever."

Not just "forever"—she had been waiting for a really, really long time.

Nia Mitchell blanked, checked the time, and saw it was already past seven. She turned to look at the still-busy CEO sitting there.

"Uncle, Evelyn is asking when we’re going over."

On the other end, when Evelyn Peary heard that, she almost spat blood.

So, turns out the two of them were still at the Company and hadn’t come at all.

"I still need some time to finish things here. Why don’t you take my car and go over first."

He didn’t even lift his head, just kept sitting there, writing and jotting things down nonstop.

Nia Mitchell pouted, sitting there feeling dejected.

Even if she were an idiot, she would know the CEO was actually sulking this whole time.

Acting like this, he was ridiculously awkward.

Nia Mitchell had no idea what to do, so she just sat there and didn’t say a word.

On the phone, Evelyn Peary sensed something was off.

"Sister-in-law?"

"Mm."

Nia Mitchell responded dully.

"Did you and my brother have a fight?"

"A fight? What fight? Did Maxwell Peary bully my daughter-in-law?"

On the other end, as soon as Silvia Waterborne heard what Evelyn Peary said, she immediately spoke up.

As she spoke, she snatched Evelyn Peary’s phone into her own hand.

"What happened? Tell me, I’ll stand up for you."

Nia Mitchell shook her head, and only after a while did she remember they couldn’t see her through the phone, so she continued.

"Nothing, it’s my fault."

Nia Mitchell answered, her eyes never leaving Maxwell Peary.

"Mom, you and Evelyn eat first. We won’t go to Madgar Pavilion tonight. Once Uncle is done here, we’ll just head straight back to the Hillside Villa."

Looking at the situation, Nia Mitchell finally made a decision.

If Maxwell Peary intended to go through all those documents, there was no way they could leave in just a short while.

In that case, they couldn’t make the Elder keep waiting, could they?

So, she had no choice but to opt out of going to Madgar Pavilion.

"It’s fine, we’ll wait for you."

Silvia Waterborne frowned, not knowing what exactly had happened between them.

"No need, Mom. We’re not going."

Nia Mitchell still refused, and only after saying a few more words did she hang up.

"Uncle."

Nia Mitchell looked up at Maxwell Peary sitting over there.

"We won’t go bother Mom and Evelyn at Madgar Pavilion tonight. Once you’re done, just go straight home."

"Did you discuss that with me? I’m going to Madgar Pavilion."
